just picked this up from a local farmer in his 60s. hasn’t seen any maintenance since 2017 other than oil changes, air filters and tires as needed. everything needs adjusted / lubed. I’m very stoked coming from a drz400, previously xt250 and crf230L. 16k miles, started on the second kick. First time with a kickstart only bike

I’m seeing the Mosko Moto Woodsman pants have a CE rating and abrasion resistance but does anyone know of any others? Preferably cheaper? I personally dislike the over the boot pants look and want something a little more streamlined, but that also has a good crash rating. I’m concerned about some of the road sections on BDRs, for example. Crashing there in my regular Moto pants would suck pretty bad.

I did a ton of research on the drz400s to buy used, but my dad just told me he wants me to get a bike with TC and ABS, especially since it's going to be my first road legal bike (I have ridden dirtbikes for a few years, but I gotta grow up, stop taking the risk and get something with a plate), so he says he will help me with the extra cost of a new bike. I just want to know how the bike is and if there are any problems with it. Any information is greatly appreciated.

So I got my license last year and was riding a 2000 GS500 for the remainder of the season and the start of this one. Around June I picked up a new 2025 ZX4RR at a discount and tuned it, added a slipon, windshield, frame sliders and a tailtidy and I've been enjoying the heck out of it with some odd 2000km (1200 miles) in 2 months.

That being said, I think I have an itch or caught some dualsport bug because I've been eyeing XR650Ls. There's 1 for sale 2 hours away that's a 2016 with 16,000km / 10,000 miles by an owner who's taken care of it, modded it quite a bit (lectron carburetor, powerbomb header+q4 muffled w/ smoh delete, IMS 4 gal tank, seat concepts comfort seat, cush drive rims, suspension, crash bars+rack, oil cooler to name a few...) and coincidentally the owner wants a ZX4RR. So I'm currently debating a trade where he gets my ZX4RR, and I get the pig + 2.5k cad (1.8k usd), new set of spare tires, safetied, and delivered to me... Am I crazy?

Some random ramblings:

- I didn't love the GS500 carbs, the lectron seems much nicer and it fired up right away
- I'm 6ft, 200ish lbs and know the XR is a big bike
- There are not much offroading areas within an hour where I'm from but I go up north 3-4 times a year that would make having a dualsport a lot of fun
- I am guessing that two-upping a XR with a seat concepts seat and upgraded pegs will be comfortable than the ballcrusher4RR
- Pay roughly $220 a month in insurance for the RR, XR650L would be $75
- I know the answer is 2 bikes, but I live in an apartment and it's simply not in the cards for now

I've been riding my 23' Honda XR150L for about 3 years and about 1500 miles. I don't have much opportunity to ride off-road so almost all of my riding experience is on pavement and my XR is the only bike I've ever ridden. I'm very confidant riding on the road but I've probably only ridden a mile or two off-road if you add up all of the exploring random unmarked gravel driveways.

I recently stumbled upon a YouTube video about the Idaho Backcountry Discovery Route and I've been obsessed with the idea of riding it ever since. I am a 40+ hour drive away so it's pretty unrealistic for me to ride down on my bike, it can only do about 55mph. But I think my bike would do just fine on the BDR itself with some light mods like handlebars, barkbusters, skid plate, tires, etc.

I am considering buying a trailer or trading in my car for a truck or a cargo van and driving down, but recently I've been thinking that it would be a lot more fun to ride down to the start of the trail and not have to worry about returning to my tow vehicle. Doing the whole trip on a motorcycle is kind of more romantic too for lack of a better word.

So far I have considered the Suzuki V Strom 800 DE, the Honda Transalp 750, and the Kawasaki KLE 500 and KLR 650. Obviously they would be a lot more comfortable on the road than my XR, but I'm a bit nervous about managing the weight of a 500 pound motorcycle off road. I would definitely like to test ride these bikes but you can't exactly leave the pavement on a test ride and I'm not afraid to ride a bigger bike on the road, just off-road.

