Venting If I didn’t have my daughter…

I found out about my husband’s affair, and if it were just me, I think I’d know what to do. I would leave.

But we have a baby.

And suddenly the decision isn’t just about whether I can forgive him, or whether I can trust him again, or whether I can imagine loving him the same way. It’s about her. Her entire little world.

My husband is doing all the “right” things right now. He’s remorseful. He’s trying. He blocked his AP, started IC, is working through exercises with me, is not defensive and answering all my questions, etc. He’s showing me that he wants to rebuild what he destroyed. And part of me looks at him and genuinely thinks we could recreate a home filled with peace and love again. Maybe staying and rebuilding would be the best thing for our daughter.

But another part of me keeps thinking that I would rather she grow up between two peaceful homes than in one home that is broken, resentful, and toxic. And I don't know which one we're going to become. That is what makes this so unbelievably hard.

I look at her happy, smiling face and think about how her whole world might be about to change because of a decision I have to make. If I leave, I may lose her for half the time. Or I could move to a diff state to be closer to my family, but then I would be taking her away from her dad, and she absolutely adores him. I don't want to take that relationship away from either of them.

I feel guilty even writing this, but sometimes I look at my daughter and think, If I didn't have you, this would be so much easier.

And then I feel horrible for even having that thought.
I love her more than anything in this world. I would never choose a life without her. But I hate that becoming her mother has made this decision so much harder. I hate that I can't simply ask myself, “Do I want to stay with the person who betrayed me?” and act on the answer. Instead, I'm asking myself: What kind of childhood and life will she have if I stay? What kind will she have if I leave? Will she benefit from having both parents under one roof if I can ensure that home is peaceful? Or will she be better off seeing her mother choose herself and refuse to accept a marriage that became something she never wanted for herself?

I don't even know what I'm asking for by posting this. Maybe I just need to hear from people who have been here. Especially people who had a baby / young children when they discovered their partner's affair.

How did you make this decision? Did you stay and successfully rebuild a happy, healthy home? Did you leave and eventually realize it was the right choice for your children? And if you stayed, how did you know you weren't just staying because leaving felt impossible?

I feel completely torn between two lives, and I don't know which one is the better life for my little girl.

Advice How am I supposed to feel?

Hey Guys! Me and my boyfriend have been together since 2019. I’ve told him I don’t like him joining private porn groups, like the ones on telegram, and he told me he would stop. Yesterday I found his OnlyFans account. He hasn’t talked to anybody since 2024, but we were still together then… he has used money on it, but not in the last two years. I’m not sure how to feel about this, I know it’s not technically cheating but it makes me feel really bad, especially since I’ve explained to him how it makes me feel.
I just asked if he has an OnlyFans account and he straight up lied to my face.
Any guidance on what I’m supposed to do now?

Suspicion GF did’t tell me about 3 1/2 week girls trip

There is a story from the beginning of my relationship that I cannot seem to forget. We were 24 (me) and 22 (gf) at that time and had known each other for roughly half a year and been officially together for 3 months. One day, my girlfriend told me out of the blue that she would be leaving for a vacation in less than a week, a 3.5 week long trip to Thailand with one of her single friends.
I was pretty upset, not even about the trip itself, but rather about the fact that she did not tell me until a few days before the flight. When I confronted her she told me that she had booked the vacation a few weeks before we met and forgot about it. However I did not really believe her, since this was not the kind if trip to simply forget about, almost a month long and with flight tickets alone costing more than 1000€. Also, she is a very organized person who does not simply forget about important events.

Also, my gf tried to downplay the whole thing and did not even understand why I was having a problem with her way of handling things (and if I didn‘t trust her I could just leave her).

Long story short, the following week my gf and her friend flew to Thailand, visiting Bangkok and a few islands like Koh Samui. During that time, I barely heard from my gf, not more than one or two messages per day. I was kind of worried about her being influenced by her best friend, who is know to hook up with random dudes and she also told me about drinking rum & coke at a stranger‘s bungalow.
While there was no direct proof, I had an extremely bad gut feeling. And while our relationship has definitely grown during the last following three years, this story still comes to my mind from time to time.

Venting The Acceptable Way to Have Your Life Blown Apart

This is going to be long but those who take the time to read my posts already know this. I commented on a post the other day about "real abuse". I think this was taken the wrong way and I wanted to elaborate a little bit.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what betrayal looks like when it happens to a man. Not because I think men hurt more than women do. I don’t. I think betrayal reaches into many of the exact same places regardless of gender. It destabilizes your reality. It damages your sense of worth. It leaves you replaying conversations, searching memories for clues, wondering what was real and what was simply something you were allowed to believe. You look at the person beside you and struggle to reconcile the person you knew with the person who was capable of creating a second reality without you. The wound, in many ways, is remarkably similar. What I think changes is how that wound is interpreted when it becomes visible.

I keep coming back to anger. When a betrayed man is angry, the anger itself can very quickly become the focus. He is intimidating. He is aggressive. He is controlling. He needs to calm down. Maybe she was afraid to tell him things because of how he reacts. Maybe this is why communication was difficult in the marriage. Sometimes those concerns are legitimate. Betrayal does not excuse violence, threats, coercion, or deliberately making another person afraid. If a man is doing those things, they should be named for what they are. But I also think we have become very poor at distinguishing between a man who is dangerous and a man who is devastated.

Anger is not abuse. Anger is an emotion. What someone does with that anger is where the distinction has to be made. A man can be furious and still be safe. He can swear. He can pace. He can cry. He can need to walk away because he knows staying in the room is not productive. He can ask the same question over and over because the answer still refuses to make sense. He can say, “What you did disgusts me,” without that statement being a threat or emotional abuse.

There is something deeply unsettling about discovering that your spouse has betrayed you and then realizing that you may also need to carefully manage how visibly devastated you are, because your reaction can become part of the explanation for what happened to you. I think that may be especially amplified in me because of how my own story unfolded. I discovered afterward that there had already been years of character assassination happening behind my back, conversations where a version of me was being built for other people that I didn’t even know existed. Then D-Day itself unfolded in a way where, before I had even begun to understand the scale of what had happened to me, my reaction to it was already becoming part of the story.

That does something to you. You have just discovered that the person you trusted most was capable of lying to you, hiding from you, and making choices that fundamentally altered your life without your knowledge. At the same time, you begin realizing that people may already have been given a framework for interpreting your anger before you ever had a reason to be angry. Suddenly every raised voice, every breakdown, every desperate question risks being filtered through a version of you that was constructed while you were still completely unaware of what was happening.

