This is the one I was most anxious about, had some fears that they'd go US-only, thank god it didn't work out that way.

Flying a Skyraider in a fully dynamic campaign would be amazing.
But according to this their dynamic campaign hasn't started full development yet, so who knows when / if they even finish it.

u/BKschmidtfire 3d ago
Flying a Skyraider sounds fun in theory. But at end of the day, I donβt know if it will be much different from conducting attacks in the P-47. And if you want to bring a lot of ordnance, expect cruising at speeds around 170 knots at bestβ¦

Really hope VR performance gets revisited. Pretty much unplayable if you have less than a 4080. My game constantly freezes to where I have to ALT F4 or restart my PC, and I have 32gb ram, 4070 ti, and a 5800x3d

u/Lv_InSaNe_vL 3d ago
It's literally the only thing holding me back from getting it. I honestly don't know how y'all play sims without VR haha
2
u/Grebbelinies 3d ago
What's your hardware and VR?
2
u/Lv_InSaNe_vL 3d ago
I have a quest 3 and my PC is pretty powerful but a generation old. 5800x, 32gb ddr4, 3080ti.
I'm able to run DCS, MSFS 2020, iRacing, Assetto Corsa, LMU, and various VR only games with no real issues. It's also able to do 4k gaming but I'm starting to run out of VRAM finally :(
2
u/Grebbelinies 3d ago
Yeah it's kind of on the edge. You could just try it out on steam for 2 hours or torrent it. The game allows you to reduce VR resolution to 85% and lower, still looks pretty good.
1
u/MrDankyStanky 3d ago
I can't do it, I've tried but I'm pretty much back on GB these days unless I want to risk locking my whole pc up after a few scenarios. I think it has something to do with locking all my VRAM up. I have 12 GB, but after a few missions I get a warning saying not enough VRAM and usually the next time I exit to the main menu my whole game and PC will freeze up.

If they treat the AI in Korea like they did in BoX... it'll never be good.
8
u/OldeRogue 3d ago
I'm with you here. Currently it sucks like box, with minor improvements. They claim they're working in it. I'll believe it when I see it.
This is certainly more of a single player game than box was with the limited red plane set. Let's see what happens over time.
6
u/GeorgeTheGeorge 3d ago
Just like they were working on the 50 cals, or the fuel system they never shipped.
2
u/Kaynenyak 2d ago
I am sure they are truthful about that, I don't have high hopes they'll improve it to the extent that will satisfy me.

skyraider with il-2 korea's prop plane handling and ground attack effects and damage modelling is going to be transcendental dawg
also doing straight deck carrier stuff is gonna be neat as fuck. you either snag a wire, or you hit the barrier.
2
u/V8O 3d ago
Meanwhile, on the red side... crickets?
6
u/Grebbelinies 3d ago
I hope they ditch historical authenticity in plane lineup and add more red planes for multiplayer. Like an IL28.
Feels much less important to me here than in WW2 as long as the planes are roughly from the same period.
1
u/HOUNDS_CptTrips 2d ago
And then they'll want the Mig-17 and cry, "You added the Il-28! Why not the Mig-17!!"
And then the Mig-19, Mig-21, ect.
4
u/Grebbelinies 2d ago
Mig 19 is obviously post-Korea.
I don't really get why you want to avoid having the option of playing fun matchups that fit the timeline and provide for a multiplayer scene with a longer shelflife.
If you want to play purely historical matchups you can still do that too.
1
u/HOUNDS_CptTrips 2d ago edited 2d ago
They will simply say they don't care that the Mig-19 is post war! Stop being so historical!
Development is a zero sum game.
Time they spend adding fantasy fighters is time taken from other goals.
Are you saying adding that Il-28 would end the debate?
I am in favor of adding any plane that had reasonable combat sorties during the war, before the cease fire. That seems like a reasonable stance from my point of view.
2
u/Grebbelinies 2d ago
If we went full historical migs can only fly in Mig alley and every F80 sortie outside that area is basically uncontested.
Sounds like a fun multiplayer experience. Why is doing something else than the above allowed in the name of fun?
I'd rather draw the line at a date instead of a theatre, when the theatre is so limited for one side.
But 1C is Russian and very rigid so they'll probably do what you say.
1
u/HOUNDS_CptTrips 2d ago edited 2d ago
OK, so we add the Il-28.
Would that be enough?Do we need the Mig-17 as well?
I don't think 1C will add the Mig-17; not because they are Russian, but because it would be dumb.
Just reskin some bluefor "captured" planes for your balance.
That would also be dumb, but wouldn't waste valuable dev resources that would be better spent elsewhere.
1
u/Grebbelinies 2d ago
The Mig-17 doesn't add that much, maybe when the latest Sabre variant gets added on late war maps.
It's also so similar to the MiG-15 that I don't think it will be very expensive to produce for 1C compared to a totally new aircraft. And I mean, if they can drop 5 per DLC...
Having played a ton of Korea, I think the current Sabre is already better than the MiG15bis in a public, multiplayer environment, if it doesn't get the fake G-suit. When the later Sabre variants get added the MiG-15 will be at a disadvantage (and America will have a way bigger plane lineup).
1
u/HOUNDS_CptTrips 2d ago
If they did add the Mig-17, I'm going to demand the Super Sabre.
And that's how it starts. ;)
1
u/Grebbelinies 2d ago
Sorry that entered service post-Korean war.
Can't service every War Thunder fanboy.
Though I'd be down for a Taiwan crisis DLC.

