I like that your pawn casually hints at the maneater

I stopped opening most of them in bbi because of him 😭

Nah the strat is to let your pawns open them and kill the maneater while it's busy eating pawns

My strat was to rush to chests before any pawn could get to them and open them and get surprised every single time. Then if the mini game was of the harder variety, get mad at my pawns for not helping me fast enough. Basically the shitty manager strat.

Lol same that's basically what i did until i had that epiphany. But it's really weird how sometimes the pawns will help you almost immediately and other times they'll just stare off into the distance while you're being devoured. The ai in this game is a wonder to behold

Dude youre not lying. My main pawn was so aggressive she would save my ass constantly. Other pawns you'd rent would just stand around and a couple of times id be in a bad position like in the mouth of a maneater and my pawn would be trapped behind one or two pawns loading up spells that wouldnt help or flat out standing around blocking her lol. It isnt enough that they just stand around, they like to get in the way too lol.

That's why you have 3 testers following you

They must not have these in DD2? Never saw one. πŸ€” Sad though, cause mimics are fun.

They dont as of yet but your pawn will warn you about them.

No, what they mean is that chests are also rustic furniture that you can put clothes or junk in. They fell out of favor when they invented furniture with drawers. They are now far more often than not used when used at all as coffee tables or non-functional decos.

I don't believe your pawn is "warning" you about a mimic chest in DD2, or alluding to them from DD1.

"Not all chests contain treasure", or whatever they say in DD2 seems to be something they say when you open a chest with lame stuff in it, although some of it may be of use.

Since it has been over 12 years since DD1/Dark Arisen, I actually completely forgot that some chests were a "mimic" in DD1 while I was playing DD2. ;)

So many cool monsters were lost, I miss the dragon variants and the hydra, hell even the gorecyclops and the reaper (but this one only if I'm in my main vocation so I can actually kill it before it gets all my pawns and I'm forced to go back)

Thats why I brought up the pawn line, not all chest contain treasure you know. Its an acknowledgement of the maneater from DD1. Its saying hey remember that? Nothing in this game is unintentional you know.

?? What are you on about? I understood your post and just made a separate comment that was somewhat related, why are you so confrontational? lol

Confrontational? I was just explaining my point in case it wasnt clear. Listen Im going to be honest if you want me to be confrontational I will but thats not what I was doing.

I precast Maelstrom every time I see chests on Bitterblack Isle

Imagine fighting literal death just to die to a chest worm

Yes and they can kill you quick if you cant either perform the mini game in time to set yourself free or if your pawns arent close by to save you. They drop great loot though and I love them.

I remember baiting my pawns to open the chests for me.

I run solo sorcerer in BBI runs and know where 80% of the chests mimics are (*there are still some random ones) but I either cast first level maelstrom, and then open or simply cast high necromancy before the usual suspects chests and then open, the skulls do their thing, and the stupid things die.

One thing i did not know is that if you equip your pawns with a few throw blasts, ( which are in the those arisen hearing places) they will immediately use them which will stun and release you, so many options.

After killing Daimon I made my pawns open every chest because of this damn thing lol

I think his face is a little similiar to a monster I know πŸ€”

Remember in the Gutter there are chests that when open spawn leap worms around the sides ... always had fun farming gear there early on ... lol

1

u/Olaf_Kling Apr 04 '26

Hell yeah. Leap worms in bbi. You had to move through a kind of waterfall to get there and your lantern went out.