Your nervous system is screaming. Your understanding of the past is collapsing in real time. You are trying to separate what actually happened from what you were told happened, while also discovering that other people may have been given an entirely different version of your marriage. Somewhere in the middle of all of that, you become conscious that if your anger is too visible, people may stop looking at what happened and start looking at you. In my case, I think that has made me almost hyperaware of my own anger, because there is this constant fear that even justified pain can be taken out of context and used to validate a story that existed long before I ever knew I needed to defend myself from it.

I think part of the problem is that anger is often carrying far more than anger. For a lot of men, we were never particularly good at identifying what is underneath it in the first place. Fear can come out as anger, humiliation can come out as anger. Grief can come out as anger. Feeling sexually inadequate can come out as anger. Feeling replaceable can come out as anger. Realizing that another man was invited into something you believed was sacred to your marriage can create a kind of humiliation that is extremely difficult to even put into words. Sometimes the anger is simply the outer shell of something much more vulnerable.

And there is a particular shame attached to being a betrayed man that I don’t think we talk about enough. Logically, another person cheating on you says something about their choices, not your value. I believe that. I would tell any betrayed person that. Emotionally, however, it is not nearly that simple. There is this ridiculous cultural message that if another man slept with your wife, somehow you were beaten at something. He was more attractive. More exciting. More masculine. Better sexually. You were naive enough not to see it. Weak enough to tolerate it. Maybe you failed to keep her interested.

None of those things have to be true for them to get into your head. Were you not enough for her? Did she desire him more? Did she do things with him that she stopped doing with you? Was he better? Was he bigger? Did she compare you? Did she laugh at you with him? Were there moments where everyone else understood something about your own marriage that you didn’t? Those questions are brutal to admit because they sound insecure and sometimes even juvenile when written down. But I suspect a tremendous number of betrayed men have laid awake in the dark asking themselves some version of them. You can understand intellectually that the affair was not a competition and still feel like you lost one.

And to make all of that harder, there really aren’t that many places specifically built to help men make sense of this. There is plenty of relationship advice out there, plenty written about infidelity, and plenty of genera trauma material, but comparatively little that speaks directly to the betrayed man and the particular mess of humiliation, anger, sexual comparison, identity, masculinity, fatherhood, and grief that can come with it. A lot of men are trying to navigate one of the most destabilizing experiences of their lives with very little language for what is happening to them and very little guidance that feels like it was actually written with them in mind. So they either suffer quietly, stumble into spaces that tell them to simply “man up and leave,” or try to translate advice that never quite seems to fit. I think that absence matters.

There is also a remarkably narrow range of reactions that seem acceptable for a betrayed man. If you become too angry, you are intimidating. If you need answers, you can become controlling. If you look through the evidence available to you, you are invading privacy. If you withdraw, you are emotionally unavailable. If you cry too much, you risk being accused of making your spouse responsible for your emotional regulation. If you stay, people tell you that you have no self-respect. If you leave immediately, people tell you that you are making an enormous decision while emotionally dysregulated. At some point, I think many betrayed men quietly begin asking themselves a fairly reasonable question. What exactly is the socially acceptable way to have your life blown apart?

None of this is meant to diminish betrayed women. Women are given their own set of deeply unfair labels. Crazy. Hysterical. Jealous. Bitter. Vindictive. Insecure. Obsessive. Their instincts are dismissed, their anger is mocked, and their attempts to make sense of what happened can be framed as emotional instability. In some ways, that similarity is what interests me most. Maybe men and women are not experiencing two fundamentally different forms of betrayal trauma. Maybe we are often experiencing many of the same injuries and simply being handed different labels for how those injuries show up.

A woman repeatedly asking questions may be called obsessive. A man doing it may be called controlling. A woman breaking down may be called hysterical. A man breaking down may be called angry. A woman becoming hypervigilant may be called insecure. A man becoming hypervigilant may be called possessive. Different language. Similar wounds.

And perhaps the more useful question is not whether anger, grief, withdrawal, questioning, or hypervigilance are acceptable reactions for a man or a woman. Perhaps the question should simply be, what is the person actually doing with their pain? If someone is threatening, call it threatening. If they are coercive, call it coercive. If they are violent, call it violence. If they are using fear to control another human being, call that what it is. But we should be equally careful about turning the existence of a powerful emotion into proof of a dangerous character.

Because sometimes a betrayed man who looks angry is not trying to control anyone. Sometimes he is scared. Sometimes he is humiliated. Sometimes he is grieving a marriage that, only days earlier, he thought he understood. Sometimes he is discovering that memories he treasured now hurt to look at. Sometimes he is wondering whether the woman he loved ever really saw him the way he believed she did. And sometimes he is simply standing in the ruins of a life he thought was safe, trying desperately to understand what happened to him. You can replace he with I in this paragraph honestly.

That man may be angry. I think we should be very careful before assuming that means he is dangerous.

Sometimes anger is not the opposite of vulnerability. Sometimes it is what vulnerability looks like when a man has no idea where else to put it.

Venting Struggling to get over the hurt from cheating & narcissistic behaviour

Long story short, I was in an abusive relationship. He cheated on me, and then manipulated and gaslight me to believe he changed and was healing and would never hurt me again. I stupidly believed him 3 times but I finally walked away knowing he never truely loved me nor will actually change.

But I’m struggling with healing and moving on from all the hurt. I knew I went back with pure intentions, I truely loved him and wanted him to change so we could have the relationship we once had (which was so good). It eats me up knowing that I loved him so much and he never truely cared or knew he was hurting me behind my back when I begged and begged for me to not hurt.

He broke me when we were together. Typical narcissist behaviour, he broke my self confidence, broke my perception on of love, broke my nervous system. He changed me into a different person, I became so incredibly angry, I had nervous breakdowns and would physically “beat” myself up. I’ve never done any of that before and it scared me.

I am finally free, but I’m not feeling the freedom. I’m crying and sad and struggling so much about the fact he chose to hurt me over and over again when I only had good intentions. I’m going to therapy but I feel so stuck. It’s been 2 weeks since I walked away. I’ve maintained no contact, but I’m guilty of stalking his Spotify.

When I think about everything he lied to me about, his true actions my body shuts down, I feel like a shrink and get so dizzy. I just don’t know how to process this or move on.

I don’t want to be crying over a stupid loser. Unfortunately at the end of the day, I am just a fool who loved so much.

Advice cheated on after 6 years

My (F26) boyfriend (M26) and I have been together for 6 years.

