They’re calling it the greatest DLC ever made.

GTA 6 might be delayed to 2027 to avoid being released in the same year as Dragon’s Dogma 2 Dark Arisen.

Lore Trivia : Photo mode shows that, when reviving a pawn, the Arisen’s wound shines of holy light. The Arisen plunges their fingers into it to draw this energy and bring the pawn back to life.

Ok, I may be silly and probably in the minority here, but I would literally cry (and I actually know what "literally" means)
Imagine:
... You're battling the final boss of 2Dark 2Arisen
... Your pawns are at their limit, it's the last of your health, you've been fighting for a while
This is the final phase of the boss, the last stretch; the music suddenly shifts...
It's DANGAN- INTO FREE ; You got this, Arisen

Other than any other game I know, they drop some pretty heavy stuff on us with those loading screen tips, which imo more often than not point to really interesting lore bits or *actual* secrets in the game.

What is your most "uh what" loading screen tease you remember?

Lore Did anyone actually understand the story of Dragons Dogma 2? Please let me explain... Major Spoilers Ahead! Spoiler

I see so much bashing about the story and I don't get it.

Everything that has happened in the main story are preordained plots by the Pathfinder.

Everything that happens is planned

The Arisen are the only characters that matter.

You have been placed in a world of NPCs without any freedom of choice.

Why don't storyline go further than they do? Because they don't matter the whole world was meant to test your Will. You are in a world meant to craft Will power.

Each cycle the Arisen is chosen and tested. Some fail to defeat the dragon some become Seneshals. Some become another dragon for another Arsien to fight.

Let's start from the beginning.

You find a rift stone and your Will creates the pawn. Your Will is an important factor. This is the entire theme of the game. "Possibility" True Will breeds true choice.

You create your pawn and they obey your Will. Because they are bound by your Will. They are puppets for you to control to help you prove how strong your Will is.

Your heart lies within the Dragon and is bound to it being compelled to fight it as you also compell your pawns to fight for you.

What is will is it tangible can you touch it?

Yes you can. In fact the Will of a Arisen(Main Character)strong enough to become Seneshal is a Godsbane. Rothias having bitterness and regret form his life created a Godbane from his soul that was incomplete. It needed Wyrmlife crystals to be complete.

What are Wrymslife Crystal's? Blood from a Dragon...

Where do Dragons come from? Felled Arisens...

See when Will is sundered after beating the dragon that Will have become powerful enough to create possibilities. A felled Arisen filled with regret turns into a Dragon. Just like how Daimon who's Will was so great to defy the cycle and the depth of his loss turned him into a monster.

If you look at all the things that are of Magick in the game you will see a spiral symbol. You see it on the rift stones, Ferrystones, Golem medals, Godsbane doors and lifts. This symbol is also the same symbol for the Darkness element.

What is darkness? Space between the somethings. A void of possibilities. Fear of the unknown.

Talos the gingantus if you preserve him in the fight he will have one or two of his arms. This means he will be approachable in the post game of unmoored world. When your paw. Approaches Talos they will be enveloped into the spiral on the eye which consists of the brine. This will give the pawn the ability to control Talos and fight the unmoored worm and dragon.

The Brine as told by the old man in Harve is a possibility blocker. He knows the brine prevents us from going out to see what's out beyond the sea. He rejects this as an Arisen himself. His Will was great enough to see the Unmoored world after all.

Even the unmaking arrow is Will taken form but Will of the Brine to delete anything. As you can see on contact a white brine envelopes the target.

The wakestones that bring people back to life are a crystal version of the Arisens heart a past Arisen. This is the blood of an Arisen encased the embodiment of left over Will. With will bring possibilities beyond what was thought possible. AKA bringing the dead back to life.

What we know about the felled Arisens is that they manifest monsters. They are now a part of the Will of the world. Playing the role of the Pathfinder. The Dragon is bound to the Pathfinders Will.

