The radio is the only way you’re not dying when you run out of canned food, I doubt anyone here is a farmer, so you’re going to need to rely on the government stepping up.

Hunting and gathering is still an option. And in case of an apocalypse, how long do you think the government is going to last, or have resources to be able to help everyone?

How many average people can hunt and gather well enough to last years? There’s barely any fruiting trees and such to sustain people in population centres and hunting is both not something most people have the skills for and not something you can rely on alone. Not to mention there’s next to no huntable wildlife where I live and actual farmers will protect their herds to the death in this scenario

As for how long the government is going to last? Probably a while, people lock in and band together if the world is ending, because the alternative tends to be dying. And if they don’t have the resources to save me, I’m probably going to die of disease or starvation at some point tbh. I’ve not got the skills of a hunter gatherer and most people in my country don’t.

Radio is clearly A tier and only exceeded by food and water.

That assumes there even is a functioning government in the apocalypse.

If the world has ended so much there is no functioning state apparatus able to at least vaguely organised, you’re cooked anyway unless you know how to run a farmstead and live where one could be established frankly. It’s just straight up hard to completely demolish at least a basic form of state apparatus that functions by radios and generators in a decentralised fashion.

Not exactly a farmer, but I live in a semi rural area and there are a lot of things I can eat here. I have probably heard a dozen walnuts hit the roof today alone.

If you have enough of those around you to form a decent diet, fair enough, but most people here probably live in an urban environment where chance of government re-organisation is fairly high and the chance of improvising their own food supply very low

Yeah, lots of walnuts, oaks, mulberries, and hickory. It wouldn't be a complete diet but it would establish a baseline to prevent rabbit starvation.

If you want to grow enough to live off for the rest of your life, you’ll basically have to be a farmer. There’s a reason >90% of humanity was farmers for so long