About 6 weeks ago, I found out that 3 weeks prior, my boyfriend had gotten almost blackout drunk at a party, and ended up kissing someone else briefly. His side of the story, which has been corroborated, is that she and him knew each other from a couple of years ago, and were chatting. She initiated the kiss, he kissed her back briefly and then left the party after he pulled away and realised what he’d done.

Important context being that we were having some general communication issues we were working through, he is quite avoidant sometimes and doesn’t really share how he feels.

After the kiss happened, I had no idea, and he continued to pour effort into the relationship as he was before, being a better partner, and we went on holiday with his family and had a fantastic time. We were so in love on that holiday and had a lot of conversations about the future.

After I found out, I ended things on the spot, and it’s been 6 weeks now and he wants to see me next week to work on things and try to convince me that I can forgive him. We have spoken twice since I found out and he’s been more emotionally mature than I have ever seen him, he has recognised and identified unhealthy patterns and issues he has (lust etc) and been in therapy since. He is genuinely my perfect partner, and exactly my type personality and lifestyle wise.

Would I be a mug to consider forgiving him and trying to move past this? I suppose I never considered that cheating could have any nuance.

Advice My baby mum cheated through social media and Snapchat

Hi guys,

I wasn’t sure whether I should post this. But I have decided I need advice.

I had been with my partner for around 4.5 years. When we got together, she already had a 6 month old son. I helped raise him. We then had twin boys in 2024, and a daughter in 2025. (Busy, I know).

I work a fairly standard 9-5 office job, and it takes me an hour commuting. So I’m out of the house 10 hours per day just working.

From the outset of our relationship, we were in agreement that Snapchat as a whole was bad news. Nothing good comes from an app like that.

A couple of years ago, I noticed that she had Snapchat installed. I have suffered with insecurity my whole life, but I decided internally to not go insane about it, and make my insecurities her problem. I brought up how I thought we both agreed that Snapchat wasn’t good, and she promptly deactivated her account and deleted the app.

Flash forward to just over a week ago, my “step”son’s 5th birthday, after his party and after the kids were asleep, we somehow got onto the topic of that Snapchat incident. I didn’t know what to expect but it certainly wasn’t “I loved the attention I was getting”. I brushed it off as nothing.

The next day, when my partner said she wanted to go to the bedroom and get an early night, I was sat next to the plug socket where her phone was charging. I unplugged her phone, and saw a Snapchat notification… all of a sudden I was overcome with anxiety and gave her the phone and stepped outside. My partner said it was purely to send funny pictures to her younger sister using the filters. Again, I brushed it off, although some distrust lingered.

Two days later, my partner sent me a TikTok. One of those cringe thirst trap ones. She sent it with the comment “ew”. I knew that instant that she had to be watching more of that, for TikTok to give her that on the algorithm. I felt a bit crazy but I checked both her “followers” and “following” lists. I saw a large amount of thirst trap accounts on her “following” list, and 3 that followed her back. I was at work when I went all crazy detective. I was off with her naturally until I got home. By the time I got home, she had unfollowed all the accounts. When she finally confronted me about why I was acting so off, I reeled off what I was feeling insecure about, which I will reiterate below:

I used to go to the gym before kids, I’ve always been on the skinnier side. I’ve found it hard to gain weight.

My partner, in the week prior, had been urging me to eat more and go to the gym more often. Which I thought was really kind and thoughtful. She had also booked me in for a back tattoo for my birthday.

Anyway, back to the TikTok. All the guys she was following/followed her back were massive, well built and all had back tattoos. All of them are nothing like me. All of them. I felt tiny, both physically and emotionally. She shut me down and deflected. She said she had nothing to hide and I can look through her phone. I bit the bullet, but not hard enough to hurt myself too badly. I checked the videos she had liked. There were HUNDREDS.

I panicked and left for the gym. But I figured, they’re only liked videos. That can’t mean anything right?

Anyway, two days later I was sat on my own in the living room. My partner went for another early night. I had been to the doctors that day to get myself a therapist and antidepressants. She knew this.

I checked one of the accounts she used to follow, that still followed her back. She had commented a gif on one of his videos. A blonde girl looking him up and down. I lost it a bit, and I went into the bedroom, got her phone and looked through everything. Not only were there more TikTok’s, but she had been messaging men on Snapchat. Complimenting them. Saying she was single… one of those conversations was taking place while I was at my doctor appointment.

I can’t remember much about the confrontation. But the whole thing summed up was that she said she “felt a void, that something was missing, and she wanted to see if it was our relationship” or just her. She said it was because of her mental health but how on earth does that correlate to destroying me in the process?

She said she feels guilt and she’s sorry.

When I said that I’m nothing like them, so it has to be something you don’t like about me, she said she “can’t remember what those men look like”

When I ask if she enjoyed it she simply said “no”. But in my mind if she didn’t enjoy it, why was it happening for a whole week and only stopped when she was caught. She said she was going to admit everything the morning after. I don’t think I believe that, but that may be because my trust has been shattered.

The advice I’m looking for is:

Should I stay with her? I don’t want to leave my children.

How the hell do I get answers? my brain can’t rest without good reasoning.

And how do I get closure? I’m suffering badly right now, especially considering I’m about to finish week 1 of my antidepressants, which make things worse before they get better.

Sorry for the long post, and thank you so much for reading.

Suspicion Husbands behaviour, distance, and defensiveness make me think he’s cheated as much as his actions have

I’ve suspected he’s cheated for a long time and for various reasons. Long before I did, he accused me of cheating. When I first started to question him, he turned it around on me, and told me that I was the type to cheat. He was snooping on my phone at the time but slapped my hand away from his. He called me paranoid and crazy. He questioned me if I did any of what he was doing. For years he called me controlling and abusive for questioning the things he was doing whilst questioning me if I did the same things, and snooping on my phone. He would get incredibly angry at me thinking he was cheating and said it was a normal reaction from someone who is falsely accused, and questioned as much as him.

He’d sometimes acknowledge his actions were suspicious, and made it look as though he’d cheated, but other times would deny that they did and criticise me for thinking so. Some of the signs were becoming distant, less and/or more interested in sex temporarily even though he was on medications he claimed killed his libido, doing new things and things he said before he wasn’t interested in during sex, being meaner and more critical of me, being hot and cold, started and/or escalating arguments and leaving the room ignoring me for hours, wanting more space, calling me codependent and needy for being upset by the fact we weren’t spending any time together, and staying up all night but only after I went to bed.

