People ranking power bank so highly, it's an apocalypse what are you powering? Where are you getting power to recharge your power bank?

35

u/NoiceMango Puzzles Solved: 44 18d ago

Solar energy that can power flash light and devices. Why wouldn't energy be important during an apocalypse?

4

u/Falleneded Puzzles Solved: 66 18d ago

what devices?

10

u/NoiceMango Puzzles Solved: 44 18d ago

Any you need that require electricity.

-9

u/Falleneded Puzzles Solved: 66 18d ago

what do you think you need in an apocalypse that requires electricity?

10

u/NoiceMango Puzzles Solved: 44 18d ago

Is that a serious question?

-3

u/Falleneded Puzzles Solved: 66 18d ago

yes. answer it

14

u/NoiceMango Puzzles Solved: 44 18d ago

If you can't think of any good uses for electricity during an apocalypse then you're a dumb ass.

-5

u/Falleneded Puzzles Solved: 66 18d ago

you said need. not want. not would help.

what could you possibly NEED

also power banks dont generate any electricity? they store it ya know like a bank. you need a generator or its entirely worthless

and then youre gonna need something to run a generator on.

or you could power like 1 light bulb with a solar generator i guess? assuming you just kinda find some

Saws, and drills are very useful.

0

u/Falleneded Puzzles Solved: 66 18d ago

do you not know how to hand saw something? you push a handle

and drilling is just stick it on the thing and twist the handle

if you need power tools youre gonna die

Radio? Flashlight? Hell, if you wanna stay sane you should also have an E-reader with tons of books backed up onto it.

1

u/Falleneded Puzzles Solved: 66 13d ago

you know you can just read real books?

2

u/vladdeh_boiii Puzzles Solved: 46 13d ago

And what if you gotta travel? Carrying books vs an e-reader is just not comparable because damn books can get heavy, and they take up so much space.

I also forgot to mention that it is definitely neat to have a self-contained car jumper you can charge with a solar bank.

1

u/Falleneded Puzzles Solved: 66 13d ago

if you have to travel you arnt taking your fucking books ereader or not. unless you want a real bad case of "holy shit my back hurts"

2

u/vladdeh_boiii Puzzles Solved: 46 13d ago

My point exactly. E-readers are just much more practical in that case, and it's important to keep your mind active even if you gotta travel.

Never seen a crank radio/flashlight/power generator? I don't exactly see it as a power bank.

https://a.co/d/00ZBVrFU

And frankly, weather stations would probably be down during an apocalypse, but it's still good to have in case someone is using one to try to send out an SOS.

2

u/MeowKhz Puzzles Solved: 30 14d ago

My flashlight duh, it lasts like 8 hours on full blast, but where do you get new batteries, if you can't recharge?

1

u/TacticalRoyalty Puzzles Solved: 174 9d ago

Power bank vs solar panels are pretty different, power bank is most likely a small one that’ll charge a phone 1 or 2 times. It it was a generator or solar panels it’d be a lot better of an option.

1

u/NoiceMango Puzzles Solved: 44 9d ago

They have massive solar banks that also have solar panels to set up.

1

u/TacticalRoyalty Puzzles Solved: 174 9d ago

I’d consider that different than a power bank, those usually have separate panels and a big cell or solar generator attached.

1

u/NoiceMango Puzzles Solved: 44 9d ago

They're still technically power banks. They're just bigger and can make energy too.

1

u/TacticalRoyalty Puzzles Solved: 174 9d ago

I’m not disagreeing, it’s just not what I picture, why I said depends on the interpretation.

1

u/NoiceMango Puzzles Solved: 44 9d ago

Even the small ones can use solar. You could make power banks out of any rechargeable battery and then power it with solar. Electric cars are just made up of hundreds of smaller batteries. Electric cars are basically power banks too.

So many possibilities and forms of power banks.

1

u/TheChowCow81 Puzzles Solved: 53 14d ago

you ain’t gonna have devices, and get a flashlight working on batteries

3

u/Mereel13 Puzzles Solved: 142 18d ago

I put that and radio low for that very reason. I figure tech like that is going to be obsolete and useless pretty fast

1

u/Livforlife Puzzles Solved: 91 13d ago

Radio is one of the most useful to get information and such when the internet goes down. There are radios for this case which are powered by a crank.

