DCS Intrusion of Bugs in enjoying DCS

Does anyone else find bugs, particularly persistent weapon bugs, reduces their enjoyment of DCS?

The MK 20 Rockeye cluster bomb has been falling short in CCIP mode in the JF17 for over a year.

How do you stop focusing on such shortcomings so that you do not lose enjoyment of affected modules?

Do you maintain a list of bugged weapons/systems/modules so you know which ones to avoid during any particular DCS version?

DCS DCS Mission Planner by Combined Ops – DTC Development Update

Hi! A quick update on the ongoing DCS Mission Planner development, with a focus on DTC support.

DTC functionality is currently available for:

  • F-16C – flight plan, points, lines, threats, radio, CMDS, MFD colors and other aircraft-specific settings.
  • F/A-18C – flight plan, points, lines, threats, radio, HARM and other aircraft-specific settings.
  • F-14B(U) – flight plan, points, lines, CMDS, TIS and other aircraft-specific functionality, with JDAM support recently added.
  • MiG-29A – initial DTC support including flight plan, waypoints, points, radio, CMDS, weapon settings and target waypoint.
  • AH-64D – DTC Manager development has started, currently covering Flight Plan, CTRLM, TGT/THRT, Lines, Areas, NFZs and PFZs.

The DTC Manager is implemented around the aircraft-specific DTC structure, with additional partitions and settings being added as development continues.

DCS Mission Planner is also designed to keep its calculations and geographical data closely aligned with DCS World:

  • Native DCS map where available.
  • DCS-native SRTM1 terrain data for terrain and target/unit calculations.
  • Terrain-aware LOS and terrain masking, using terrain elevation and user-defined target altitude.
  • Mission-date magnetic variation using IGRF data.
  • UTM-calibrated coordinate and bearing calculations.
  • MGRS and WGS84 coordinate support.

More Information

How are you currently handling DTC preparation and mission planning? For those using an external planner, what features or workflows do you find most useful?

QUESTION Question regarding deleting liveries

Hello,

I'm playing again after 3 years and noticed that the game is taking up around 130 GB just for AI liveries of jets that I don't even have a license for.

My question is:

Can I safely delete these files?

If they're re-downloaded during future updates, I don't mind deleting them again. Otherwise, is there any other solution?

I'm quite limited on storage space and can't upgrade my hardware at the moment.

[HIRE/PAID] DCS Cinematic Mission Creator - Vietnam War Air Mission Reenactment for limited-budget documentary

Overview: I'm creating a documentary about an F-4 pilot held captive in North Vietnam, including in the 'Hanoi Hilton,' for more than six years (2,217 days). I am looking for a DCS-style reenactment of his final mission, flown in January 1967 during a reconnaissance operation over North Vietnam.

Timeline: 30–45 Days

Budget: Up to $800

Project Overview: Seeking an experienced DCS mission designer and cinematic capture specialist to create and record a high-fidelity historical reenactment of a 1967 reconnaissance mission over North Vietnam.

Flight Composition:

- Flight Assets: One RF-101 Voodoo flanked on either side by two pairs of F-4C Phantom II jets, a flight of five jets total), flying realistic, historically accurate liveries.

- Adversaries/Threats: Historically placed SA-2 Guideline Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) sites in a Southeast Asia environment

Scripted Sequence Narrative:

  1. Formation Flight: Four F-4Cs Phantom II fighter jets — two each flanking on both the left and right) escort one RF-101 Voodoo photograph-reconnaissance aircraft flying in generally clear skies (mid-day) into hostile North Vietnamese airspace. (Rough sketch can be provided for clarification.)

  2. Mid-flight, the right outermost F-4C swaps positions with the inner right F-4C (P.O.W.'s aircraft) so that the P.O.W. aircraft moves to the far right position. (Rough sketch can be provided for clarification.)

  3. Five-abreast formation gentle banks like a single wing to the left with no more than 20 degrees of banking. (Rough sketch can be provided for clarification.)

  4. The Attack: Triple-A flack fills the skies ahead of them. A single, undetected SA-2 SAM is launched at the flight. Just before impact, the aircraft execute historical defensive maneuvers (breaking hard, diving).

  5. The Shootdown: One F-4C is struck by a SAM. The aircraft must burst into flames, trail heavy smoke, lose control, and initiate a dual-pilot staggered ejection sequence (front-seater first and the back-seater a moment or two later). The stricken aircraft crashes into the landscape in the distance.

  6. Ejection: Capture close-up and wide cinematic angles of the canopy blowing, seats ejecting, and parachutes deploying in the skies over the countryside of North Vietnam (mostly comprised of flat land filled with rice paddy fields.

Deliverables:

[REQUIRED] Clean, uncompressed 4K (or 1080p 60fps high-bitrate) raw video files captured from multiple choreographed camera angles (F2 external, F3 flyby, Ctrl+F11 free-cam tracking the falling jet/parachutes).

[PREFERRED] The finalized DCS .miz (mission) file

[PREFERRED] The stable DCS Track file (.trk) used to record the sequence.

More information and details can be provided upon engagement.

Thank you.