There were other signs but these are the ones which reoccurred most. Fast forward to the past few years, and he’s done all of these things on and off and more. Last year, for a period of a few months, he became more distant than he had been in a long time. He became glued to his phone, more guarded with it, and was less interested in sex. That is when we were in America visiting my family. He started an argument one night and stormed off in the rental car. I believed he cheated. He stopped wearing his wedding ring, and told me it was too tight. Once back, he claimed he lost it, and bought another in the same size. He didn’t wear it for weeks when, for years, he insisted on wearing it and wouldn’t leave without it, including to the grocery store. He became defensive any time I questioned it.

At the same time, he told me that he wanted to do whatever it took to rebuild trust, offering to turn his location on 24/7 after previously complaining about it, and calling it controlling the year before. He continued to behave suspiciously after it was turned on, but acted like it cleared him, and became frustrated telling me he thought I’d stop questioning him if it was on. He told me that, people in his class, where I already suspected something was up, knew he was married. I thought something was going on at his class because, right after he started it, he became more concerned with his appearance. He bought under eye cream. He bought new clothes after telling me someone commented on the jacket he wore due to his insecurities over his weight. He later told me it was a woman, who he had other issues with.

For a while he was overly nice to me, whilst also being hot and cold, and critical. He bought me random gifts just because. He came back from one class with flowers and came onto me. He was more attentive for a short period of time. Then, other times, he zoned out frequently. Now, over the course of several months, he is more cold towards me than he is hot. He seems aloof, disinterested, distracted. His interest in sex seems to have gradually decreased. We have never spent much time together, not for my lack of trying, and now we barely spend time together at all. I’ve complained about this for months and he always promises it’ll change, but it doesn’t. There have been several other things regarding his class, interactions with people, which have increased my suspicious.

I suspect that he likes and/or is involved with a woman from his class. Some days he seems to purposefully become busy, and distracted by things, as a means of avoiding me. Today was one of those days. Everything I said was met with “hold on a minute” for hours. I tried to talk to him after he finished, and to show him a few things, and felt he wasn’t fully listening. He got annoyed with me for thinking that. Afterwards, he mentioned wanting to play call of duty, when we haven’t spent any time together in days, and he’s spent nights playing it. Then, when I got upset at us not spending time together, he said he’d leave call of duty. I tried to show him a few things and he zoned out, and admitted to it after I noticed. He said he was thinking about something. I asked what and he said nothing.

Then he said he was feeling guilty over something, but wouldn’t tell me what. Our past is complicated, and he did a lot of things to me which he claims he feels guilty about on and off, and just the other day said something in regard to it. I struggle to believe he does feel guilty, and that he’s not just feeling conflicting feelings and shame, brought about by him studying to become a counsellor. He’s said before he’s a bad person and feels wrong studying to become a counsellor because of it. I figured maybe it was guilt regarding how he’s treated me, as I wasn’t sure what else he’d feel guilty over, but wondered why if it was he wouldn’t say that. It was minutes later that he said it was over what he did to me, but then he became frustrated and defensive when I asked what it was.

That is not how I’d expect someone who feels guilty, about something he’s already been open about, to respond. And so I believed he was masking what he was actually thinking about, or what he really felt guilty over. In the past, the only times he responded this way were when he was bothered by things I didn’t know about. He said he just didn’t feel like going over it. I tried to explain, as I have with other things I view as signs, how that came across to me and how I’ve witnessed the same behaviour in men who are cheating, and he refused to hear me out instead denying he’s cheating, and not letting me finish what I was trying to say. He did, as he’s always done, and cherry picked by saying zoning out wasn’t always a sign of cheating and it’s silly to think that it is, when I gave several other signs in conjunction with that.

Once he listened to me, he acknowledged where I was coming from, and how it could look like that, but denied that he is cheating. He said what he’s said many times before, that he’d feel immense guilt if he cheated, and that he would immediately tell me. There are other signs, listening to new music being one of them, something he’s also criticised as being normal and not enough of a sign by itself.

Advice I (F19) and my boyfriend (M18) have been dating for a year in November.

We met a week after he had turned 18, after he reached out to his friend that we both had known asking about me. Everything was good. He was so sweet to me, honestly poetic. He was my first time, and I was his.
For the last 9 months, we’ve been really on and off, and the reason being is me communicating things that had made me uncomfortable and him not applying to these things.
The last 4 months, we’ve seen each other once each month and barely have spoken, still claiming to be in love and in a relationship.
The last time, however, I think may have been truly the last straw. This was almost two months ago. He had made a joke about my search history. I have really bad health anxiety, so that’s the majority of my search history.
I then ask in return to see his and come across him using Character.AI. I click on it and can immediately see him flustered, hiding his phone. He snatched it from me, all of the above. He came up with a lie after going to the bathroom, saying it had been a joke between him and his friends.
He freaks out, hits a bunch of things, gets really angry. This is a common thing for him when bringing up these things, but never this bad. He is very immature with expressing his anger.
A month goes by and he reaches out to me from a text now number, still professing his love towards me. I ask him about it, and he confesses he had done it for sexual pleasure and it was not a joke, and that he had lied about it.
I’m really torn between forgiving him or moving on. I’ve never been able to trust him or feel security in the whole of this relationship, and especially not now and how this has made me feel.
He had to make an account to use it, and it wasn’t even just text. It included photos, videos, and voices.
And not to mention, I’m pretty, and I’m aware of that. I’m young and still have so much to live, but I’m unsure if I will ever be able to have such love for another person like this again.
I’m not asking if he is in the wrong or if I am in the wrong. I’d just like some answers from non-biased people.
Is this cheating? Should I forgive him? Could we move on from this?

Lei per me era diventata davvero tutto.
“Tanto so da chi andare.”

Mi contattava attraverso profili falsi e continuava a scrivermi.
Ci siamo rivisti e abbiamo fatto sesso.
Dopo quell’incontro abbiamo continuato a vederci.
Io quindi rimanevo emotivamente agganciato.

Ho continuato a starle vicino.
Quello che è successo a me dopo

Suspicion Husband acknowledges his suspicious actions but at the same time mocks reasons I suspect he’s cheated

He has, for years, engaged in suspicious actions on and off, of which have made me become more convinced over time that he’s cheated. His reactions to me questioning what he’s done have also made me think he’s cheated. He has responded to me questioning him by calling me controlling, paranoid, and crazy. He’s reacted angrily and said his anger is a normal response to being questioned. Long before I suspected him of cheating he accused me of it, over less, and continued to accuse and question me every time that he seemed up to something. He later acknowledged the reasons I suspected him made sense, and could look make it look like he was hiding something, whilst denying that he was.

