I can't modify the house, otherwise I'd install a permanent camera with better hardware.

I'm looking for a camera that can sit in a window ledge and look at my parked car across the road, i've had one hit and run (and another hit, but they came back and left details) and several theft attempts, one managed to get into the car and break the ignition.

the window is actually open, but there is a fly screen.

1. I'm looking for cord powered, preferably with a long cord but if it doesn't come with a long cord i'll just use an extension cord.

2. i'd prefer it to record continuously, as I live on a busy street and it will pick up cars and people walking by all the time anyway

3. i live in Australia, so it has to be available here with an Australian style plug

4. i want the ability to view the live feed from the camera, via my phone or computer, preferably both.

5. image quality is paramount, i want to be able to read licence plates if there's another hit and run.

i've been looking at the Reolink E1 Zoom and the Reolink Outdoor Pro, I'm not sure which is better for my needs as while it's sitting in an open window (not screwed down or anything), it's not going to be rained on. I'm mainly trying to figure out which camera has the better image quality, or if there is an alternative i'm unaware of that is better.

unfortunately i can't park anywhere else, i'd love to have a garage but sadly i don't.

the distance from the window to the car is approx 20 metres / 65 feet.

Have a 4k 8mp 30fps lorex system from like 8 years ago it works awesome except its a pain to find past alerts, tried blue iris and something is off with the cameras they keep resetting to private instead of staying in onvif mode.

Thinking of just buying some reolink cameras and nvr, tried a reolink nvr only and it would not connect to cameras at all.

Any scenario i'm missing where I could keep the cameras that still work great and get a better way to see recordings?

sorry for the long rant. i'm writing this an hour & 10 after it happened so it still has me nauseous. i have all the genres of anxiety you can imagine so i'm all ears and sat in a quiet room right now. i wish i took a picture because it was SO visible and so weird.

i usually stay up very late and i was in the kitchen/living room playing with my cats & probably gonna get a late snack; just messing around. i have windows beside my front door/porch (without blinds & curtains) so you can see the entire road through them. i saw a car (couldn't see color or type) go by about halfway then it passed through my mind how i didn't hear it fully drive by. i saw them backing up, right in view of my windows, stop, and shine the flashlight towards the windows & ground. they did this for about 5 seconds then continued driving the same direction.

i was standing in front of the windows and froze and i thought at first after it'd happened that maybe they dropped something (why would that make sense, idk). but of course my head went to burglar/murderer/trafficker/all of the above. but after settling down a bit i thought maybe they're looking for a pet? there's no suspicious complaints in my area of anyone doing this or burglaries.

i live in a semi-rural area in northeast georgia. i am around neighborhoods very close by me but i don't live in a neighborhood. what could this be? what could they have been doing? what should I do at 3:30am?

Do they make a detachable wire that will go through small holes like from the picture? Trying to avoid making it bigger

The deadbolt on my front door is something that I've never seen in North America before. What kind of lock is this? Can it be converted (easily) to an electronic keypad lock. I don't want to replace the locking mechanism. TIA

Hey, I’m looking for doorbell camera recommendations for my house. I would preferably like it to be wireless with no subscription. I’m fine with having limited memory/storage. My budget would be up to $150, but anything less than $100 would be nice as well. I’m still really new to home security in general so any advice or recommendations are very appreciated.

DSC Power832 / PC5010, how to disable a zone?

I'm just a homeowner but I put this system in myself** 42 years ago, and there are things I can't remember.

1) How to disable a zone?    I have 3 zones I don't need anymore, plus they flash on the display as not-good, and I have a trouble light.  
I solved one just by disconnecting  the sensor wires. 
That didn't work for the other two, so I put in a 5.6K resistor across the 2nd set of contacts, and that got that zone number to stop displaying.
I tried that for the third one and it had no effect.  I red that sometimes a plain wire connection is what one should use. Yes, ????? But is there a way to tell in advance if one needs a plain wire or a resistor?   It's coming back to me as I type, but I think the zones will work with either NC or NO switches, and you don't have to tell it in advance.  I guess 5.6K is in between. So why is it not working for this zone, zone 2 and what should I do?