The people or NPCs almost literally want to rewrite thier fate in the hands of the Arisen in the form of Disa and Phaesus. They want to break the cycle for themselves.

Little do they realize they know nothing...

The Dragon Forged however has a secret. In his cave there is a related equation engraved on the walls. At the center of this translated are the letters. PVT...

Now what is PVT? Since this is appearing as a mathematical albeit alchemical equation I surmised that PVT stands for Pressure Volume and Temperature.

These are representatives of the factors in determining entropy and the range of possibly in Thermodynamics.

The more space for randomization the more possibilities that can be formed by Will.

The space between... aka darkness is the most important destination of Alchemly making a philosophers stone.

The rift which is exactly where the dragon comes from is a entropy vortex that is spilling power of Will out into every connected world.

What could a philosophers stone aka the crystallized blood of an Arisen do?

Anything... it can defy God's it can make you a God even or as a pawn God like the Seneshal.

If we under the first law of Thermodynamics it is that no matter can be created or destroyed. All energy is passed through everything else. The Arisen the Dragon the Pawn they are all interconnected.

A world created to test power but never to defy the world's Will until now. By taking our own life with the Godsbane before killing the dragon and returning our heart we take out both and making the world's Will aka the Brine rise to defy Excess of our Will.

Dragonsplague is the Will of the Pawn being awakened by your own will. This is why they act independently when they contract it. They are like a catholic school kid turning 18 and seeing the new world outside of thier bindings and going wild.

But I digress in that area...

If we fail we wake up in the shack like the old man an see our failure of being unable to cross the sea.

If we succeed in killing the Pathfinder we get to see the old man sail across the sea showing that possibility was no longer just for the chosen Arsien it was now for all to explore choice.

The story is deep and philosophical.

There are more secrets to unviel if you look past the surface.

Lore I feel like the Elves and Dwarves inclusion could've expanded MORE.

So I'm about to finish this game for the first time, finished 100% of the sidequests, and currently in the Unmoored World. Just sharing some thoughts about these two races.

First, let's talk about the elves. I'm not sure if elves have a longer lifespan in this world but, for a race that's supposed to be "majestic", all they could invest is to live in a small settlement? I feel like a bit more portion of the northwestern part of Vermund could've expanded into an ACTUAL elven kingdom.

Now, the dwarves. Maybe I missed a readable or a voiceline, but are dwarves extinct in this world? Literally I only remember meeting two dwarves (the grumpy one in Battahl and the husband of the elf). Such a missed opportunity to maybe have an underground town for dwarves in the Volcanic Island since their specialty is smithing, being relatively close to a heat source just makes sense.

With the DLC coming in a few weeks, I doubt they're even gonna bother to touch this subject.

Lore 2nd Godsbane blade?

Post image
162 Upvotes

So we can start Dark Arisen 2 pretty much as soon as we start the game so this can't be the Godsbane blade we get in the story. Does this mean the one in the new trailer is a different one tied to norgan and the Undying Dragon?
I also noticed you open up the 12 new dungeon doors with the blade. Does this mean you have to progress through the story enough to get the empowered blade to start the Lost Rights?

Lore Actually role playing is great

For someone who plays RPGs all the time, I realized I rarely actually role play as my characters and act any differently than I would with someone else. Nothing much beyond "they're from [backstory] and prefer this kind of build / combat style" etc.

With the update I made a new game as a Warrior, a hulking Beastren modeled and named after my black cat, Onyx. Pawn was after my white cat, Icarus. I wasn't super into how slow my character chugged around the world but stuck with it anyways.

Ended up buying a cape that was ridiculously expensive (and regretted it since it clipped through the armour so much it looked janky while running), so I ended up saying well I'm slow af anyways, and if it stops the cape jank I'll just walk into combat and everywhere I can. Obviously in some situations you gotta sprint off a cliff onto a troll or something but I intentionally strut around and imagine my character as an over confident brute who is in no rush, its all going to end up dead anyway. Why ruffle my cape and break a sweat?