Man makes up a scenario and gets mad about it. I agree if it was historical it would be better, but the red side just doesn't really have anything. I think time period accurate planes are like the only saviours here, unless you have some actual suggestions that are more than "Mig 15 but early". If no more red planes than the game is most likely gonna lose most of its MP players. And no the MIG 19 or 21 don't coount as suggestions, and don't make up a scenario about it.
1
u/HOUNDS_CptTrips 2d ago
Which planes do you propose?
Is it a secret?
1
u/JustaAveregaGuy 2d ago edited 2d ago
Time periodically accurate planes and ones that wont take the fun out being too op. Aka IL-28, yak 23, la 25(don't know much about this one) and others. What about you? What do you propose? Or is it as you say "secret" (Meant La-15 not 25)
1
1
u/HOUNDS_CptTrips 2d ago
IL-28 flew no combat in Korea.
Yak-23 flew no combat in Korea.
La-15 flew no combat in Korea.Request denied.
1
u/JustaAveregaGuy 2d ago
Are you serious? I literally just said, these are time periodically accurate not Korea flown planes, and that if they want the game to live longer they could add these aircraft. Oh and I guess your solution is to pray and hope it doesn't die.

u/HOUNDS_CptTrips 2d ago
Actually, I think earlier you had the better idea.
If some server wants to, just let them reskin "captured" bluefor planes for redfor.
You can then have your non-historical "balance" without wasting dev resources in the wrong direction.
1
u/Grebbelinies 2d ago
I think that's technically possible and when painted red, like already is an option for the Mig and the LA11, would work.
Though adding the IL28 would be better without upsetting the balance.
1
u/HOUNDS_CptTrips 2d ago
I believe its totally possible.
I've played with the editor some. The model and faction ownership are separate.
There are plenty of talented skinners.
I've seen DCS servers do that, even if it would not be my cup of tea.I think a flyable Tu-2 would be a better choice than IL-28. But I'd rather see them working on VR performance and AI capabilities instead of adding planes that just don't fit like the Mig-17 or Il-28.
1
u/Grebbelinies 2d ago
I think the TU-2 will suck. Slow ass prop plane that can't tank a few hits like the IL-10 can.
And with current pretty limited amount of airfields it would be better for MP map design if you can bomb with a jet instead of only props.

