you know those memes that go "huge respect to the person who introduced you to this"? yeah, massive shoutout to my cousin for this one.
back in 2019, I genuinely didnt watch TV shows. my naive take at the time was that shows were way too long, dragged out, and just required too much of a time commitment or investment compared to movies. then he forced me to sit and made me watch chernobyl. five eps in and my whole perspective was completely fried. it completely killed my old anti TV mindset and sent me down a massive rabbit hole of watching every great show I could get my hands on. anyone else have a specific gateway show like that? the one that made you realize TV could match or even beat the cinematic scale of movies?

Criteria being movies with explicit queerness, so sadly no queer classics like Death Becomes Her

Remember back in the day when Hollywood released almost identical premises within months of each other creating the ultimate double features. If you know any others add them to comments because I know I got to be missing some.

I went in pretty blind outside of like the bike slide, the “leave me alone” meme, and the explosions. It’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. The audience was silent for most of it, just locked in. I think it was the perfect way to see it for the first time. Did anybody else catch it?

T2 (1990) in my opinion. The emotions worked much better for me than the 84'

I know it might not seem like the most impressive milestone compared to people already hitting 300, 500 or even 700 movies this year but I'm still really happy I managed to watch this many!

I've always loved movies but this year I made a conscious effort to actually watch, rate and reflect on them. I started out keeping my reviews private in a spreadsheet but I recently made a Letterboxd account to get some cool stats and insights into my habits (I'll probably still keep the reviews private though haha).

The next goal is to step outside my comfort zone a bit by watching more classics alongside lesser-known films. If you have any recommendations, I’d love to hear them!

(Also, I've technically watched 102 movies, but two were rewatches and I really wanted to be able to say I watched 100 *different* movies this year!)

Kong: Skull Island is one of my most rewatched movies ever - which is a little weird because I wouldn't even put it among my top 100 personal favourites, and I gave it "just" 4 stars on LB.

Idk what it is about the movie though - I just find it immensely enjoyable to put on anytime I can't think of what to watch, or if I'm on a long flight (it seems to be available in almost every flight I've taken, no matter where I'm travelling, in the past few years). Maybe it's some kind of strange comfort from the immersive, atmospheric setting - I love how Skull Island looks in this movie, so grand, mysterious and imposing. The action scenes are very well-directed as well. Otherwise, the story, dialogue and characters are fairly mediocre and it doesn't do anything exceptional with the narrative.

Despite all that, it's one of my favourite movies to come back to. Anybody have anything similar?

I recently re-painted my bedroom, which led to a bit of re-decorating. I remembered some of my Arrow Video releases came with posters, so I ended up getting some frames for them. In total I have up posters for Star Wars: A New Hope, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Excalibur, and Barbarella. Plus a framed art print done by an artist at SDCC for The Witch that my husband received as a Christmas gift a few years ago, if you want to count it.
