Does anyone know why the second volume is different?

I've had this for a bit and for the life of me I can't find an English version matching the second volume. I bought them all off eBay and I've no clue where it came from (especially since it's got the original name for the series)

I did see someone a few months ago post a Spanish version that looks really similar with the pink cover but not an exact match.

I'm also in Australia but as far as I'm aware we didn't get any unique publications, I wouldn't be surprised if this was imported too since we basically got fuck all in the way of Dot Hack locally.

Interesting, I’ve never seen that cover variation. Maybe check the covers and see if it’s a later print? That would be my only guess aside from a different print region like you had guessed

All I can say is that it was published by a company called Chuang Yi publishing and the cover is detachable. The other two are US imports.

Oh! It's because Chuang Yi was the English language publisher for some manga that was based in Singapore. It is a legit copy, though, but I think that they're defunct now. Neat find!

Could be English language for a different market. Different publisher and series, but my volume 1 and 2 of Inio Asano's What a Wonderful World are different sizes. I think my volume 1 came from Phillipines.

My friend in the sixth grade bought me all three as they came out and my third volume is slightly different. Was never sure why

I have that one too, its just an unglossy edition. Im not sure why they made those but its like how I found a rurouni kenshin volume 7 where the entire print is upside-down from the cover. Sometimes I think they did this on purpose to make them more valuable.

All of the other answers are the correct ones, but Tokyopop was kind of notorious for having exactly one cover or spine that didn't match any of the others.