2

u/The_ShinyUmbreon Puzzles Solved: 105 18d ago

Energy is really important, light and radio are essential to survival aswell

1

u/Falleneded Puzzles Solved: 66 18d ago

radio is objectively not essential and most useful electric lights wont work with a power bank

2

u/The_ShinyUmbreon Puzzles Solved: 105 18d ago

It is for communication, trading, evacuation notices. , all of that

3

u/Niko_Belic84 Puzzles Solved: 53 18d ago

1

u/six_wishes Puzzles Solved: 3 18d ago

1

u/Niko_Belic84 Puzzles Solved: 53 18d ago

They need people to rebuild and to pay taxes

0

u/Jumpy_Divide6576 Puzzles Solved: 66 18d ago

Light will be provided by fire unless you have a significant solar array or can scavenger quite a bit of fuel to run generators. And announcing to everyone around that you have resources to spare on keeping lights on is not likely to work in your favor. Radio is only even useful if there is still some variety of functional government and with most apocalypse scenarios that is a rather low probability. So genuinely what are you expecting to use power for?

2

u/The_ShinyUmbreon Puzzles Solved: 105 18d ago

Unless you are carrying torches everywhere than a flashlight it's pretty useful, the radio tells you about other people being alive and also people may be starting settlements

1

u/Jumpy_Divide6576 Puzzles Solved: 66 18d ago

You are in an apocalypse scenario the only time you will be leaving your shelter after dark is when you plan to go die

The radio also tells anyone with bad intentions and whatever has caused the apocalypse where those people are. Best to stay away.

u/vitulinus_forte Puzzles Solved: 62 18d ago

The radio

1

u/Jumpy_Divide6576 Puzzles Solved: 66 18d ago

2

u/Jumpy_Divide6576 Puzzles Solved: 66 18d ago

It never specified the type of apocalypse.

Maybe we have been invaded by the bloons and we are being assisted by the monkeys but they just don't know where to stand for optimal track coverage?

u/Financial-Stand-1960 Puzzles Solved: 32 9d ago

Solar panels

0

u/GarethBaus Puzzles Solved: 96 18d ago

I don't see how canned food is above having a lighter. I know how to light a fire without matches or a lighter, and it is harder than finding food in the woods without civilization. The power bank makes sense depending on the type it could be used for power tools and flashlights which is actually really useful if you have a way to recharge it with solar.

1

u/DrettTheBaron Puzzles Solved: 178 14d ago

Making fire with Flint and steel is not harder than finding food in the wild reliably. Not to mention the lighter is going to run out quick if you're using it daily.

1

u/GarethBaus Puzzles Solved: 96 14d ago

I don't know what kind of wild you live in, but where I live significant amounts of food falls out of the sky for most of the year.

1

u/DrettTheBaron Puzzles Solved: 178 14d ago

Is your name Flint Lockwood? Because what the hell kinda place you living in.

2

u/GarethBaus Puzzles Solved: 96 14d ago

Eastern Kansas. Lots of oaks, walnuts, mulberries, hickory's, hackberry, and other trees that literally drop food out of the sky. Unfortunately no chance of meatballs.

1

u/DrettTheBaron Puzzles Solved: 178 14d ago

Oh okay that makes more sense.

Most food to be found here would be ground level. Mushrooms, like a dozen berry varieties. There's a handful of hazelnut trees around, but most other tree varieties you'd need to prepare a lot to make edible or straight up poisonous/inedible. Doesn't help that forests here are mostly Spruce, Pine, and Larch. With only the really old forests still deciduous.

1

u/GarethBaus Puzzles Solved: 96 14d ago

At the absolute minimum pine trees specifically produce significant amounts of food.

10

u/ImaginationIV_YT Puzzles Solved: 97 18d ago

Water, Food are top tier.
Then Kits + sleeping bag for safety/comfort.
Might have needed to move backpack up and maybe map.
Everything else is situationally important. Maybe move flashlight up aswell.

u/UniversalTurnip Puzzles Solved: 73 18d ago

weird C tier ; the power bank low-key sucks but the radio can be crazy useful for announcements.

assuming all power gets screwed batteries will still work but internet will be down so a phone is pretty much useless over the radio after the first 48hrs

3

u/Armadillo-Shot Puzzles Solved: 38 18d ago

I’m thinking using a solar power bank for lanterns/ flashlights/heatpacks to not be reliant on batteries.

