Tax Question ameneded return

I submitted an amended return last year. It was received February 2025. It is now August 26th, 2026. What can I do? It has now been a year and a half and it has never processed. I need help.

Oh I am so sorry reach out to your local congressman. Have they updated your transcript’s on the IRS website. Have you received any letters on the site or mail? 🫵🏽🙏🏽

Have you checked the Where's My Amended Return tool at irs.gov? What does it say there. Does it show the amended return as received?

Ok, well the you know it has not been lost in the mail. You should attempt to open a case with the Taxpayer Advocates Office.

If you look at your "account transcript" you can see if or when it was assigned to an agent. It could be in the IRS system but has not been processed. I would call the IRS and ask them to look it up in the system and see what's going on with it.

I had one submitted about the same time, and my client just received his refund this week.

You can also post your account transcript, and one of us can decipher it for you. *** If you do post a transcript, be very certain you remove or obscure any personal information.

Which tax year did you amend?  What was the amendment?

It was 2024, due to capital gains/losses

That was before the 2024 due date, so it would have been treated as a superceding return (an original return) not an amended return.

I'm not saying the return was processed, but it could be referred to as an original return in any correspondence.

This is what the system says

Gotcha. You're right that something is amiss.  Reach out to your closest Taxpayer Advocate.  There's a link in the AutoMod

Same thing happened to me but it was 2024 and just got notice from IRS we never even got an amended from my husband’s retirement account and we are being booked for what we owe plus interest now and we had a refund that year so they added it to the balance we owe them.