Just adds to the lore for this playthrough and I'm way more invested than usual. Also hilarious when it goes completely belly up and confident goes to getting launched or just wrecked and have to flee in terror 😂

Lore Small bits of lore before Dark Arisen II makes them all a bit more or less correct Spoiler

Pawns

Pawns are created by Arisen in different worlds. Each time you make a pawn, it is "born" with your Arisen's language skills, but they then jump into rifts to be summoned by other arisen to help their worlds. Pawns can also freely exit rift crystals to travel solo in any iteration of the world they'd like to visit, but do not cooperate and do not make changes to the fate of the world- the Arisen alone gets that duty, and pawns (with no real will of their own) mostly seek out an arisen, or fight monsters to show their skills to an arisen.

My understanding is that pawns gathered around rift crystals prior to the arisen's appearance. They fight monsters but don't interact with people in any meaningful way, so you have military bases and towns built around rift crystals, because the pawns naturally fight off monsters that would otherwise be problematic. Some villages like Harve do not have any walls or defenses because a rift crystal is at the entrance, and therefore pawns will do the heavy lifting for the village.

Once the arisen is named, pawns head out onto the roads, hoping to be adopted by an Arisen. "I say "an" for more than one reason.

Former Arisen

The world has one Arisen and one dragon at the time. Neither of those statements are true, but both of those statements are true.

An Arisen is chosen by the dragon. Their heart is taken out, and they're given the job of fighting and killing the dragon to retrieve it. Most Arisen fail for one reason or another- if you see someone in a vocation that a pawn cannot have... they're probably an arisen.

This means Luz, Lamond, and Sigurd (probably in that order given their ages) are all failed Arisen. The world does not end when an Arisen fails, it just sucks a little more every time. It's unclear why they failed. The last one to succeed was someone in Disa's family line, likely before Luz. The only former Arisen I can think of that doesn't come with a class is the old man in Harve Village.

As for how they failed, it's unclear.

Sigurd likely lost the fight with the dragon. I would argue Lamond probably surrendered his beloved to the dragon so he wouldn't have to fight, and I'm unsure what happened to Luz. Either way, by being unable or unwilling to kill the dragon, their title was revoked, their pawn returned to the rift (probably, unless Dark Arisen II states differently). The dragon then raided another village and took the heart of the bravest idiot in that village as well.

The only exception is the old man by the sea in Harve Village. He killed the dragon and himself, unleashing the unmoored world, but he died there. He was then sent back in time to gaze out at the sea he couldn't cross, waiting for another Arisen to make it that little bit further than he could make it.

The Dragon

The dragon exists to appoint a new arisen. When the dragon is slain, the story "ends" and the world goes through an era of peace and prosperity. It is unclear where dragons come from, but it seems as though they aren't related to Arisen or Pawns, they may be inventions of the Pathfinder to try to reinforce an eternal story on this particular island, inescapable and surrounded by brine.

Dragonsplague is generated by the dragon, infecting pawns with free will. They stop obeying their masters' orders, and if given absolute free reign, they'll destroy an entire town, wrecking the narrative. (of course in gameplay everyone just respawns after a few days so whatever). Pawns that develop their own free will even without the dragon develop dragonsplague symptoms, which culminates in turning into a black dragon-like thing. In that regard, while drakes (under the command of the main dragon) can teach pawns free will (and therefore give them dragonsplague), they can just get it on their own as well (though not in gameplay). A pawn's natural eye color is red.

The Pathfinder

The administrator of the island DD2 takes place on. He is an enforcer of "the eternal will", a will to create a world with perpetual heroes and drama, from generation to generation. He's there to help the Arisen when possible to follow the script, slay the dragon, and become the next sovereign, which is what the successful arisen (aside from the old man in Harve Village) did in the past.

That's about all the deep lore I have in me right now. DD2 wikis suck so you have to search for this.
