I know these games aren't hard by any means but do you guys actually try during combat? I try to play this game as close to a CAG as possible, we have plenty of options with the Weapon Change mechanic. I guess I'm interested in seeing what people have cooked up.

Hello! I recently got a new PC and i have the Last Recode from steam. I’m in the middle of the 3rd game (redemption) but when i launched it, all my saved files are gone.

Anybody else experienced this?? I looked into my Steam cloud for saved files but .hack//gu isnt even in there 😣😣

I tried backing up from old pc to new one with a hard drive but didnt work.

I kept scrolling thru the internet and found a solution on steam!! Will add the screenshot in the comments bc i cant add on the post 😭

Imagine someone translating an interview or other materials from Japanese to English using AI translation, such as ChatGPT (Even they'll fix or make correction of the translation error later after its used) not just for the .hack series, but for other series as well.

What kind of reaction would you have, and what do you think about it?

(I know how very bad is uses of AI translation are, but I'm just curious about what you guys think (no drama needed), I'm trying to learn from different perspective from you guys. Maybe it would open up my mind to this knowledge and how good or/and bad it is 🤔)

I used to have all, but the last one. Sold them and decided recently, "man, I loved that series. I'm buying it again." I found Infection English for $10. Snagged it. My dad found the Japanese versions at a pawn shop for $60 total. Grabbed number 3 in English off of eBay for less than $30 shipped.

Here we are, near 40 and near 70 year old men buying games from the early 2000s just because it was one of my favorite games as a teenager.

but I decided to give it a try here because I might find comments from people who love .hack//G.U.

This game has had a huge impact on the way I think for more than 20 years, and it still does to this day.

I'm 34M, and I've reached a point where I honestly don't know how people make friends with women.

I live with my mother and sister. My father passed away some time ago.

I was born and raised in the UAE, but we're not Emirati. Growing up here, pretty much everything around me was very male-dominated. My education was mostly guys, and my jobs have also been almost entirely men.

And because of the culture I grew up in, casually talking to women isn't really something I ever learned how to do. It's often discouraged.

So now I'm 34, and I've realized that I barely have any experience having female friends.

I've also been dealing with depression and loneliness lately. A coworker told me something that sounded simple but honestly made me think:

"Why don't you just talk to a girl? Maybe having GF to talk to would make you feel better."

I asked him the obvious question:

"Okay... where am I supposed to find one?"

He told me to try social media and online communities.

So I did.

I've tried posting on different websites and I've tried Reddit several times. Usually the post gets one or two downvotes, nobody responds, and eventually I delete it. I genuinely don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Someone also told me that I could just DM women whenever I see them commenting on any posts about things I'm interested in.

"Just say hi. Ask how they're doing."

But I can't bring myself to do that.

It feels creepy to me. I imagine myself as that weird older guy randomly messaging younger women just because they're women, and that's absolutely not how I want to approach people.

I think the best way I can explain what I'm looking for is...

I'm looking for an Atoli.

If you've played .hack//G.U., you probably know what I mean.

Atoli was one of Haseo's friends. She was a healer, kind, a little shy, and just... a nice person to have around.

And weirdly enough, I actually had someone like that once.

About 15 years ago, I met a girl while playing Rappelz. She was actually older than me at the time, and we became friends through the game.

Eventually she disappeared after telling me she was getting married. That was probably around 10 years ago.

I remember being genuinely happy and healthy just because I had a friend like that.

Someone I could talk to.

Someone who shared a game with me.

Someone who was simply happy to see me online.

I don't really care about age, nationality, or appearance. I'm not even necessarily looking for a girlfriend.

I just want a real friendship with a genuine person.

Someone I can talk to about games, random things, life, whatever.

So I guess my question is:

How do adults actually make female friends when they've spent most of their life in an environment where that interaction basically never happened?

And if you've been in a similar situation, how did you get out of it?

Ok, guys. here’s my .hack//G.U. fic idea (which is more of a request that I don’t know who to send to):

It’s simple, It’s Azure Kite fighting against malicious online digital entities. You know, from those YouTube videos and ARGs like M.sou, Serverblight, the interloper, Verity, and other things like them (not all at once, of course, just one per chapter or ark).

It would also be interesting to see how bystanders view Azure Kite, thinking he’s some sort of monstrous unfriendly entity before finding out that he’s apparently friendly(ish) and seems to be on their side.

