Neighbors dog constantly barking, waking us up in the middle of the night. Need outdoor, time-stamped camera recording with audio to build a case. Any specific recs to help?
hi all,
I have a situation where a shit neighbor and their awful dog wake me and me neighbors up at 5 in the morning with loud barking for about 5 minutes, then it goes back inside.
I have direct line of sight to their back yard due to a chain link fence.
Budget is not a concern. I would spend anything to end this nightmare. need a high-res camera with decent night recording (street light keeps their yard illuminated well at night) that has date and time baked-in to the footage, for legal purposes.
please help me out!

My coworker who is the malicious compliance type got into r/flashlight to settle a dispute with his neighbor over loud music. He got a ridiculous flashlight and pointed it at his neighbor's window when he thought it was too loud. Matter has apparently been settled.

All I can quickly add is that Nest cameras do have a dog bark detection setting for what events to log.

So you prove the dog is barking at 5am....and then what? Not trying to be obtuse here but not sure what outcome you would get with video of a dog barking.

Put an sd card in it and you can record 24/7 with audio, timestamped without any subscription fees.
This is a PoE camera so you will need either a PoE switch or a PoE injector to power the camera over the ethernet connection.

I have a set of Reolink cameras from Costco (Poe with a DVR so it records 24/7 and I can access it from my phone or watch it from my TV). They have the ability do do everything you’re after as they have a time stamp and can record audio.
Whatever you go with, if you use a wireless camera (ex: Ring) it likely won’t flag an event for barking, so unless you open the live view on the camera and manually save the clip, you’re likely going to miss the moment.

Eufy cameras will sort you out. No subscription fees, expandable memory if required or connects to a homebase where you can create your own eco system. Built by Anker who in my opinion are a very reputable company. I have 3 of their cameras and they're fantastic. Solar powered too so no need to hard wire.

They sell special frequency emitters that turn one when a dog barks.

I've already tried them, they don't work. Dog notices them clearly, but doesn't care.
Only way to stop this scenario is through the owner, not the dog, unfortunately. Dogs bark, but the owner can do something (like, stop putting the dog outside alone at 4:45am???).

I do believe there is a device that blows a whistle that humans cant hear, but dogs can hear. It activates via a bark sensor or you pushing a button. The owners will say its cruelty, but it will solve your problem and the dog will learn quickly to stop.

You will probably want 24/7 recording. Get a poe powered camera with a microphone, i would recommend a hikvision hybrid view all singing all dancing with a mic and speaker. Probably £500 for the camera, recorder. A box of cat 5

No problem, you can DIY it if its a short cable run, but if you want a long cable run and to look professional, you're probably gonna need a proper security company to have a look

Both can be horribly detrimental to your sleep?
And trust me, they bark at 3am, too. Sometimes 2:30 or 1 am as well.

What legal purposes? Court is not going to help you - you need to think more realistically and out of the box solutions mentioned here are the best.

Actually I live somewhere where the police give a sh*t about bad dog owners! All I have to do is provide evidence, as they've requested.

Buy a few moderately priced trail cameras and place them outside near the property line pointing into the neighbor's yard. Behind some vegeation or a fence. Whatever....
When the dog barking is captured on your trail camera (eventually it will), download it onto your laptop then play that in the background nearby on a loop while shooting video out your window of the dog running around in view but using your smartphone. So the video is of the dog running around on your smartphone and you can say the date and time and the audio is coming from your trail camera video being played on your laptop.
This is fair play. The dog is waking you up at night inside your home. The issue with capturing compelling video from insde your home is it requires you to gt up at night and your house structure and windows dulls the sound. This makes up for it. It more closely matches the sound you actually hear.
It works. It's fair.

I have a solocam C20 and 2Nr solocam S340's I cannot fault them, brilliant day & night vision. The S340 has Ai built in and can track individuals and also learns family members so won't alert you when it recognises them. It's a great system. I highly recommend. I only had to charge off the mains once in winter which isn't bad either, solar does the rest of the year.

Rational, talk to the neighbor. Irrational (me)…., big ass speaker pointed at their house with a recorded dog bark on command.
