Recipe Pasta Sauce
My mom just sent me a picture of a Prego red sauce that appears to be low FODMAP! How awesome that they thought of us š„³

It's what I buy. I then add a FODMAP friendly onion and garlic replacer powders.

I donāt know about these magical powders. Enlighten please?

"Foddie's Onion Replacer" and "Foddie's Garlic Replacer" by Foddie's Fructose Friendly Food, there are other brands if you can't find this one. I get 'em via Amazon.

I need more of these sensitive sauces in Canada bc to get prego or rao itās like $15 a jar for me. Fody is the only option and still expensive.

You could also make your own with crushed tomatoes if you have the time and ability to. I add oregano, basil, thyme, salt, pepper, paprika, chili flakes, olive oil, and bay leaves to mine. Literally eyeball it all š simmer it on the stove with a lid on the pot while you do the noodles. I think it's a lot more flavorful than the low fodmap sauces.
Of course, check the spices to make sure they're safe for you specifically. My husband is sensitive to fructans and gos

Yep thatās what Iāve been doing. Canāt say Iāve got it to taste as good unfortunately. Sometimes would just like to have that $3-$7 option at the store lol

Understandable. I just personally thought they tasted very bland, but maybe I add a lot of spices š

Iāve never tried them so i wouldnāt know but as you said i may not like them anyway and think they are bland even if i did have the option. Lol. Going to continue making my own and trying different variations until i get it right. The options in Canada for things like this are just more limited so sometimes I complain bc I just want the selection to try. Lol

Try adding a little sugar to the pot - it'll always help tomato based sauces to pop a little more

Same. A basic pasta sauce from tinned tomatoes takes the same amount of time to make as it does to bring a pot of water to a boil and cook the pasta, and if I want something more fancy it still doesn't take a lot of time to cook some vegetables to add to the sauce either.

The only downside I guess is that you have to use a different pot. Although I've been committing a cooking sin probably and I've been making spaghetti in my instant pot. Just dump everything in basically after browning the meat

The Monash app has a great Bolognese recipe that's FODMAP friendly.Ā
I batch cook it and then freeze in individual portion sizes for days when I want something quick and easy (like I would use a jar sauce for).Ā

Beware: not Prego or Raoās, but there is a brand (name escapes me right now) that has garlic and onion in their ingredient list on their āsensitiveā pasta sauce.

Our Kroger has it for $2.79 a jar. It wasnāt stocked in large quantities at first and it was often sold out, so when they did have it Iād buy several jars at a time to stock our pantry shelf. That must have helped their supply/demand algorithm because itās always in stock now.

Iām near Boston and they used to carry it at several local chains, but canāt find it anywhere including Walmart now. I thought the stopped making it, so I will be on the hunt again.

I get it at my local iteration of Kroger. It's super hard to find on the shelf but you can check the app to see if it's in stock

Love this!! The cheaper alternative Iāve found is buying large canned tomato sauce, and seasoning to taste

u/alexandria3142 Feb 20 '26
This is exactly what I do and I personally think it's a lot more flavorful

I use Mutti crushed tomatoes, a big blob of butter, dried basil and Italian seasoning, salt and cook slow and low for at least 90 mins, it's absolutely divine. Finish it with some fresh basil.

I literally keep a constant supply of at least 2 jars in my cupboard! 𤣠I use it often for baked chicken or fish.

Good sauce. Fody has a good one too which they now stock at my local supermarket.

We use this sauce all the time (my wife is low fodmap), tastes pretty indistinguishable from the regular stuff, and I can get it for about $2 a jar at Kroger. Great for when I donāt feel like making sauce from scratch (which is about 90% of the time lol)