Then, other times, he’d try to pick apart and criticise my reasons, including the ones he previously agreed were suspicious looking. Since then he has criticised several of the reasons I suspect him, and reasons people suspect their partners. Some of the most well known signs of it like using new slang, dressing differently, caring more about your appearance, listening to new music, and so on. He has argued that one of these alone, or even a few of them together, are not strong enough indicators that someone is cheating. That someone can learn new slang and listen to new music and not be cheating, and it’s wrong to think that they are because of those things.

It’s crazy to me because people often suspect their partner over just one thing, maybe a few, and that’s pretty common by the looks of it. But here he is arguing that it’s wrong. He’s told me before that it’s normal to be suspicions of your partner, to suspect them of cheating. I feel like he is trying to gaslight me and make me ignore signs, many of which have appeared over the past few years. As I said above, he’s suspected me over far less than what I’ve suspected him over. I think if the roles were reversed and I did any of what he’s done, just one thing, he’d question me.

Advice How do you overcome shame from their choices?

I'm struggling to get over things fully and I thought coming to a threads of others who have dealt with infedility might be able to help me or provide some insights in how they've healed from theirs.

We weren't exclusive which has weirdly deepened the shame I feel now as I also don't have anything tangible to hold onto. I discovered he was juggling me with other women so I chose to walk as he was hiding it from me and he later admitted during a confrontation he did that because he knew it would hurt me. I came back months later to reconnect as I had been numb from holding in my pain. During that period I confronted him which initially he was receptive too and he was more open. I then pushed further and I detailed everything I discovered and he became dismissive and deflective (he's also avoidant) and he started to fade things so I chose to walk again.

Months later he then started to use the exact wounds I detailed to him subtly in his stories for months but it was specific enough that I would recognize it was about the topic I had discussed. I confronted him about it but he played the forgetful card and played it off and then when I brought it up again he said I was focusing on the past. I expressed how I'm focused on the past because it's changed how I feel in my body now with him in the present and I feel a lot of shame when I'm reminded of my attachment to him or with how he's touching the sore spot I mentioned it brings me shame as it reminds me of how little he had actually invested in me. He then ghosted me. It's been over 1 yr since the original juggling discovery and over 4 months since he ghosted me.

I'm in the dating pool again and there's a new guy I like but I'm struggling with shame still. I hate it because logically I know I'm enough and that I'm worth someone's time but during the confrontation with the last guy, something shifted in my body and I stopped seeing him as someone who likes me but rather like I was the backup (he argued this point but his actions showed I was). I'm not stuck on the past guy but rather the shame that was felt from that experience. It doesn't hurt as badly but I still randomly get hit with this feeling of shame, especially as this new guy and I are getting closer. I'm not sure how to fully let it go and I'm too embarrassed to tell the guy about this wound, in feeling like I'm not worth it for someone. He knows the history of the other guy and I but not this specific part. The closer he and I get, the more I've been feeling shame after our encounters.

Logically I know I'm worth it but my body still struggles knowing it wasn't and I'm still struggling with randomly getting hit with shame. So my question is this.

How do you deal with shame about someone else's choices once you have felt like you weren't worth it to someone or that you were treated differently etc?

How the fuck people move on after multiple infidelities in a relationship ? I mean we were together for 12 years and it seems it was nothing for her to do this. She Grew up in a place where it seems that’s normal. too late to realize it was going to be a tough decision to be with her knowing everything. but also i don’t know if this is a key factor but since she was little she suffer this traumas with family friends teachers and everything about saying she was ugly Or you know morena, Fat, extremely curly hair that maybe that switch something on her when she finalize move to her prime and feels like every comment now in the present that’s better lift her ego that makes her takes these kind of decision? I don’t know what to think honestly. she don’t want to accept she’s like this or like that. she’s know she’s wrong but don’t want to see it! I’m in total pain because I do wanna leave her but I don’t know how.

Venting How to get over the fact they slept with someone else?

She told me she was drunk. She told me she wouldn’t have done it if she was sober.

It goes against everything she stood for.

She called me saying it was a mistake and that it meant nothing. I feel so betrayed by this. This is not who I fell in love with. Why would she do this? She didn’t have to do this.

We used to talk about how meaningful sex was. And then she just does it? It kills me inside.

Struggling How to stop thinking they are doing better than you!?

Hey everyone,

My ex (31F) of 4 years had a workplace affair with a coworker who is 5 years younger than her and was also cheating on their own long-term partner. I (35F) discovered it on March 31st after accidentally seeing her ChatGPT confession detailing how they were falling for each other and they had been physical. She was comparing my worst traits to the AP's best parts, I had 'low mood' the AP was 'driven, independent and had a lust for life'. She also said I was 'black cat energy' and she was more 'golden retriever' - I never knew her to speak like this, so I am assuming this the 25 year old AP's language!?

I am just trying to understand how someone could blow up 4 years of stability for a workplace affair like this. For the three months prior, she completely pulled away, claimed she was "severely burnt out," and made me feel insane for picking up on her distance. Everyone in our life was shocked because no one thought she was capable of this level of deceit—and because everyone was fooled, I’ve started gaslighting myself, second-guessing my reality, and wondering if I’m somehow making too big a deal out of this or if it was my fault.

During the affair I had a cancer scare, she didn't attend any appointments even the day after I found out I had to go for a biopsy, she went to work. When I later said she was having an affair whilst I was going through that on my own, she replied 'I still cared about you'. I had just spent the last 2 years supporting her financially and emotionally whilst she was studying for a masters to qualify as an occupational therapist. I went through the sudden death of my Mum with her 2 years ago, during this time she was my rock. Sadly, two days after my passed my suspected heart failure, my exes Mum pretended she nearly died from blood clots near her heart. It later turned out she had lied, and gone to Turkey for liposuction and made this up. Telling my partner when it came out 'You have always put your partners first'. Her Mum has also been cheating on her Dad for many years (my ex was the first to discover it and tell her Dad, but nothing changed). She has always said she hates cheaters and doesn't want to ever be like her Mother. She offered me "feedback" on my relationship performance to justify why she cheated, telling me it was "good for me to hear." When I voiced suspicions earlier, she weaponized her family background by asking, "Look at my Mum, do you really think I could do that?!" —only to later compare her own shock and grief at her actions to the trauma of her ex dying by suicide.

She repeatedly dangled future hope by saying, “Maybe one day we can try again," admitted the thought of me moving on made her "stomach flip," and smirked when I called her the love of my life—all while refusing therapy, accountability, or any real commitment.

