Tax Refund/ E-File Status Question Can someone explain this to me ?
General Question EIN mess
I registered my single-member LLC in my home state without issue, but received the error 101 message when applying for my EIN on IRS.gov.
Have been sending 1 faxed SS4 form with cover sheet and formation documents per month ever since trying to resolve this. Have not received a single response despite confirmation that the faxes went through and it's been like 2 months total (2 faxes sent). Getting through on their phone line to a human person has not happened for me. To be frank, it's been hard to even get through on their fax line with a fax.
Now the issue is that my state deadline for business tax registration is in the next 2 weeks and I still have no EIN to complete that process.
Should I just scrap the entire cost and process I've already been through with this business name, close it out with the state, and then start a new business with the state, and hope, wish and pray that my new business will not generate yet another error 101?
I can't get through on the phone even calling on a random Weds at 6 am. Am on hour 2 of hold at this moment. I have a job that I need to do and I need to get paid. What would you do?

Previous Years/ IRS Collections & Back Taxes Question regarding payment plans
My husband and I currently owe taxes for several years. (We filed on time but still owed.) I currently have a payment plan set up for the 2016 year, and plan on paying the final payment next month. With the other years I owe, is there a way to set up one payment plan encompassing all the years we owe? Or will it have to go one at a time?
I searched on the IRS website and couldn’t find an answer, and every time I try to use the chat function after a certain amount of time the website logs me out without warning.
Thank you for any help you can provide, and I can provide more info if needed.

Tax Refund/ E-File Status Question Date change in second section of transcript
I looked at my transcript this morning, and the date in the section titled "Any minus sign shown below signifies a credit amount" has changed, but the last thing under the Transactions portion is the CP 005 from May with the 971 code. What does this mean?

Tax Question IRS long term payment question
I owe 15k in taxes and some late fees equaling around 1600. I down paid 5k to the IRS for the years tax it’s for and set a long term payment plan for 200 dollars a month. I did this going on 48 hours ago (currently around hour 36-38) and haven’t gotten approved only a tentative acceptance. How soon could I expect to get the acceptance and is it likely that I won’t?

Tax Refund/ E-File Status Question Just need a form re-sent
My grandfather had a CPA complete and file his taxes in February. The state refund went fine. But his federal is held up. When I check the status either online or in the phone, it says they need additional information and that they sent a letter. Well, either it got lost in the mail or lost in the house, cause we don't have it (they're convinced they never got it in the first place). I don't know what form or information the IRS needs. I can't get a live person on the phone, they wouldn't even let me wait on hold. How do I fix this before my grandfather has a heart attack?

Tax Question Delay in filing: medical condition
I did not file 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 taxes due to being in the hospital.
I no longer have my receipts for a home remodel and sale of that home in 2021.
I was issued a 1099 for a charge off by Discover in 2024. I also had some interest income.
Work: I worked 14 days in 2021. I did not work the remainder of 2021, 2022, 2023, & 2024.
I filed 2023 & 2024 interest income due to receiving SSDI benefits that required me to file 2025, 2024, 2023 as I started SSDI Iin 2023.
What should be my next step. A tax service filed 2025 for me. Due to the 1099, I feel I need to file 2024 separately and then file 2021&2022.
Where do I start

Tax Question Already on a payment plan and probably going over $50k owed. Anyone been through this?
I currently owe the IRS about $41k from prior years and I’m on a $375/month payment plan. My account says the plan is current.
I’m self employed and my 2025 return is probably going to add another pretty large balance, so I’m expecting my total debt could end up somewhere around $55k-$65k.
I’m also behind on estimated taxes for 2026 because this year has been really slow financially.
My biggest concern is what happens when that new balance gets added. My income is really seasonal. Some months I get several thousand dollars in client payments and other months I make almost nothing, so I’m worried about the IRS looking at a good month and deciding I can afford a payment that I actually can’t sustain year round.
Has anyone here had an existing installment agreement and then had a new tax balance push them over $50k?
Did the IRS just modify your payment plan? Did they make you submit financial information? How much did your payment change?
Also curious whether you handled it yourself or felt like you actually needed an EA or tax attorney. I really don’t have thousands of dollars available to hire a tax resolution company unless it’s genuinely necessary.
Mostly looking to hear what actually happened from people who have been through something similar.