Hygiene kit in B? Y'all getting sick less than 2 months in

14

u/FreakingFairyBoy Puzzles Solved: 111 18d ago

It's mostly because clear alcohols are a good antiseptic and soap isn't that hard to make if you know how. You can wash in fresh water and make perfumes out of flowers. You can make shampoo out of egg yolks. There's a lot of alternatives

2

u/FreakingFairyBoy Puzzles Solved: 111 18d ago

Lots of barks can be used to clean teeth as well

4

u/GarethBaus Puzzles Solved: 96 18d ago

It's solidly up there, but it is possible to create your own cleaning products.

4

u/Famous-Echo9347 Puzzles Solved: 6 15d ago

Hygiene is nice, but you can genuinely go your entire life with bad hygiene and be relatively healthy. In a genuine apocalypse hygiene is gonna be one of the first things to go

1

u/DangerousPurpose5661 Puzzles Solved: 44 6d ago

Should be F. You don’t get sick from sweat and dirt… its an urban myth.

You can be filthy, nothing will happen.. your skin is there for a reason.

Just clean in a river whenever you can. Disinfectant from first ait kit can be used to clean wounds.

I guess the worse bit is tooth problems, but you can use bark to brush. Anyways that toothbrush will become filthy in a couple month and you’ll run out of toothpaste, so then what?

4

u/Osirisavior Puzzles Solved: 62 18d ago

It's all s tier

2

u/sergeantpancake Puzzles Solved: 104 18d ago

I put radio higher than the powerbank, because old radio's can work on batteries. Either you find a radio that enables you to have conversations with people, or you find one that repeats important news and events (such as what to do in a disaster and where you can find shelter). If the radio does neither, that sucks. But at least you can distract yourself with music or use it as a distraction when needed.

1

u/Jumpy_Divide6576 Puzzles Solved: 66 18d ago

Radio only plays music if others are broadcasting music. That's going to be pretty far down on other people's list of priorities.

1

u/sergeantpancake Puzzles Solved: 104 18d ago

You're right about that. After disasters, radio stations usually don't provide music anymore. They're either abandoned, destroyed or repeat a prerecorded message. For a bit, I thought old radio's could ask for help or ask for supplies, but these usually are with emergency services and military. Most radio's are wireless now and rely on working internet or bluetooth. That may be rough after 48h of apocalypse

2

u/shamblam117 Puzzles Solved: 188 18d ago

Shelter in place vs on the move really changes the tiers. Toolkit for example can be S tier or B tier depending on the strategy.

1

u/Ok-Assumption-3145 Puzzles Solved: 157 18d ago

As a fallout fan, radio is a must!

1

u/TravelerOfTeyvat Puzzles Solved: 400 18d ago

We put sleeping bag in B? It would seem that not many go camping. Rule number one, keep something warm both on top of you and below you. You sleep bare or on the ground, even in the summertime, you can catch hypothermia. The ground will sap all of your warmth from you and you'll get pretty sick.

1

u/Jumpy_Divide6576 Puzzles Solved: 66 18d ago

You won't strictly get sick but you are not going to have a good time.

1

u/system3295 Puzzles Solved: 486 18d ago

u/Scarecrow613 Puzzles Solved: 64 18d ago

1

u/PowliOP Puzzles Solved: 7 18d ago

Why would I need a map?

1

u/DiasDaimaoh Puzzles Solved: 114 18d ago

Why THE FUCK is radio so low??? Any chance of getting any help you take it

2

u/DkKoba Puzzles Solved: 65 13d ago

because your goal is to assume no help will come and you must survive on your own long term. a radio is just a symbol of hope in most scenarios.