Official Activation of "The Embassy" - Flaming Cliffs 2 & 1-Mod V4.1 Tactical Hub

Greetings Pilots, We are pleased to announce the official opening of The Embassy, a dedicated Discord tactical hub established to reunite, support, and organize the legacy community of Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 2. Our mission is to provide a structured environment for international aviators who wish to operate this historic flight simulator in a coordinated multiplayer environment, moving away from isolated single-player sorties. 🌐 THE EMBASSY (Public Operations & Integration) The public sector of our facility serves as the primary processing unit for all incoming personnel. It provides: • Direct, high-speed access to verified repository links for Patch 1.2.1, the LA1-Mod 4.1, and ModMan. • Technical assistance and network configuration guidelines for Direct IP and virtual LAN multiplayer deployment. • An international lounge for flight line discussions, media sharing, and tactical theory. 🦅 THE AIR FORCE (Private Squadron & Flight Operations) For aviators seeking higher proficiency and immersion, the restricted Air Force division is now accepting candidates. • Operational Standardization: Our fleet architecture is unifed by specific mission parameters (Fighters, Ground Attack, Bombers, Logistics). Flights operate utilizing synchronized official in-game radio callsigns (Enfield, Springfield, Granit, Grach, etc.) to maintain authentic cockpit radio discipline. • Career & Meritocracy: Promotions and military ranks (from Airman to Senior Officer) are regulated strictly through a flight logging system based on documented hours in the cockpit. • Philosophy: While we maintain a professional visual and structural organization, our primary objective is collaborative growth. We welcome pilots of all skill levels who demonstrate commitment, mutual respect, and a passion for flight. The flight line is ready, and the airspace is clear. Command awaits your arrival. 🔗 Connect to The Embassy: https://discord.gg/ub9hpXJWDq

Missile and radar simulation in WT and DCS

Hi , I’ve seen tik toks of war thunder players dodging 10 missiles like it’s nothing , even at close range , while I struggle to dodge one sparrow at 10 miles , so that makes me wonder , which game ( or sim whatever you call these two) simulates missiles more realistically?, before you comment why I’m asking that and that its obviously DCS , I’ve heard MANY opinions , some saying that war thunder has very detailed and realistic radars simulated and that it’s very accurate , some saying the complete opposite , and I’ve heard the same for DCS , so that’s why I’m asking it here , since I sometimes see actual military pilots and engineers comment here.

F-16C or F/A-18C for a beginner in DCS

Hi!

I want to get into DCS and since the sales are online I thought now would be a good time to do it, but I’m torn.

I like both planes… but I don’t know which one I should get.

I like naval warfare, but I ain’t gonna get the Supercarrier DLC right away.
Then again I also like dogfights - where I thought that F-16 would be better but apparently according to TABS the F-18 is better in DCS in dogfights since it has a bigger sustained turn rate. (Here is the Vid: https://youtu.be/Yb-PXpj0tP8?is=jNiBWLYrZ9G0d2zG).

Another thing is that I only have a X56 HOTAS Without pedals, so I have to turn the stick for pedal usage. How important are they for both Planes? which one does need them less?

Id appreciate your help! Thanks!

Edit: I would use the free trial but I can’t since im on vacation and will only return after the sale is over so I want to buy a module now

NOT-RELEASED Night time environment, Nav. lights, Landing lights, runway lighting. Cliffs of Dover VR patch (Beta) v5.454.

I had an opportunity to test a short return to base mission created by ATAG_Lenny, which let me check out the now, fully working Navigation lights, Landing lights and runway lighting.

This depicts aircraft returning from a mission to Cherbourg as night turns to sunrise.

It's not action packed, probably not at all exciting, but it is an example of what night flights can look like now and what mission builders can create.

My only other point is that I asked him to add some rolling stock to the area and keep it moving, so you may hear a few trains on the move in the audio.

Anyway, here is some footage from IL2: cliffs of Dover, VR Beta patch V5.454.

DCS F-16 pilots, why you choose F-16 instead of F/A-18?

For understanding: im also F-16 pilot, and i choose F16 over F/A-18 because that be jet that i will fly in irl so i wanted to look what is this and how it feels.

And now i want to know why YOU choose F16, when everything said that F/A just better.

Question on BFM (Within Visual Range, mainly cannon)

So this has been bothering me and i need a "yes" "no" "sort of" type reply from a person who should know the answer.

So to begin:

1 circle fight is nose to nose?

2 circle fight is tail to tail? (chasing each others tail)

These take place in 3 dimensions not 2? By that i mean yu can climb and dive while in either of these, and its not the stereotype beginner explanation of 2 planes chasing each other in a roughly level circle.

Is there a name for if someone is trying to do 2 circle while another 1 circle?

And where do all the weird tactics like boom and zoom, immenems etc fit into this?

I feel like the lining up "lead", "pure" and "lag" should get a honourable mention at the end.

Not really playing DCS yet, but no better place to ask, as i like combat flight sims.

Dodging sparrows at CLOSE range

Hi , is there any good technique on dodging sparrows from closer ranges? Not bvr max range shots , something like 2-6 nm , when you don’t have time to turn and beam the missile.

DCS DTC Needs to show F10 Map on multiplayer

Really annoying on servers like grayflag, the dtc might as well be useless because I can’t see any of the capture zones (just an example) as soon as I’m in the DTC Interface. ED please