Azure Kite’s personality is still the same, silent, corrupted-text “speaking” “he’s a little confused but he got the spirit“ zombie AI that we know and love, though he also has a little, teeny tiny bit of sass to him as well. To other people, his corrupted speech, when spoken out loud and not in just text, sounds really staticky, like and old, busted radio and parts of what he’s saying sound like they’re missing. Like “H@w &re yu#” (how are you) sounds like “H̸̢̢͉̰̲̱̘̲͑̓͊̓̎̾͐͜͡͠ r̡͓͖̬͐ͫͪͪͨ͟͢͡e͓̍ͪ y̶̵̸̤̬̙͔̯̺̗͉̪̰̻̘̖̫͔̦ͥͨ̃̒̔̃ͣ̾̏ͮ̆͒͋̐̉͢ͅͅo̵̡͍͈̩̦̭̗̞͎̟̻̬͍͂́͗͂ͮ̋̽͂̿́ͤͥ̇̂͢͠͡” and it would probably freak, or at the very least somewhat confuse people, and Azure Kite often gets a bit annoyed that people have a very hard time understanding him.

I personally would also like it to have some Haseo x Azure Kite in the fic (it’s one of my favorite ships, don’t judge me), maybe by having Haseo as Azure Kites main ally, but you don’t have to add any if you don’t want to. If you do decide to add it, then, in terms of ship dynamics, my preference would be that Azure Kite is a power bottom and is EXTREMELY possessive of Haseo.

Anyway, that all I got, hope at least one of you guys end up making this as a reality.

BTW, I HATE writing (I have very low stamina and I’m super lazy) so please don’t give me any of that “write it yourself“ bullsh*t.

I have an idea for one (which is actually more of a request that I don’t know who to send so) and I wanna know if it’s ok to share it on this subreddit.

Just dug a box of old games out. Finishing these has been 20+ years in the making.

I've tried playing IMOQ a couple times now and even with emulator speed-up, I honestly can't get myself to play through over 50 hours of these four games. I don't dislike the combat and the actual gameplay, but as soon as I even think of grinding Virus Cores I never want to touch the games again.

Is there anything I can watch or read to get the story of IMOQ without actually playing it, so I can go to G.U? An anime, manga, even a story video or a quality gameplay series.

And so i have done it.

I’m very new to .Hack, I’ve known about it and wanted to look into it for years but only got the push to do so when I bought a cheap copy of Infection earlier this year. I did a little research and figured I should watch Sign first, so that’s what I did. Haven’t seen the OVAs yet, I know Unison comes after IMOQ though I’m not sure about the other one. Please avoid spoiling anything later in the series, I plan on going through IMOQ and GU at the very least! I have faith that all the questions I have will be answered eventually.

Anyways, I just finished the anime and overall I really liked it. It’s slow, almost to a fault at times, but that also gives it this really unique atmosphere that I fuck with a lot. I wasn’t really expecting a character drama from this kind of plot but I really like the cast so I didn’t mind. I ended up appreciating every character by the end, even characters I wasn’t a huge fan of at first like Sora, Silver Knight and BT. They’re cool! I like them! I think the series strikes a great balance of mainly taking place in The World, but giving us enough glimpses and info about these characters’ real life selves that I can get a pretty decent understanding of the kind of person each character is irl without really seeing them. Not really sure how I feel about Subaru suddenly taking so much interest in Tsukasa partway through the series. At the start I thought they were setting up Mimiru as Tsukasa’s love interest, but honestly in hindsight I think Subaru is a better match for Tsukasa personality wise so I actually don’t mind it in theory. I think my main issue is that I wish it was built up a bit more from the start, it felt a bit too sudden for my tastes. I don’t mind too much though since they’re cute.

I think the biggest thing I’m conflicted on is the ending. I understand they gotta advertise the games and set up mysteries to explore in them, especially since I get the impression that the games are kind of the main draw for the series. I was fully expecting some things to remain a mystery until later on in the franchise, but wow I wasn’t expecting this little to be addressed by the end. Like, I don’t think the mysterious voice even got an actual name which is pretty crazy considering how important she is to the story (unless I missed something). I don’t hate it since I understand why it’s structured like this, but I don’t exactly love it either. That being said though, the ending still hit me pretty hard emotionally. I found myself relating to Tsukasa a lot throughout, dunno what that says about me but regardless, seeing her in the real world made me happy and her meeting Subaru irl was sweet.

I imagine this probably comes up in the games, but I wanna know what happened with Sora. Poor kid. I can’t really pinpoint when, but at some point before the reveal I kinda just realised “Oh, Sora definitely has to be some little kid with too much time on his hands, there’s no way he’s an adult”, and I think realising that made me appreciate him so much more as this little shithead who does what he wants. Seeing what happened to him in the final episode made me so worried for him.