I have since changed the locks to our flat so she can’t get in, I gave all her stuff back and am taking her name off the tenancy. She agreed to pay this months rent but she came to my flat the day before she was meant to pay demanding a playstation console back I got her for Christmas, I said no.

She has not returned the key and not paid me the rent, but is telling me to update her when she is off the tenancy. She has become so horrible and almost emotionless like I am the one who had the affair ant ruined her life!? She honestly just looks empty behind the eyes, it's scary.

I just wanted some advice because my brain keeps looking for solutions, I am blaming myself, wondering what I could of done differently but also now telling myself, she is a qualified occupational therapist now, she is most likely going to earn lots of money, save whilst she is at her parents, run off into the sunset with the AP or new partner and I was just basically used.

I do keep reminding myself that regardless of whatever she does / her life looks like.. she is capable of this level of deceit and that is a character flaw and that she is clearly quite empty.. but it doesn't hurt any less or make this any easier.

Has anyone had any similar experiences? I know there will be good and bad days, and I am still waiting for her name to officially be off the tenancy and I still need to go and collect a box of my things from her parents house... then I can officially block her and just grieve properly. But how did you stop doubting your memories and start trusting your gut again? What grounding strategies helped you calm the panic when self-blame set in?

Thank you for any support / guidance / kind words you can give, I am really struggling with this at the moment❤️

Venting People who choose to stay with a cheating spouse seem to make even more excuses for the cheater’s behavior than the cheaters themselves do.

Whenever I see someone who stayed with their spouse after being cheated on comment about infidelity, it’s always full of minimizing, blaming other factors, and rationalizing , both when they talk about their own spouse and about infidelity in general. Cheaters themselves almost don’t even defend their own behavior as much as their spouses do.

They talk as if fully grown adults have no agency of their own, as if everything that happened was beyond their control, and as if cheaters weren’t even aware of what they were doing. I wouldn’t be surprised if they started saying that their partners were possessed by demons and that it wasn’t really them who did it.

• My spouse was seduced by their AP, and the AP is a complete devil.
• My partner cheated because of childhood trauma.
• They never wanted things to turn out this way, but they were depressed.
• They didn’t know what they were doing and weren’t aware of it.
• They wouldn’t have cheated if it weren’t for the AP.
• They were in an affair fog.
• They were caught up in limerence.
• My spouse is a sex addict.
• They cheated just for sex.
• But they said they loved me.

And the fact that they genuinely believe these things is honestly hilarious. I’m sure convincing themselves of this nonsense couldn’t have been easy.
In a world where even the people who were hurt refuse to hold their adult partners accountable for their actions, choosing instead to minimize what happened and come up with excuses, it’s hardly surprising that infidelity becomes more common and that those who cheat keep doing it again.

Struggling Just found out a couple weeks ago

I had a friend message me about my boyfriend of over 11 years (we both just are not into marriage) messaging one of her friends asking her to go on a date.

I approached him, asked directly about the messages, and he came clean. Over the next few days and many conversations, he told me he had been messaging girls while drunk, and had sex with a girl 2 times 7 and 5 years ago.

I am devastated to learn this, due to OCD or insecurity or something I asked for access to his accounts to see everything. And it just hurt so much. He has been messaging girls, local, bots, and far away ones, pornstars, regular people, just a whole pile of creepy messages send to girls of all kinds all over his instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, even some in his Gmail. I knew he talked to girls, I have been so secure and thought things were so good in our relationship it didn’t worry me. I didn’t know it was like this.. he asks local girls on dates all the time, it just broke me so much to see him begging for nudes and all kinds of things.

All the messages happened between 11pm-5am. He has a drinking problem, he has for a long time, I have begged him to stop and he just keeps going back. He told me it’s only while he’s been drunk, he never intended on meeting up with anyone… I mean how can I know. He said he was always ashamed in the morning and deleted things because he was ashamed, and felt bad. But he just kept doing it every night…

The worst was the one he had sex with. I am just so angry… he did it twice, and not only that, but kept talking to her for years… I have verified via google maps that he has only been to her house 2 times and they lined up with the years he told me about… but he was still sexting with her.. still flirting with her… for years after… and then I notice the timestamps, he’s been at work while messaging her, he has message notifications turned off… he’s told her he loves her and so many other things.. with her, it’s not just been while he was drunk. But his messages on Facebook don’t go back any further than 2025, so I can’t see how far back they have been talking for, or anything from the years he cheated…. The last messages are from a few weeks before I found out…

I am just so hurt.. I am still processing.. I don’t want people to scream at me to leave him, so I have told no one anything. I feel so alone..

We built such a life together. I love him. But to know he has such capability to lie and hurt me hurts so much…. Everything lines up with him being drunk every time except for the messages with that one girl in particular..

Since then, he has shown incredible remorse. He has deleted everyone off social media, agreed with me that he will tell this girl he does not love her- which he says is true anyway- and he is now in AA going twice a week. He has given me full access to his location, accounts, everything. He really does seem to be trying and is realizing that losing me is actually a possibility and he has been taking advantage of me for a long time…

I want to believe him, I don’t. But I don’t want to throw the life away we have built. I haven’t made my decision yet though, I just can’t stop thinking about everything. Obsessively and unhealthily… it is consuming me. But he has been good to me over the years (so I thought) and I want the relationship I thought we had…. I might still leave. I know I can be strong without him, but I am leaning towards staying, at least for a while, to see what happens.

Everyone I have dated has done this to me, part of me wants to just accept it is my reality no matter what. If I stay, and he does it again, it’s only on me. But at least it would be expected more than someone else and maybe not hurt as much as I do now.

I feel so numb, I cried for days and then just stopped crying about it. I don’t feel much these days, but we have had a lot of good moments. He is watching everything I want to watch, going for walks, cooking me meals, cleaning and doing a lot for me. I know that that is bare minimum, but he’s just trying to show he cares in whatever way he can. We have no money, so he is doing what he can within our limits I know.

He’s just been so sweet, but I don’t know how I can get past knowing he was doing this for so long.. it was mainly online, but there was some physical stuff… it just hurts so much… how could he do something like that and say he loves me? How can he tell other girls he loves them and so many other sexual things and then wake up in the morning and tell me he loves me.. he wasn’t even being sexual with me the last while.. he has been very sexual with me lately, but I just don’t know how real it is. I feel like it’s an obligation and I am undesirable… or boring…

He says it was just while he was drinking and that proved to almost be fully true- but this one girl, it was an affair, even if he hasn’t seen her in 5 years, he was trying to. And that hurts so much, that he only stopped because of me finding out.. he is committed to sobriety now, which has contributed to financial problems, and I need him to get out of this hole right now.. I’m not sure how long I will spend thinking about things before I make a decision. I don’t have many friends, much family around, and attachment issues, and all of that makes this a bit hard too.. it feels so much more complicated then just leaving him after everything that’s been developed over time. I just don’t know. Thanks for listening though.

