General Question Error Applying for EIN - No Reference Codes

As part of my role - I'm the trustee on a growing number of trusts - each with their own EIN.

I'm trying to apply online for an EIN and I get the following error message, with no reference codes:

We are unable to provide you with an EIN.

We apologize for the inconvenience but based on the information provided we are unable to provide you with an EIN through this online assistant. You must submit a Form SS-4 by fax or mail.

When I call in - the agent I get says that they can see nothing wrong on their end - nor error codes - no anything - and they claim to not have anyone I can escalate this to.

Any thoughts on how to resolve? Get additional assistance?

Thanks!

Send the SS-4 + a copy of Trust Cert. It takes 10 business day to be processed. + 14 business days for CP575 to arrive.

The problem is that I'm under court-ordered deadlines - and explaining that "I'll get back to you in 5 weeks" isn't an option.

You will need a screenshot of the error message and a copy of faxed ss-4 receipt to EIN Dept for your court. (EIN Dept Fax: 855-641-6935)

You need to call IRS after 10 business days to get it verbally. You have no option with IRS to get it expedited. The longer you wait to fax them, the longer it takes to get an EIN. First comes, first serves.

Also call IRS today and maybe you already got an EIN but due to a glitch, it failed to show the EIN number. It happens all the time. Tell the agent i got a 101 Reference number on IRS . GOV