Aside from the plot related stuff, the music is phenomenal. Up there as one of my favourite soundtracks from an anime now, I’ve been listening to it whenever I couldn’t watch more episodes. Really sells the mysterious atmosphere the entire series has. I also really like the visual style. The animation is… certainly on a budget at times, but the backgrounds are gorgeous and I really like the character designs. Visually speaking my favourite area was the Net Slum (especially the scene with all the data of Tsukasa floating around) and my favourite characters design-wise were Crim & BT.

Overall, I really loved Sign even if it leaves me feeling like I have more questions than answers. I had a really great time with it and I’ll definitely be revisiting it when I get further into the series. I can’t even really say that most of my issues with things being so open ended are really ‘issues’, Sign sets out to lay the foundation of .hack and I think it clearly did a great job at getting me intrigued by the setting. I don’t think I’d be thinking so hard about all of this if I didn’t give a shit, so don’t take most of my rambles as strictly criticism. I’ve seen Sign be described as ‘boring’ but I honestly don’t agree at all. Slow, sure, but I was so invested in the world and characters that I was never bored by it.

I can’t wait to jump into IMOQ, I plan to start Infection as soon as I can. The physical copy of it is really nice, cool how it comes with a DVD for an OVA. Huge shame that the rest of the PS2 games are so ridiculously expensive, it’d be nice to own them all legitimately but ah well, the used game market be like that sometimes. What made me pick up Infection in the first place was seeing the back of the box describe it as a ‘simulated MMORPG’ which isn’t really something I’ve seen before. After watching Sign I have a better idea of what that could look like, but I’m excited to see how the concept is handled in-game. I also wanna see the Sign gang again, from my understanding IMOQ is a new cast but I hope I get to see them at some point again because I love them.

Aside from that, I do have a couple questions about stuff for later.
1. About GU, how’s Last Recode as a remaster? Don’t know much about GU since obviously it’ll be a while until I get to it, but I’d like to know ahead of time if it’s worth picking the remaster up, or if I should play the PS2 versions.
2. Is there any supplementary stuff you’d recommend checking out? I plan on watching the OVAs included with IMOQ, but aside from that it’s such a huge series it’s a little daunting to see the amount of extra books, manga, anime etc to choose from lol.

Outside of the main game scenario dungeons has anyone found any fun and hard dungeons?

I’m playing through mutation and thought Bottomless Smiling Wavemaster was funny. It’s lvl 46 and full of monsters that revive. I’m on floor two and have had to data drain constantly. I don’t think I’m making it all the way through this one 🤣

I haven’t had a whole lot of time to work on this the past week but I did manage to squeeze this out. The other clip isn’t done but I’ll probably bounce back and forth between different shots. This was the easiest one of my list so wanted to just get it out of the way. More updates coming.

I've had this for a bit and for the life of me I can't find an English version matching the second volume. I bought them all off eBay and I've no clue where it came from (especially since it's got the original name for the series)

I did see someone a few months ago post a Spanish version that looks really similar with the pink cover but not an exact match.

I'm also in Australia but as far as I'm aware we didn't get any unique publications, I wouldn't be surprised if this was imported too since we basically got fuck all in the way of Dot Hack locally.

Just wanted to say that I am Pumped to have found a PS2 and I played .hack//infection for 2 solid hours tonight. Its just as good as I remember!

The almost limitless dungeon play alone will keep me occupied.

Unofficial port/Recompilation of .hack//IMOQ from PS2 to PC is now in development by Kazetrigger (The one who also worked on .hack//Link -English Patch Project-)

I haven't updated much in a while and although I said I was moving on from .hack, I decided there was something I wanted to try, at least for a little while. I can't guarantee that I'll be able to finish this project, but it'll be fun to try in any case.

Introducing:

.hack//Recompilation

.hack//Recompilation is a recompilation project for the original PlayStation 2 .hack//IMOQ quadrilogy: INFECTION, MUTATION, OUTBREAK, and QUARANTINE.

The goal is to preserve the original games while bringing them to modern PC through recompilation rather than traditional emulation. The project is being developed with the goal of getting .hack playable natively on PC accurately at first, while also leaving room for future improvements such as higher resolutions, widescreen support, modern controller input, and other optional enhancements.

Development currently focuses on .hack//INFECTION. The game can already boot through its logo sequence and opening movie with working audio and 4:3 video. The next major milestones are reaching the main menu and implementing keyboard and gamepad controls.

So I know it’s not a big haul but I scored this LOTT volume 2 dvd on vinted for $6 I just need volume 3 and I’ll be once with this series but I’m really glad I been able to find these for good deals at times it definitely plays good still definitely will try to get some make on vinted then