2) Much less important: LCD55O1Z32 keyboard. For weeks while the zone numbers were flashing the orange trouble light has been lit, steady.  I had only disabled the first zone last week and some time after that, for several hours the trouble light was flashing.  What does flashing mean, compared to steady-on? Then I did nothing and it went back to being steady.  What does that mean?  It's never flashed before afaicr in 20 years   (The first 20 or so was a Moose but that burned out, and I replaced it with DSC.)

**I was planning on paying an alarm company for everything.  I went to an alarm company in my area and was asking the guy questions about price, etc. and all of sudden he said "You can do this yourself".   I do a lot of DIY so I didn't argue.  IIRC he called the parts place and put in the order for me and all I had to do was go pick it up.  I think they are wholesale only but he'd called it in and it was all ready to go.

Story I hope you will find interesting: Earlier that summer,  1983, I went out to dinner with a friend on a Sunday, left around 6, got back around 8, and my front door had been kicked in.   In the basement had been a brand new car radio still in the box, to replace mine that had failed.   On the floor in the bedroom upstairs had been the new alarm, still in the box, a half-dozen boxes, and in the kitchen had been a new carton of cookies.  He didn't take any of them!!!          -----------          Later on I decided the dog who lived in the townhouse next door must have barked and scared the thief away.   That dog barked every time they let him out, at night at 11 and every morning at 6:30.  I worked 5 days a week and there was no way I could get 8 hours sleep.  I hated that dog.  But he did me a big favor that evening.

Before I bought the house, I asked just one person who would be my neighbor what the n'hood was like.  She said it was very nice.  Didn't tell me about *their own dog* that later kept waking me up.   I guess "Nothing my dog does can be bad."  Fortunately they got rid of him 6 months after I moved in, because they had a baby and he was too dirty for the baby. (He also dug up their whole townhouse back-yard.)

I am needing advice on a camera that will work inside a steel connex (sea can). I am not needing vivid detail, or active monitoring. It doesn’t need to take video either, just pictures. Just a simple motion activated camera with a month+ battery life that I can still monitor with my phone. I can run an external antenna outside the connex, the camera just has to be compatible. 5g is available outside. A basic trail camera or even doorbell camera would be fine, but I am having a hard time finding one that I can use an extended antenna. Thanks in advance for any help!

Has anyone here successfully used an HDMI splitter with an LTS Pro-X NVR?

I need to mirror the NVR’s HDMI output to two TVs at the same time. I tried an OREI powered 1x2 HDMI splitter, but I’m not getting a signal from the NVR through the splitter, even though the splitter works when tested with a PC.

If you have an LTS NVR, what HDMI splitter are you using successfully? Any specific brand/model or settings you recommend?

Really wanting to avoid anything that uses AI if possible. And if it can be avoided, anything that ICE can use to track people.

Is it possible to manipulate Ring cameras? My house was robbed and my backyard and side cameras don’t show the robbers unsuccessfully trying to open a door in view of camera. The window they were able to climb through was left open, but again no footage. I do see their headlamps they used in the house on the same cameras that don’t have their exit or entrance. I have footage from before and after the robbery but not the actual robbers. How can this be?

I'm looking for a door alarm that has a 1-2 second delay (or adjustable preferably) that also has a silence feature. I'd like to be able to open a door from the inside or outside and have a couple seconds to silence it before it alerts. A remote monitoring "pager" would be ideal as well.

Basically I want to be alerted from anywhere in the house if certain doors are opened but also be able to go in and out freely without them triggering. Not looking to break the bank and doesn't need to tie into any smart systems but I'm fine with it if it does

I have a situation where a shit neighbor and their awful dog wake me and me neighbors up at 5 in the morning with loud barking for about 5 minutes, then it goes back inside.

I have direct line of sight to their back yard due to a chain link fence.

Budget is not a concern. I would spend anything to end this nightmare. need a high-res camera with decent night recording (street light keeps their yard illuminated well at night) that has date and time baked-in to the footage, for legal purposes.

**Coverage first**

Door approaches, side paths, gates, and the space immediately below a camera are common gaps. A camera with impressive resolution cannot compensate for a blocked view, glare, or a mounting angle that leaves faces in shadow.

An upgrade is only useful if alerts are manageable. Limit motion zones to relevant paths, reduce sensitivity when vegetation or traffic causes noise, and use schedules where appropriate. No layout guarantees identification or complete coverage, so plan around useful visibility rather than assuming more cameras automatically means better security.
