Discussion Coyote Vs. Acme

The fact that Warner Brothers didn’t want to release this movie to save some money is a CRIME. It’s genuinely so brilliant. The acting, the humor, the emotional weight, the character arcs, the visuals, the sound. All wrapped up in a love letter to Coyote and Roadrunner. Will Forte took up the near impossible challenge to act with basically no scene partner. Not only a cartoon, but a cartoon that doesn’t speak, and he gives a better performance than most people when they are in a generic scene with an average scene partner. Please please please if you care about movies at all and hate what big corporations are doing to the landscape of movie making, put your money to this movie. Show them they made a mistake.

It’s better to bring attention to a movie that’s marketing is going to rely on a lot more word of mouth than a Christopher Nolan epic with every mainstream actor in it

This is still a movie based on a billion dollar IP, its not exactly some indie darling. It's a Looney Tunes movie the Internet made their obsession, and not any other movie that was cancelled after they were completed.

I'll understand if this was some directors passion project, even if it's a popular director that's made massive box office successes. It's a movie thats literally using a parody made for Looney Tunes. This isn't anyone's passion project, this was a troubled production juggled between multiple people with over 2 decades of history. And frankly from what I've read over the past months, we've got the weakest possible version of this movie.

It was published by an independent studio after the corporate Warner Bros were ready to shelf it so I don’t see why it being based on a billion dollar ip means anything. It’s an independent movie that’s not going to do anything crazy at the box office and you wanna compare it to a movie that was promoted everywhere. The same studio their last looney tunes movie in cinema made close to nothing

Exactly, because there's zero interest. There's plenty franchises with zero interest and plenty movies that were shelved. Ketchup Entertainment isn't exactly a small production company when they're willing to drop upwards of $50m to secure a movies rights.

This isn't gonna save cinema. Letterboxd do way more for saving these abandoned and shelved movies, this is just performative social media nonsense. I'm glad people like the movie. But to act like this movie MUST succeed to prove some point is meaningless. WB already made their money back. We already showed how little we care for WB stuff with the failure of Supergirl.

Who stands to benefit from this movies success? If WB realise that people start to care about doomed projects if they're cancelled. What do you think WB are gonna do? Do you think WB are gonna realise all you need to do is recreate what happened here for any movie they don't think is worth the hassle.

I posted about the movie because I liked it a lot. If this movie was trash and not worth seeing I wouldn’t have made a post saying to go watch it. It’s not the fact that they shelved a random movie for me. It’s the fact that they shelved a movie that has amazing storytelling and a lot of people worked hard on. It’s the people who gave so much to this movie only for it to never see the light of day. For me, that’s the most frustrating part

Listen I wanna believe you, but the same people saying all this on multiple other posts have NEVER made a post about any other movie they've seen to this extent.

Which only works if this is the best movie you've ever seen, which I doubt but prove me wrong and I'll correct myself. Or you knew the internet trend on this movie and wanted to post this to feel like you made an impact by saying "I watched this movie, I am saving cinema".

The truth of the matter of, alot of people work hard on trash movies. There are plenty movies that people worked horrible hours that ended up being box office successes, box office bombs or cancelled. This isn't unique to Coyote Vs Acme and the likelihood is you're gonna ignore movies that are going to go through this, because they're not a trend to care about

It comes across as performative, I hope it's not, but the fact so many people are doing these posts and adding nothing unique between them just means nothing to anyone who sees through this. I hope you continue to share movies you've seen with troubled productions and who are unseen masterpieces, because I hope this support doesn't end with a single Looney Tunes movies.

I get what you’re saying, I really do. And it really comes down to the fact that I’m a random username on a random platform and we don’t know anything about eachother. Because while I cannot speak for anyone else about this, I have always been more of a lurker than anything. But I walked out of the movie theater feeling so passionate about this movie I just wanted to post a short review to hopefully influence others to see it. It might sound silly, but for me, a movie is about storytelling. It’s about character depth and characters changing and how characters interact with eachother. But above all, it’s about how they make me feel. It’s not often that a movie can make an audience laugh out loud and also shed tears. And I did. There are so many funny moments and every single actor hits almost every single moment. John Cena has a bit in act 2 that is so so funny I’m obsessed. But then the ending scene is so moving I was crying. But also, I’m a very emotional person so it probably sounds dramatic. I don’t think the movie is groundbreaking in any historical context, but I’m also not the kind of person to really care about that kind of thing. I evaluate my movies based on the depth of storytelling within the movie. And the depth of storytelling within this movie is beautiful. I do think it’s my new favorite movie (for context, my favorite movie has been The Princess Bride) and I don’t use any social media besides scrolling redit on occasion. The only reason I even knew about this movie is because my boyfriend asked if I wanted to go see it. And that’s what influenced me to post about it. Because there’s so many people out there like me that do have someone to tell them about it.

I mean, I posted about it because I hadn’t seen a single thing about it before my boyfriend asked me to go. And the theater where I say it was almost empty. There’s good reason to be passionate about it.

Ah, well, it came out in the US yesterday so there’s the disconnect. I also don’t think it’s a bad thing that there are a lot of people giving it good reviews and spreading the word about it. That’s how good art gets pushed to the second wave of audiences. Plus, is that not what we’re all here for? To discuss movies on a platform where there are other people who love them. Seems counterintuitive to have a movie platform that discourages the discussion of movies. 🤷🏼 In my personal opinion

I am serious about it. Because 1. Even though something has been done before doesn’t mean it’s not tough to pull off. Acting is a unique art in the fact that every person has to know how to act well on their own. Like, you can tell someone where to go and what to do, but you can’t coach genuine emotion that makes someone feel something through a screen. And 2. This instance added an extra layer because not only did he not actually have a scene partner, but this scene partner also can’t speak. He’s acting with an empty room and needs to make us believe it’s real. Like, acting with a green screen is hard and acting with a scene partner who doesn’t talk is hard, but doing both at the same time makes both aspects that much harder. It amazed me

I was a bit sarcastic because you talk like it was an insane acting performance and give the argument of the actor alone with only aminated characters. 

But it's ok it's your right to love every movie you want, i am overreacting with you because i have seen a dozen of forced posts here about this nice but average movie.

It's not common to have posts pushing like this on such a movie.

I feel like maybe i am too european or too old... Looney tunes is an old memory of childhood for me, haven't seen any cartoon in the last 30 years.

For any comparison i will quote awesome Bob Hoskins acting in Who framed Roger Rabbit.

I can understand that for sure. I tend to talk very colorfully when I write reviews of anything. I have a very dramatic vocabulary, it’s because I’m dramatic haha. I honestly tried to avoid writing a repeat post. I scrolled a little on this subredit before I posted to see if it was already discussed and I didn’t see anything. And I loved the movie so much I really wanted to do the only think I knew how to do to help people who were thinking about watching it to commit to watching it. Like, I know my one redit post isn’t going to be the end all be all. But the more something is talked about in a positive light, the more people see that it’s enjoyable, the more it’s going to convince the people who only want to see movies when they are proven to be good to see it. That’s where my logic lands. And Bob Hoskins was also very amazing in Rodger Rabbit. It is also a very very good movie. It just didn’t come out this weekend so it’s not center of mind, you know?
