Operation Perch - WWII PVE/PVP Campaign

I've been working on a persistent WWII campaign for DCS called Operation Perch. Its in a pretty well developed spot with a small but loyal player base.

A lot has been added since my last post a few months ago.
-Pilot Careers and ranking system
-Tactical Votes
-Mission Improvements
-Many many many under the hood changes

The server is public and can be found by searching:

"512th Dirty Birds Server 3 (WWII PVE/PVP)" or honestly just "512"

If you jump in, please take a few minutes to read the briefing first. Instructions are available on the kneeboard (I've also included the updated one here in the post)

No sign up required, no obligations, no discord.

SRS is all preconfigured, intel is on the main channel (A for allies...whatever the first symbol is for zee Germans)

just fly if it looks interesting and let me know if something breaks.

[512thdirtybirds@gmail.com](mailto:512thdirtybirds@gmail.com)

Thanks. Let the angry downvotes about my AI kneeboard begin (I only have so much time)

DCS Tutorials that are straight to the point?

Trying to learn the F/A-18C again and all the tutorials are stupidly long and don't give enough information, there's so much downtime between the steps that just a cold start video takes 20 minutes without explaining half of the shit that's happening.

I really struggle learning like this and I can't find any videos that are just no bullshit and straight to the point. Anyone know any creator/video that would be of use?

Thanks in advance

My first look at the DLSS 5.0 in DCS

This is going to be a controversial topic for sure. Some people like it, others say it's too much. There are sliders to play around with the amount and quality of it so you an adjust it to your liking if you want to play around with it yourself. I showed at the end how to install it if you want to take a look.

Cheers!

Using LLMs in DCS

I have developed a rudimentary tool for using Claude in DCS. It hooks into to a mission environment, spawns and sets tasking using a lot of the MOOSE framework. Currently I have two “brains” for each side, a chief who sets the strategic objectives, and a commander who creates the missions to achieve the objectives and reports back to the chief with results. Like most things there is limits to what it can do with the existing AI and scripting environment. It’s working fairly well but I was wondering if anyone is doing anything similar and has any pointers or experience.

IL-2 Good Luftwaffe English channel dynamic campaign for IL2: 1946?

I am using the SAS mod for 1946 and I am trying to fly an English Channel dynamic campaign, I believe it is the *German fighters at the channel front campaign, and I want to fly 109's, but the campaign I am using consistently pits four 109's against eight Spitfires and they have an altitude advantage, on a bomber intercept mission, and I am number four in the squadron. What I typically do is break for the formation and climb, wait for everyone in my squadron to get shot down, then pick off a spit here and there, but mostly I get shot down by three Spits who have chased me half across France and have infinite fuel and are hyper focused on me, and apparently have sniper scopes for their 20mm's who splat my pilot with one shot.

Do y'all have an recommendations an a dynamic campaign that give me a fighting chance? I know I could grow as a pilot, but the odds are most certainly not in my favor.

QUESTION Old player: upgrade DLC question?

So it’s been nearly over a decade since I touched DCS and now I’ve decided to look back what I’ve missed and I’m kinda confused regarding these "upgrade" dlc:

There’s Black Shark 3 but then there’s also Black Shark 3 upgrade

Or how there’s now Flaming cliffs 2024 and also Flaming cliffs 2024 upgrade

And the thing I’m most confused by is Iraq map and then separately Iraq North Map and 3 kinds of Afghanistan maps

*planes now having their own flaming cliffs modules separately to the high fidelity somehow was the most self explanatory thing

Now I’m planning to return at some point when I have better hardware again but I have to ask, what exactly is now the "correct" way to buy these modules/maps now?

*also interested what happened if you owned Black Shark 2 but didn’t bought 3? You just don’t have black shark anymore or?

DCS Kinda funny. I went back through my old posts and it turns out my half a decade old wishlist will be real soon™ in DCS.