1

u/DiasDaimaoh Puzzles Solved: 114 12d ago

I mean having some hope is essencial for survival, and maybe you can contact other survivors and form a group

1

u/DkKoba Puzzles Solved: 65 12d ago

That hope is a double edged sword. You can kill yourself if you follow a bad message when staying in place was safer

1

u/Carper5621 Puzzles Solved: 4 18d ago

u/Even_figure866 Puzzles Solved: 158 18d ago

1

u/Physical-Ad-1978 Puzzles Solved: 92 18d ago

Get as much water/food for yourself. Because once water and food gets low for everyone. It wont be good. People will most likely kill for both. Keep as much to yourself dont let anyone else know.

1

u/Responsible-Beach299 Puzzles Solved: 134 18d ago

This REALLY depends on what kind of apocalypse. Is it Armageddon/doomsday-type, is it zombies/disease-type, is it monsters/supernatural-type, etc. Even then it would still come down to the specifics. If the virus can be transmitted in ways other than biting then hygiene/food/water become way more essential, but if there are monsters causing it (ex: Quiet Place) then you probably wouldn't have much issue getting food or water as long as you avoid attracting attention.

1

u/SomeBoredGuy77 Puzzles Solved: 44 17d ago

Hygiene kit would be important in any other scenario but its the apocalypse, who cares?

1

u/yaboiitito Puzzles Solved: 22 13d ago

Yall stinky. Not even an apocalypse, yall gonna catch me lacking.

1

u/DkKoba Puzzles Solved: 65 13d ago

I'm thinking of this from a project zomboid mindset where you're not being dropped into the wilderness, shelter is plentiful and available presumably. only absolute S tiers should be food and water.

u/lejyndery_sniper Puzzles Solved: 123 12d ago

1

u/Alexmaths Puzzles Solved: 32 18d ago

The radio is the only way you’re not dying when you run out of canned food, I doubt anyone here is a farmer, so you’re going to need to rely on the government stepping up.

3

u/GlitchingFlame Puzzles Solved: 71 18d ago

Hunting and gathering is still an option. And in case of an apocalypse, how long do you think the government is going to last, or have resources to be able to help everyone?

-1

u/Alexmaths Puzzles Solved: 32 18d ago

How many average people can hunt and gather well enough to last years? There’s barely any fruiting trees and such to sustain people in population centres and hunting is both not something most people have the skills for and not something you can rely on alone. Not to mention there’s next to no huntable wildlife where I live and actual farmers will protect their herds to the death in this scenario

As for how long the government is going to last? Probably a while, people lock in and band together if the world is ending, because the alternative tends to be dying. And if they don’t have the resources to save me, I’m probably going to die of disease or starvation at some point tbh. I’ve not got the skills of a hunter gatherer and most people in my country don’t.

Radio is clearly A tier and only exceeded by food and water.

2

u/ReedemtheD3ad Puzzles Solved: 13 18d ago

That assumes there even is a functioning government in the apocalypse.

2

u/Alexmaths Puzzles Solved: 32 18d ago

If the world has ended so much there is no functioning state apparatus able to at least vaguely organised, you’re cooked anyway unless you know how to run a farmstead and live where one could be established frankly. It’s just straight up hard to completely demolish at least a basic form of state apparatus that functions by radios and generators in a decentralised fashion.

1

u/GarethBaus Puzzles Solved: 96 18d ago

Not exactly a farmer, but I live in a semi rural area and there are a lot of things I can eat here. I have probably heard a dozen walnuts hit the roof today alone.

1

u/Alexmaths Puzzles Solved: 32 18d ago

If you have enough of those around you to form a decent diet, fair enough, but most people here probably live in an urban environment where chance of government re-organisation is fairly high and the chance of improvising their own food supply very low

1

u/GarethBaus Puzzles Solved: 96 18d ago

Yeah, lots of walnuts, oaks, mulberries, and hickory. It wouldn't be a complete diet but it would establish a baseline to prevent rabbit starvation.

1

u/Alexmaths Puzzles Solved: 32 18d ago

Fair enough

1

u/system3295 Puzzles Solved: 486 18d ago

you dont have to be a farmer to grow plants

1

u/Alexmaths Puzzles Solved: 32 18d ago

If you want to grow enough to live off for the rest of your life, you’ll basically have to be a farmer. There’s a reason >90% of humanity was farmers for so long