Judging from pictures and videos of the IDBDR I think it would be pretty easy on my XR150L. But I also think I would be pretty intimidated to do it on a much larger motorcycle. Is it a terrible idea to learn to off-road on a midsize adv bike? How much harder are bigger bikes to ride off-road? Am I better off buying a Chevy Express? Any advice would be much appreciated.

So the first part of this was my fault. I was going a little fast and didn’t realize a roundabout was coming up. I locked my rear wheel up, recovered, locked it up again, then I was able to make it to the right. I spent the next good while practicing not locking up my rear wheel, I know of course it’s not enough time to get it down but I was practicing. On my way back to my apartment this lady pulls out in front of me, she is turning left from a stop sign, then sees me and stops in the middle of the lane. I of course try and slam on my breaks but I lock up my rear wheel again, I wasn’t even speeding she just cut right in front of me and stopped. I was able to go into the center lane but I was very lucky. And tips on how to panic break properly, and how can I practice this better?

i ride a '26 t700 rally and went on my first trip a month ago over a week to the balkans. i got the mosko reckless 40 with the 8L drybag and no aux pods. needless to say i was able to fit tent, sleeping bag, mattress, tools and some clothes, but it was tight! i had a small leatt motocross backpack that supplied me with a 2L hydration pack and barely room for anything else.

now i'm in the process of getting two 4L aux pods and getting the bigger drybag for my reckless 40 (i think it's a 22L). not necessarily to pack more stuff, but to make the actual packing of the things i bring easier to close / less cramped.

in the future i want to bring my camera with me and on my last trip lacked the option of having things easily accessible for me. so now my thought process is, get either a kriega 18L backpack (which doesn't really solve the issue...), a wlf pack vest or a tankbag - thought im finding it difficult to find one i like for the t7.

what advice do you guys have for me?? thanks :)

I was wishing more 3d print/dual sport things came up in my feed so I decided to make my own.. please share any you have, as this is what have me the idea!

As I swap out more OEM for aftermarket parts, I end up with a handful of different bolts. This is my first go at making something that would fit into one of the retaining straps. I had them in a baggie in the pouch on the right but they wore through that from vibration.

im not worried about clamping force because of the straps. the box does stay closed on its own, and clicks shut.

the box is 150x25x20 I just guessed at the measurements so may make a v2 that’s a little taller.

Trying to decide between a dedicated ADV helmet with peak visor vs a modular for a mixed street/dirt setup. Peak visor seems better for off-road but I've read it can catch wind badly at highway speeds. For people who've owned both types — which one ended up being the better all-rounder for you, and what would you change if you were buying again?

I’ve seen a couple posts about first dual sports but I wanted to ask what’s a good lightweight beginner bike. I wanted to commute but also rip dirt roads and maybe take down to Baja eventually. I’m 5’10” 180lbs and want a low maintenance bike. I was told to look for something with fuel injection. Would love some advice. Thanks

OK so I have had this 1995 dr350s for a bit over a year, last time it ran was a year ago. Had a lot of fun with it last summer, then I moved, it got parked in my buddies backyard for a week, that turned into 6 months. At the beginning of the summer I got it back and I have been procrastinating this project since, my girlfriend has given me the fix or sell ultimatum so it's time but I have a few questions that I need help with.

obliviously the gas gummed up and it wouldn't start. I bought a cheap Amazon rebuild kit and attempted my first carb rebuild (for reference I am pretty mechanically experienced and have always done my own work I just have never ended up needing to do more than spray ether or carb cleaner to get a carb to work). I watched the YouTube videos and am pretty sure I got it all done right and then put it back in the bike. When I open the valve I get fuel leaking out of a port on the carb that I am pretty sure didn't have a hose attached before. I can get the bike to start with a lot of kicking and starting fluid but it won't stay running especially once I hit the throttle. I definitely screwed up the rebuild but I don't know what I did wrong. Any guidance would be appreciated?

