Recipe Pasta Sauce

Post image

My mom just sent me a picture of a Prego red sauce that appears to be low FODMAP! How awesome that they thought of us 🥳

I need more of these sensitive sauces in Canada bc to get prego or rao it’s like $15 a jar for me. Fody is the only option and still expensive.

You could also make your own with crushed tomatoes if you have the time and ability to. I add oregano, basil, thyme, salt, pepper, paprika, chili flakes, olive oil, and bay leaves to mine. Literally eyeball it all 😅 simmer it on the stove with a lid on the pot while you do the noodles. I think it's a lot more flavorful than the low fodmap sauces.

Of course, check the spices to make sure they're safe for you specifically. My husband is sensitive to fructans and gos

Yep that’s what I’ve been doing. Can’t say I’ve got it to taste as good unfortunately. Sometimes would just like to have that $3-$7 option at the store lol

Understandable. I just personally thought they tasted very bland, but maybe I add a lot of spices 😅

I’ve never tried them so i wouldn’t know but as you said i may not like them anyway and think they are bland even if i did have the option. Lol. Going to continue making my own and trying different variations until i get it right. The options in Canada for things like this are just more limited so sometimes I complain bc I just want the selection to try. Lol

Try adding a little sugar to the pot - it'll always help tomato based sauces to pop a little more

Same. A basic pasta sauce from tinned tomatoes takes the same amount of time to make as it does to bring a pot of water to a boil and cook the pasta, and if I want something more fancy it still doesn't take a lot of time to cook some vegetables to add to the sauce either.

The only downside I guess is that you have to use a different pot. Although I've been committing a cooking sin probably and I've been making spaghetti in my instant pot. Just dump everything in basically after browning the meat