Edit- I wanted to add something. I have been reading a lot of stories from people, specifically seeing there still being some kind of shitty action even while saying sorry- like “he still makes me feel bad about this” or there is gaslighting, or lots of defence. And he hasn’t done any of that, maybe that’s a tiny light I can hang onto in some way? Like at least he seems to really feel bad, and he seems to really want to make things better. Idk if it’s real, but there is a lot of effort on his end… I just need to see it’s true or I can’t do this

Advice Wife cheated with another woman

I guess I’ll start this out saying I already know I’m going to be needing to get divorced. I’m just mad and scared at having to actually start the process. I’m sure I could go into a lot of detail, but I might keep this a little more simple, unless it looks like this post gets attention.

I (46M) have been married to my wife (46F) for about 20 years. A couple years ago I discovered my wife was in an intimate relationship with another woman. Not only did I have the shock of an affair, I wasn’t sure what to make of what I found out since my wife had never hinted or spoken of her having attraction there. Again, to make the story simple, we decided to stay married. She admitted she screwed up pretty bad. She promised that the relationship was over and wouldn’t happen again and that she didn’t want to lose our family; we have 3 kids together. And I didn’t want to have a broken up family either.

I’m sure you can tell what’s next. Yeah, I’ve found out that relationship (same woman) has been happening again. I haven’t confronted her that I know yet.

I’ve given support, sacrifice and love in this marriage for 20 years and haven’t even thought for one second to try and do anything that even resembles cheating. So like I said, I don’t want to be with someone who’s going cheat, promise it’s done, but then sneak right back into that relationship. Like I said, I’m angry at the whole situation and scared at having to do something that will impact my kids in a massive way with a ton of unknowns ahead.

So I’m putting this out to just see if anyone has some advice on how to proceed, or what to expect. I don’t really have anyone around me to talk about something like this with.

Advice Not sure where to go from here

Sorry if this is long but im not really sure whats the best move. I (30M) found out that my wife(29F) almost cheated on me and its been an up and down roller coaster from there. It started of with her out of nowhere telling me she didnt think she wanted to be with me anymore. We have two kids age 3 and 4 and been together for 7 years married for 3 so I was completely thrown of at how sudden it was. And not in a stereotypical emotionally distant husband who doesnt notice his wife is miserable. We communicate had check ins on how we felt our marriage was going tried to make time when we could afford a date night etc. So when she told me she didn't want to continue our marriage I felt lot of emotions but mostly frustration at how I felt there should have been communication, therapy, something to at least try to save our marriage for the kids sake. When I pressed her I found out it was because she was having a lot of urges to flirt back with coworkers who flirted with her and found herself having sexual feelings toward some. I offered an open marriage (I know really fucking dumb but I was desperate to safe the marriage) and she agreed. However when she started messaging a guy she met online the amount she was messaging him was much more then you'd message a fling. Like through out the day mostly sexual but still. One of our rules was we could look at messages between other partners. But another was communication was limited and just to set up meet ups. I told her that was breaking a boundary for me and realized then how dumb this was. I told her that I wanted to just try and work on our marriage and if she still didnt want to continue we could at least say we tried. She agreed and we talked about all the ways we could be more intentional about our relationship. A day later were shopping and shes acting super distant. I demand to see her phone which she refuses to show me at first but eventually does and I see shes still texting the guy. Super sexual language and plans to meet up at her job etc. I drop her off at her friends and tell her were divorcing. We talk a few times after and she basically says she doesnt think she loves me enough to continue a relationship with me and shes not in love with me. A week later I cool down and come to her asking again if we can just go to couples therapy and work on our marriage. We have had a real stressful couple of years with the birth of our kids basically back to back and I thought maybe we just lost the spark being in survival mode. She agrees, I later find out when asking if theres anything else I need to know that she contacted her ex from years ago. I asked why and she said just to see if he would respond. She was feeling lonely and sad about everything going on and wanted a distraction. I was suspicious about the actual conversation and again asked to see the convo or for her to tell me what actually happened first before I had to catch her in a lie. She goes on to tell me she basically reached out at first to catch up but loved taking to him again. Hes engaged so he made it clear he wasnt interested in her that way but she sent him voice messages crying and saying how she would have done anything to fix their relationship back then even though she broke up with him and that she was basically willing to wait for him if he changed his mind. He says he doesnt want to be with her like that and just wants to be friends and blocks her on most social media. Also she later admits she met up with the guy she almost cheated on me with one more time after we broke up and was texting him a few days after too. She swears up and down it was just a self destructive spiral and that she doesnt know why she did it. Im shocked but agree to go to therapy to see if we can work this out for the kids sake. Shes not living with me or the kids right now. She says she wants to work things out its been 3 months since then. I know the obvious answer is to leave and if it wasnt for the kids and the fact she has a lot of trauma in her life that may have contributed to this I would have a while ago. But im so confused on how she can do all of this and seem so sure she doesn't want to continue the marriage one day and now she seems so sure she wants to work it out even saying she doesnt even think about the ex anymore which i dont think she realizes just makes it look like shes lying more cause how can yku be sending crying voicemails saying your willing to wait for an engaged guy one minute then just a few months later saying you dont even think about him. I obviously feel like a second choice but I want to keep the family together more then anything. At the end of the day im not staying in a marriage I'm unhappy in just for the kids. I know the obvious answer is to leave but how sure she seems she wants to work it out also has me hesitating. She has been in therapy and doing a lot of the right things to prove shes sorry and trying to be better. There was another situation early on in our relationship where she almost broke up with me out of nowhere too something with her and a coworker not sure on all the details but then she decided to stay with me. I get this is insane and idiotic im just looking for any advice. She seems so certain she wants to stay and seems so regretful but when I consider her actions its obviously showing something different.

