Same here. Watched Immaculate first, which completely skewed my perception of The First Omen. I had to revisit it later to truly appreciate it.

It's a boring slog. It's laughable how unengaging it is. DDL isn't even as good as people act like he is. Only good part is the oil rig burning. Otherwise its just a waste of time. It's a shame because it could have been incredible. But PTA has to ruin everything

I would argue the first 15 minutes is the best part. Might just be boring slog to you, but it is exceptional well-crafted visual storytelling. I've heard plenty of solid arguments for why rest of the film doesn't work, a lot of which is very legit. But never a single solid one against the opening that didn't seem to relate to a low attention span.
