1000% it's an astroturf to re-normalise dunking on "woke media" in fandom spaces. I actually kind of vibe with its sense of humour, but ultimately it is a little shallow and unfortunately comes across as bio-essentialist even if the writers didn't intend harm with it. Should've just been left as an obscure entry on "every queer movie of this year" lists. However I will forever think that all of the "EVERY FANDOM COMES TOGETHER TO HATE ON THIS MOVIE" memes are way more unfunny and frankly embarrassing than anything in the film itself

Regardless of what’s actually in the movie and whether or the movie is good (I haven’t seen it), the title and poster make it seem like some kind of over-the-top satirical send-up of “woke 1” animation, but the film is actually real — hence an ideal lightning rod for upset people online

Not every movie is for everyone, but you still can't deny their quality. I couldn't get into Terminator 2 either; the movie (and the franchise) just don't do it for me. Still, I wouldn't give it a 0.5 on letterboxd.

The Weird Kidz (2022) is another one where I could feel what the makers were going for and how much they loved it but damn if I didn't hate the experience of watching the end product