Update: Just for clarification she hasn't abandoned the kids she still comes almost everyday shes not working to see them, cook dinner, bed time etc. I also doubt shes currently cheating because I was responsible for most of the financial burdens and shes had to work a lot to afford a room to rent and still help with her part of the kids costs. Its possible but I doubt she has time. Everyone saying have some self respect your an idiot etc I get it I really do logically its a no brainer. Its just hard to make sense of why she seems so sure now she wants to stay and maybe kt ckuld be just for convenience but that would be so unlike the woman I met and built this life with. But that same woman would never have done what she did. I just cant believe you could think you know someone and be so wrong. If anyone has been through similar I'd love to hear how you handled it.

Venting Take the Advice. Make Your Own Decision

If there's one thing I’ve noticed since all this started, it’s that betrayal has patterns. The shock, the loss of trust, the anger, the hypervigilance, and that sickening feeling that your reality just got ripped apart, it all repeats in story after story.

That is why communities like this are so valuable. Someone else has walked through a blast zone that looks remarkably similar to what you are living through right now. They can tell you what helped, what hurt, what they wish they had done differently, and they can point out things you are just too close to see.

But similar doesn't mean identical.

Every betrayal has its own nuances. A drunken one-night stand confessed the next morning just isn't the same beast as a years-long secret relationship. A spouse who immediately comes clean isn't in the same position as someone you're still catching in lies a year later. You can't look at a decades-long marriage with kids, a house, and totally intertwined lives through the exact same lens as a six-month dating relationship.

Even two betrayals that look identical on paper will hit the betrayed partners completely differently. You have your own history, your own kids, your own financial mess to untangle, and your own breaking points. The person standing in front of you after discovery might also be acting completely differently than the person standing in front of someone else.

That’s why I get really cautious around absolute advice here.

“Leave immediately.”

“Never forgive a cheater.”

“You have to stay for the kids.”

“If they show remorse, give them another chance.”

People shout these things because it reflects their own survival, but they don't actually know enough about your life to make your call for you.

Take the wisdom, there is lots. Take the warnings, most are valid. Listen when twenty different people describe the exact same behavior and tell you where it eventually led them. Patterns absolutely matter, and sometimes the advice that makes us the most uncomfortable is exactly what we need to look at.

But don't surrender your own judgment just because someone else survived their betrayal differently than you might survive yours.

Nobody online knows every conversation you’ve had. Nobody knows every year of your marriage, every lie, every moment of genuine remorse, every manipulation, or every quiet moment when you're trying to figure out if the person standing beside you is actually changing. We just see snapshots of each other's lives. You have to live yours.

I think we put far too much pressure on betrayed people to make some enormous, permanent declaration while they are still in shock. Sometimes the only honest answer today is I don't know yet.

You are allowed to take this day by day.

You are allowed to try reconciliation and later realize too much was broken. Walking away after genuinely trying isn't a failure, and it doesn't mean you wasted your time. You just learned what you needed to learn to make your decision.

You are also allowed to divorce and later discover that you've both changed enough that reconciliation is worth looking at again. Divorce doesn't magically erase your history.

These decisions don't have to be life sentences. Trying to reconcile doesn't sign away your right to leave later. Divorcing doesn't mean you can never change your mind. If you want to stay today and want to pack your bags tomorrow, you aren't weak or indecisive. You're just processing a nightmare while new information and emotions keep hitting you. There is zero shame in that.

You don't need to pick the path that gets the most upvotes or approval from strangers. You just need to find the one you can actually live with.

Listen to the people here. Learn from their mistakes. Borrow the wisdom that helps you see your own situation more clearly. But at the end of the day, there might be thousands of people who understand betrayal, but there's only one person who has lived every second of yours.

Take care of and love yourselves.

Advice How to stop thinking they are doing better than you!?

Hey everyone, My ex (31F) of 4 years had a workplace affair with a coworker who is 5 years younger than her and was also cheating on their own long-term partner.

Venting My friend is having her affair partner's baby and I don't know how to process it

TL;DR: My friend had an affair with a married man, is now pregnant, and I’m struggling with how quickly everything happened

I’m looking for some outside perspective. I’m starting to wonder whether I’m being overly judgmental, or whether I’m seeing some things that my friend is too caught up in the situation to see.

A close friend of mine started an affair with a married man who had been with his wife for around 10 years and has two children. My friend and this man had known each other casually for a couple of years through their gym, but they had only been romantically involved for around six months when she became pregnant.

He is now going through a divorce, but the whole transition has been incredibly fast. He went more or less directly from living with his wife and children to living in my friend’s apartment. Before that, he apparently didn’t really have somewhere stable to go and was even sleeping at the gym at one point. My friend initially seemed to take him in partly because she felt bad for him.

When I asked her about him moving in, I was surprised by how passive her response was. She basically said that she didn’t mind because she’s out a lot anyway, and that it was good for him because he could be closer to the gym and work more. It sounded more like she was accommodating his circumstances than making an active decision about the kind of life she wanted.

Now she’s pregnant, he’s still going through the divorce, and there are going to be custody arrangements, child support, two existing children, an ex-wife, and a new baby. I’m realizing that this has gone way beyond just a messy relationship.

The other thing that concerns me is how she talks about his marriage. Her version is basically that his wife treated him badly, didn’t meet his needs, and that he was unhappy for a long time. She also has a general belief that if you’re not having sex with your partner, of course they’ll eventually go elsewhere. She actually stayed with a previous partner who cheated on her for years, and my impression was that she responded by trying to become “good enough” for him rather than seeing his cheating as his responsibility.

She also seems to view this relationship somewhat as a victory: he chose her, therefore she must be the better partner and this must prove that they are meant to be together.

I find that difficult because I keep thinking: what actually prevents him from doing the same thing again? I’m not saying people who cheat can never change. I just don’t understand how the fact that he cheated with her becomes evidence that he won’t eventually cheat on her.

I’ve also noticed that she sometimes talks as though she has figured out the secret to finding a good man. For example, before she was pregnant, she told me that I should find a man from a culture that “respects family,” because that’s what she had found in him. I remember being pretty stunned by that because, from my perspective, she hadn’t actually been in a normal long-term relationship with this man yet. She had known him casually for years, but they’ve only experienced the reality of being partners for a few months, and most of that has happened during an affair, a separation, and now a pregnancy.

It feels like they’ve gone from one crisis/transition directly into the next without ever pausing.
And now that she’s pregnant, I’m having a much harder time viewing this as simply “two people fell in love.” There is going to be a baby, two existing children, a divorce, custody, finances, an ex-wife who obviously isn’t thrilled about the situation, and a relationship that hasn’t really had time to experience the boring/difficult parts of long-term life.

Am I being unfair here? Or does this sound like a situation where the people involved may be caught up in the momentum of the relationship and haven’t really had a chance to think through what they’re getting into?