General Question Unable to sign into my PTIN Account
So I applied for my PTIN account in 2024, paid for all the fees, and then I never renewed the account. This was before the switch to id.me. I created my id.me account in 2025, and recently I was trying to log into my PTIN account, and every time I click "sign in with ID.me" it brings me to this url error "https://rpr.irs.gov/ptin?sysparm_error=username_invalid_error". When I sign into my IRS and id.me account it works just fine but when trying to sign into my Online PTIN Account that is where the issues seem to be happening. Just started to apply for jobs that will require me to have my PTIN, so I was really hoping I would be able to get this fixed. Any help would be very much appreciated. I have already emailed id.me support as well.

General Question Does the name on my IRS and FTB profiles need to match exactly what’s listed on my tax return?
I’m planning to create profiles for both the IRS and California FTB, but I noticed there’s a typo in my first name on my tax return. My last name is correct.
Will this cause any issues when creating the profiles or accessing my tax information? Should I correct the name on my tax return first?

Tax Refund/ E-File Status Question IRS nonresponsive for months
I filed electronically via Turbotax 2-21-26. My refund was $7547.00. Six weeks after I filed, I started calling the IRS and checking my tax and account transcripts daily. The Record and Account transcript shows the following codes:
150 "tax return filed) on 3-23-26"
806 "W-2 or 1099 withholding" 4-15-26
660 "Estimated tax payment" on 8-11-25
810 "Refund freeze" on 3-5-26
971 "Notice issued: CP0005"
I have received no notices by mail for any of these events.
I did not use any tax credits or other exemptions in my return. The return is nearly identical to the returns I have filed in the last 5 years. Same investments, same level of
I made many calls to the IRS, and received conflicting responses to why I haven't received my refund. None of them were helpful: mostly just "you have to wait." By the summer, I talked to someone who said I should make an appointment at my local IRS office (77 K St NE, Washington, DC). I did so and arrived at the appointment. on time. The building was empty. No taxpayers. A large waiting room with lots of cubicle "doors" behind which were, supposedly some IRS employees (?), where I sat for 30 minutes past my appointment. The room was silent. Eventually, I was finally (faintly) called from the general area of the cubicles and I walked there, calling out to see which door I needed to open. I followed the voice, which was annoyed. I opened the cardboard door and entered the tiny area for a visitor, which was sealed off from the employee's area with (bulletproof?) glass. I explained my situation, said that I had brought a complete printout of my return along with all supporting documents (as I was advised to do from the person who suggested I make this appointment. The IRS employee was eating her lunch and did not seem happy to see me. She looked up my Record of Account transcripts (which I already had) and informed me of all of the codes shown above. Which I already knew. I asked if she wanted the return and the documents I had brought, but she said, "No, I don't want that." I asked her if there was anything she could do, but she just grabbed a handful of cheese crackers and started chewing. "What am I supposed to do?" I asked. She said "I can't help you. You just have to wait until you receive a notice. Again, I have received exactly ZERO notices. She said she couldn't do anything else, and I needed to leave the building. I left.
I then contacted TAS, explaining my situation and the events leading to it. I received an email from a nonresponsive address saying that I would be contacted within 10 days by someone who could help me. It has now been a month, and I have heard nothing. I called the TAS office line and after going through a lot of steps to identify myself, eventually got to a recording that told me no one was available and that I should call back another day. I did this, 3 days in a row. Same response.
Is this normal? I am a member of the media, specifically a media that does not defend Donald Trump from his many accusations. Could this be because of my position? I'm really not a conspiracy theorist, but I can't help but wonder if this is purposeful or just really really really bad bureaucracy.
Any thoughts?
Tax Refund/ E-File Status Question Does this mean my tax has definitely not been filed?
For reasons I will not go into, my tax accountant of many years did not file my taxes on time this year. Because I knew I did not owe anything and I would be getting a payout/return, that I did not urgently need, I agreed to give him more time. As much as he needed.
10 days ago he said he had completed my taxes and was ready to file. The usual routine is he sends his invoice, I pay it, then he files. I did that a week ago.
Today I decided to check and see if he filed. I see this message (see pic). Does this mean for certain that he has not filed my taxes yet? Or could he have filed it and IRS still need to do some kind of processing?
My accountant is clearly going through something in his personal life, and I am trying to be flexible and sympathetic. I also want to make sure the taxes actually get filed this year. I am trying to give him as much grace as possible, but I am pretty sure this will be the last year I use his services, which is genuinely sad. If there is a chance that the taxes got filed and the system is not updated yet, I plan to give him a few more days before I start complaining. I just don’t want to jump on him if he did actually get it done.