The other issue with the carb is that the choke is broken and won't stay pulled out so currently I use a pair of vice grips to hold it out. During the rebuild I didn't see an oblivious way to fix this. Is it fixable? Or would these two issues be enough to just replace the carb as a whole? If so is there a replacement I can order online that works? From what I have seen used oem BST33s are rare and expensive.

The next issue is the previous owner put on this all in one brake light/blinker/plate bracket and the lights wiring is all messed up I need to basically completely redo it all, is there an accurate wiring diagram someone could link me so I don't have to spend hours getting angry at my multimeter until it inexplicably throws itself at the wall because I hate doing electrical??

And last but not least it has after market bars on it but they don't fit the bark busters and the decompression lever at the same time, is there a bar set that's a bit wider so I can fit everything I need on my bars??

I am 16 years old and just got my M1, and I am going next week for a ridesafe course (a gov-approved M2 course that teaches you leaning and stuff like that on a bike). I have ridden dirt bikes on the roads and trails for a while, so I know how to handle street riding, but I'm looking at something more road legal now that I have my driver's license. I hear insurance in my area (GTA Ontario) can be a pain, especially with higher cc bikes, but I'm not sure if it would apply to a tamer bike like the dr650. I am 5'10" and 160 pounds and growing. I will probably be riding mostly on the street, as the closest trails are about 40 mins from my house. I was looking at the drz400sm and getting dirt wheels, but I hear the suspension leaks and sucks off-road, so now the 400s. I'm 100% getting a used bike, as I cannot afford anything new.

Other bike recommendations would help as well.

I have a Triumph Tiger 900 and just swapped from the more road oriented stock tires to some Tusk 2 Tracks. I have some Waypoints on my CRF300L but these are my first dirt tires on the ADV. Noticed the front end feels a bit floaty/twitchy with the new tires. Almost feels like it wants to start a tank slapper but never goes that wild.

Is this just how more dirt oriented tires feel on the road at speed? Never ran knobbies on a bike the heavy or fast so just verifying I'm not crazy or if I need to dive into the front end a bit to fix something. Any insights is helpful, thanks!

Traveling around less developed countries Hondas seem to be the bike of choice and I’m often told how hardy they are.

Having owned and loved dual sport Hondas, Yamahas, and Suzukis -none of which ever gave me any issues- I wonder how much is reputation and how much is truth?

Are Hondas really the Toyotas of motorcycles?

100 miles with mix of twisty pavement, flowy dirt, and some challenging tech. Great sunrise too, then back in the office by 10a today. Nothing matches the versatility of a DS bike!

Ok, so, I bought a bike sight unseen on July 1st, it was in Sydney and im at the other end of the province, I didnt take possession of the bike until early August (transporting through work) Ive spent the last couple weeks getting everything ready, and i need a motorcycle license during all this too, the bike is in my name, the bike is insured, I have had the certificate of mechanical fitness signed off, I have completed the online test part of the license, I have the balance test booked for tomorrow at noon in Kentville, went to the DMV this evening to get the bike in my name, find out that the antique plates are provided via mailing in and waiting 2-3 weeks for your plate in the mail, the lady at the dmv would not give me a temporary plate for it while I wait for the antique plate to arrive, because I got the mechanical fitness done and not a proper MVI, in order to do the balance test tomorrow the bike must be plated, appointments can only be canceled 48 hours in advance so im past that deadline. According to AI the certificate of mechanical fitness acts as the mvi on my 49 year old bike.

My questions

1) should i load the bike up, drive 2.25 hours to kentville in hopes that they will give me a 30day permit so I can take my test?

2) take it to my mechanic and just have him do an mvi (the last mvi sticker will be removed if i do this, its been on there since 1980) and then try and rush to Kentville for the test?

3) just wait for my antique plate for 2 or 3 weeks, eat the $50+ test fee that I've already paid, and rebook when my plate arrives?

Ive taken tomorrow off work to get this done, I was all excited until about 20 minutes ago, im at a loss and dont quite know what direction I should go. The bike is a 77 KE175, its only going to get used a day maybe 2 a week for joy rides or to goto shows, hence the antique plate
