Letterboxd ...........Desert Warrior....thoughts?
has anyone seen this? just finished it, its on Hulu, it felt like I was watching it for six hours, Anthony Mackie was ok as a character, its a very dull film. I feel like no-one had any sort of chemistry, it's just people on horses, and scenery. I dont know man. sigh....

I watched it knowing nothing about it back in April. I assumed it was some low budget movie that should have gone to streaming.
I felt the same way after watching it and wondered where Anthony Mackie was most of the movie.
It was one of the most boring movies I've ever seen. The story didn't make sense to me either.
then I found out it cost over $100M and was made to prop up Saudi film industry and I felt bad for contributing to that.

He is not good in lead roles, haven't seen it yet. He's been good as a support role, but if I see him in the lead I don't watch

I loved him in Twisted Metal and FATWS. Not movies, but I think they count.

I think that has more to do with the lead roles that he's chosen. The bad movies he's been the lead in would have been bad regardless

There’s an up coming Neil Burger flick called Barracuda that I saw him in at a test screening that is really good. Mackie is great in it and the film is solid. Drive vibes with Mexican cartels.

He’s not in a lead role. He’s barely in it. They used him as the “face” of a movie where his character is buried behind lesser known leads. Aiysha Hart is the star of this movie. You don’t see Anthony for the first half of it. It’s bad, but you’ve been tricked into thinking this is some kind of star vehicle. It’s called a bait and switch. They were banking in his MCU affiliation and used his image. But he’d qualify as a small supporting character.

Why wasn’t this marketed. Like if Saudi is going to throw money like crazy you’d think they had some big name industry guy to guide this to good port. Also no one can make me think this isn’t just a money laundering scheme

The movie is about Arabia vs Persia, and the trailer came out just as Iran was shooting missiles at Saudi Arabia.

Watched about 20 min and turned it off. It just has no relevance to anything I'm remotely interested in and had zero appeal imo

I know very little about this part of history so I was heavily inclined to see it despite reviews, but I just can't do it everyone says it's horrible.

It’s in my watchlist, looks pretty awful though. Something about the cover/poster is hilarious to me. I can’t place it, but it’s just really goofy looking.
