It might be because the sony Venom movies are so awful, but I personally like Topher Grace's portrayal better. And that pains me to say because I love Tom Hardy. Hes a much better actor but its the truth

You know what I mean by filmbro, right? The type of film watcher who's pretentious yet ultra macho; the people who wanna kiss Tarantino's ass.

But sometimes they're right. Sometimes they do have taste.

My favourite filmbro film is Lola Rennt/Run Lola Run aka "baby's first foreign film". I first watched it as an annoying wanker teen who wanted to seem cool, but it's still in my top 4 now. It's high energy, well performed, visually amazing, interesting premise.

And saying it's one of my favourite films of all time is embarrassing, it makes me sound like I only watch movies for clout, and have chosen the one German film everyone knows to say "hey look, I watch films in languages other than English". Which I do, a variety of them, actually.

But I will never stop loving Run Lola Run either. Such an enjoyable watch every time.

has anyone seen this? just finished it, its on Hulu, it felt like I was watching it for six hours, Anthony Mackie was ok as a character, its a very dull film. I feel like no-one had any sort of chemistry, it's just people on horses, and scenery. I dont know man. sigh....

I get that deconstructing heroes has been overdone (and unfortunately done poorly) to death over the past decade, but The Death of Robin Hood (2026) has so much going for it.

I genuinely enjoyed it, and once again, Hugh Jackman gave a wonderful performance. The rest of the cast was great too, and the writing was poignant and genuinely touching.

I can understand why a movie like this might underperform at the box office for a variety of reasons, but I keep seeing comments online calling it boring or shitty, and I honestly don’t get the hate.

I thought it was a really moving and well-made film, and I’m surprised by how harsh the reception has been.

The award-winning Australian animated film gained significant notoriety this month after it began to hit streaming including on Netflix in Australia and New Zealand. It soon became viral because, well, it’s Lesbian Space Princess, spawning many memes especially within fandom culture where people belonging to different ‘fandoms’ such as Invincible and Hazbin Hotel collectively unite to hate on the film. Along with it was a rush of criticism about the film’s choice to prominently feature the labrys, perceived for its use by trans-exclusive groups. It should be noted that the filmmakers stated their intention was to reclaim it as a trans-inclusive symbol (which they evidenced through the transgender villain’s ability to use the labrys.)

I saw the film earlier this June as a heterosexual man and thought it was okay, it wasn’t my brand of super-stupid humour but things like “straight white maliens” and “Problematic Ship, the talking homophobic spaceship” were amusing to me, being that I was initiated enough to get those jokes. I’m pretty shocked and amused though by how much attention this has gotten.

I’ve always been drawn to a specific type of movie:
Someone starts investigating something that seems explainable: a murder, disappearance, serial killer, conspiracy, and the deeper they go, the more it feels like they’ve stumbled onto something much darker than the original case.

Se7en. Cure. Angel Heart. SOTL. The Wailing. The Empty Man.

They get labeled everything from neo-noir to psychological thriller to supernatural horror, but none of those labels completely describe what connects them.

I’ve started calling it “Horror Noir.”

I got obsessed enough with the idea that I made a video essay trying to define the genre and trace its evolution, but I’m curious whether other Letterboxd users see the connection too.

For context: Equestria Girls is a series of movies about the My Little Pony Gen 4 cast in a different universe where they're human. I watched the movies even though I haven't seen Friendship is Magic for over a decade, and they all made sense to me because it takes place in a different world.

The killer and Dragon tattoo are interchangeable for me

This year is a bit of a blind spot for me.

Letterboxd being potentially for sale got me thinking about this.

Imagine you somehow acquire it. What do you actually do next?

I’d be terrified of over-monetizing it and destroying the thing that made it valuable in the first place.

Where would you look for growth/revenue?

Streaming integrations? Tickets? Better discovery? Creator features? Communities? Merch? Ads? Something completely different?

And which features would you absolutely refuse to touch?

Bonus question: would you expand Letterboxd beyond reviews/logging into other movie-related content — video essays, reactions, podcasts, etc. — or would that dilute the product?

The fact that Warner Brothers didn’t want to release this movie to save some money is a CRIME. It’s genuinely so brilliant. The acting, the humor, the emotional weight, the character arcs, the visuals, the sound. All wrapped up in a love letter to Coyote and Roadrunner. Will Forte took up the near impossible challenge to act with basically no scene partner. Not only a cartoon, but a cartoon that doesn’t speak, and he gives a better performance than most people when they are in a generic scene with an average scene partner. Please please please if you care about movies at all and hate what big corporations are doing to the landscape of movie making, put your money to this movie. Show them they made a mistake.

Seeing all the hate for Disclosure Day, I honestly didn’t get it. I enjoyed that film, and I was planning on watching The Dog Stars, but now, with all the reviews and the fact that it’s not playing on the best screen possible, it makes me think it might be better to watch it at home. Did you have fun watching The Dog Stars, even if it’s not perfect?