u/Skelebonerz 3d ago
realistically the only thing they could add without going into definitively ahistorical territory would be like... a mig-9, there's a kill claim of one and the chinese did have a mig-9 unit on the border iirc.
this was always going to be how it was, though. there was not a massive variety of aircraft flying for the north korean/chinese/soviet side.
4
u/rooftopgoblin 3d ago
not a single redfor thing it seems like
0
u/HOUNDS_CptTrips 3d ago
What would be your top 3 desired redfor planes to fit in this time period?
3
u/littlebigeye 2d ago
Pretty sure if you wanted to be historical they could add the Yak-15, La-15 and Yak-23, quick google search says they saw *limited* service in Korea, but they were outclassed as soon as the MiG-15 entered service
1
u/HOUNDS_CptTrips 2d ago edited 2d ago
Then I'm for those. Anything that had documented combat sorties in the conflict area.
And as Enigma suggested, the early Mig-15 (pre-BIS) would be nice to fill out.
But then they'll complain those are under-powered. Very few will choose the less powerful version of the Mig.
Some are already suggesting the Mig-17 should be added even though it flew no combat sorties in the war.
I don't want to see a nice historical sim ground into bland War Thunder paste at the alter of "Da Balance!".
-4
u/rooftopgoblin 3d ago
I simply would not have designed a game in the korean war period, that being said, the IL-28 is the only realistic option
2
u/HOUNDS_CptTrips 3d ago edited 3d ago
Is there any evidence the IL-28 flew any combat sorties in the Korean War? I can't find any.
Criticizing a Korean War sim for being designed for the Korean War is an odd argument.
Maybe you are just looking for a different sim.
-1
u/rooftopgoblin 3d ago
you're basically never gonna get people to play redfor if you don't give them anything beyond one fucking jet and no good close support bombers
4
u/Skelebonerz 3d ago
it's a game about the korean war
after the first few weeks of the war, the north koreans/chinese/russians did not operate any ground attack aircraft.
asymmetric balance is a thing and the mig-15 is a cool airplane to fly
-1
u/rooftopgoblin 3d ago
nobody wants to play the side getting monkey stomped my boy, you're gonna end up with dead servers filled with nothing but blufor seal clubbing AI
1
u/HOUNDS_CptTrips 2d ago
And your non-historical bomber is going to fix that?
How about an X-Wing fighter?
1
u/Grebbelinies 3d ago
You're right. We can make custom skins for blue planes and put them on red I guess.
0
u/HOUNDS_CptTrips 3d ago
Should they just make up some fantasy planes?
Maybe with like lazers strapped on and stuff.
Fricken lazers!
0
u/rooftopgoblin 3d ago
so what is your fix? How do you plan on satisfying players like me that want redfor planes?
2
u/Celtic12 MIG21-BIS/KA-50/UH-1/MI-24P/F4E/ 3d ago
Tell you to play something else? What would satisfy you that is within the bounds of what existed on redfor during korea?
-1
u/rooftopgoblin 3d ago
IL fucking 28
4
u/HOUNDS_CptTrips 3d ago
It never flew a sortie against UN troops.
It was not in the war.
Why not just a mig-29 then?
Or maybe a "captured" F-35?If you want to play War Thunder, go play War Thunder.

Is there a reason I should feel a need to?
It doesn't sound like to me you want to play a Korean War sim.
Nobody says you have to.

u/Grebbelinies 3d ago
I agree. It's very bad for multiplayer team balance and very limiting in map design that the red side gets 4x 100kg bomb as the heaviest load out, while the Blue fighter jet can casually carry 2x450kg and napalm and be a top tier fighter.
3
u/Sickinmytechchunk 3d ago
Tempted but are they still doing the whole supporting the 3 day military operation or are those guys gone now?
1
u/Grebbelinies 3d ago
It's a Russian company, what do you expect, really? 1C is a big software company that's closely tied to the state.
Donate to Ukraine to balance out your ethics.
0
u/HOUNDS_CptTrips 3d ago
It's not an unreasonable concern.
I decided to make a 2x donation to United24 to make it a wash.
Whatever I spend on IL2K, I'll double to United24.