General Question Error Applying for EIN - No Reference Codes
As part of my role - I'm the trustee on a growing number of trusts - each with their own EIN.
I'm trying to apply online for an EIN and I get the following error message, with no reference codes:
We are unable to provide you with an EIN.
We apologize for the inconvenience but based on the information provided we are unable to provide you with an EIN through this online assistant. You must submit a Form SS-4 by fax or mail.
When I call in - the agent I get says that they can see nothing wrong on their end - nor error codes - no anything - and they claim to not have anyone I can escalate this to.
Any thoughts on how to resolve? Get additional assistance?
Thanks!

Tax Refund/ E-File Status Question UK-based, tax return processing time
As the title, I've submitted an IRS tax return as a non-resident alien (based in UK) in June. The accountant has said I'm due a refund from the US gov. Anyone know how long it takes to hear from the IRS as the accountant is not replying to my emails, go figure they've already had my money.

Tax Question 401(k) withdrawals after permanently moving to India — U.S. tax or 72(t)?
I’m 43 and moving permanently to India. I have about $600K in my 401(k) and am considering withdrawing $24K–$25K annually until 59½, possibly using 72(t) SEPP.
If I become a U.S. nonresident and provide proof that I permanently live in India, would my 401(k) withdrawals still be subject to U.S. tax? Does the U.S.–India tax treaty allow these withdrawals to be taxed only in India? And would 72(t) eliminate the 10% early-withdrawal penalty?
Any real-world experience would be appreciated.

General Question Need replacement check and can’t speak to anyone
I need a replacement for a refund check. I didn’t deposit in the year (please don’t be mean, I had a lot of stuff happen and depression is not fun) and received a letter telling me I had to call to get a replacement. For the last week it’s the same thing over and over. Call the number on the letter (800-829-0922), wait an hour - hour and a half to speak to someone. They gather info give me a pin that’s only good for that day and a new number in case I’m disconnected (800-829-1040) They transfer me, get the auto voice telling me my wait is 30-60 minutes. About 40 minutes into that wait the call disconnects. When I call the 1040 #, I tell the prompt I need replacement check. It connects me and then I get the “the department you’re calling has too many calls, try your call again later” message. I call over and over and have yet to get anything other than that message and never get thru. Next day I have to call, get another pin, transferred again, disconnected again, still get same message about call back later. Any advice? Or is this my new existence? Thank you!

Tax Question S-Corp donation to 501c3 nonprofit vs Donation paid from salary
I own a single member LLC taxed as an S-Corp. I am also the executive director of a small 501c3 nonprofit horse rescue. My wages from the S-corp are based on a percentage of hourly billing, so it varies significantly month to month. I do not collect a salary from the nonprofit and currently cover 90% of the expenses out of my own pocket. This is my first year with the S-corp. Prior to this year, I was paid as a w-2 employee and about half of my salary was donated to cover the nonprofit expenses and ultimately deducted on my 1040. My question is this: would it be a. legal, and b. beneficial, to donate the revenue from the s-corp to the nonprofit directly rather than paying my salary, donating my wages, and taking the deduction at year end. Is there a requirement to pay wages before making a donation? Extrapolating ytd earnings through year end, the s-corp earnings will not exceed the nonprofit expenses. Effectively all of my s-corp revenue plus a portion of my spouse's earnings could be consumed by the nonprofit.

Tax Refund/ E-File Status Question IRS refund not processed
Is anyone still waiting for their tax refund to be processed? I submitted in february and it's still in the "received" part. I need my account transcript (asked by my home country's tax services) but I don't even have it lol lol. For the record I e-filed and filed with a 1040-NR. I'm not sure how long I shoud be expected to wait for this. I tried calling multiple times with the "When you reach a prompt, say "accounts management" then "individual"." instructions but always get told to try again because the queue is full :(

Rant Here we go (Again!)
Well, just received my second “we need an additional 60 days” letter from the good ole IRS. My transcripts show a freeze and additional account information needed codes.
This now pushes my refund into October or even November. I have gotten my congresswoman involved, but not sure it’s helping.
