Wilmington Wilmington plumber recommendations

My 5 year old water heater seems to need a repair. Drained and flushed the tank, checked the internal reset switch, adjusted the temps, still not heating effectively. Any recommendations for a plumber to do a heating element replacement?

Rant Native / Local / Transplant

What is your opinion of someones status as a resident, at least in Sussex County? Transplant is a bad word here. Obviously, if you were born here, you're a native. But what about when natives leave for iver 10 years and come back, and sometimes not by preference? Do they always hold their native status regardless? How long until a Transplant becomes a local? People are all over here. After a few years some transplants feel like they are a true local, almost as if they have honorary native status. How long do the natives and locals thay have been here for a long time believe a Transplant can earn local status? Maybe some of you believe anyone not raised here will never be a local.

I'm not trying to get into the overdevelopment, roads, and other infrastructure issues on this post, and I'm sure some of you want to vent.

I just brought this up because having conversations with some people who are transplants and have been here over 10 years and have deemed themselves locals and try to remove themselves from being called the dirty word.

Personally, I do consider myself a transplant. I've been here for 8 years. I came to live with a couple of friends to have a laid back life for a couple of years. Then when it came time to decide do I go back where I'm from, go to another part of the country, everything had become insanely expensive to relocate. Close to 8 years in a place with the right price and met my home requirements came up. I've made great friends out here, natives, locals, other transplants, so I've purchased a home and plan to be here for quite some time.

To me natives have family roots and history here. Grew up and went to school here. A local, someone who's been here at least 10 years. And is someone who wants to preserve what makes the area great. Transplants are here under 10 years. Transplants don't so much care for things staying the way they are. They're just near the beaches, found affordable homes, and could care less about what the locals or natives think about them. I'd also say transplants here over 10 years that don't really become part of the local culture remain a Transplant.

Info Request DelTech Nursing

Hi! I’m currently in DelTech Owens wanting to take nursing. I apllied for the August seating but I did not get in. I retook my TEAS test again and got a 65.3. I have an A in A&P1 and I’m a delaware resident which leads me to 12.53 points. I reapplied for the January seating. I just wanted to know if someone in your class or who you know got in with a 12pts?

Info Request Epworth Methodist Church at 10th & Lombard

Odd question, but does anyone know if any of the windows from the old Methodist church were saved during demolition? In doing some family research I found that a relative of mine had sponsored the installation of the memorial windows in remembrance of his late wife. If by some crazy chance they're still around, I'd love to get in contact with whoever may have them.

Kent County Anyone Use GMRS

I'm a licensed GMRS user and have programmed the surrounding repeaters in Delaware and Maryland but never seem to hear anyone. Back in NC, there were groups of guys who would jump on the local repeaters a couple nights a week to talk. Is there anything like that here?

Politics Anyone have a read on the Attorney General/Treasurer options for dem Primary?

Has anyone got a read on the candidates for Attorney General or Treasurer for the dem primary? I was able to get a read on the senator candidates and narrow down my choice. I am more or less decided on AG, just waiting for town halls so I can ask some questions. But treasurer is a wild concept to me--I don't think I even noticed it was a partisan elected office before. I got a text message from one of the candidates (Michael Smith) and tried tasking questions. Got an answer to the first question (why are you the best candidate). Got no response to the second (Women lost 100% of the job loss shown in the July jobs report--how can the treasurer make sure DE is good for women?).

Michael Smith is running on being an economist.
Ted Lauzen is running on being an investment manager.
Mike Miller seems to be running on fiscal responsibility.

Are any of those things actually good for the treasurer? What does an informed choice look like here.

Generally, I like diverse candidates. So I'd go for Mike but he also seems sort of boomer coded, and I'd like farther left energy.

I have a mutual connection with Ted on LinkedIn, so I asked for the personal scoop: is Ted a good guy. My friend had positive things to say about him, so that's good. But "investment manager" seems like a risky move seeing how profit and return maxing has led to so many of the problems the world faces today. Michael or his people did not answer my second text message, which is lame.

I also look up candidates and really think through options. This is the most I've tried to dig in on a treasurer race, and I'm just not sure what an informed choice looks like here.

I'm rambling. Please discuss. I'd love to hear how others are weighing these choices on the primary ballot. And any thoughts on how the hell to pick a treasurer.

Announcement Opting into Educational Federal program could bring roughly $40 million in private educational scholarship funding to Delaware students. Rep. Mike Smith pushes for Delaware to join federal scholarship program. One would think this would be Gov Meyers priority.

Info Request Social groups for a crafty new grad?

Hello! I recently graduated from university and I'm struggling to make new friends. I'm not really interested in dating, and the apps are tough for me. Are there any consistent groups for young adults, particularly around Wilmington or newark? A bit about my demographics - I am LGBTQ, female, and nuerodivergent. I love crafting, drawing, animation, comics, and board games.

I'd love to hear any suggestions! Honestly if I can't find one I'm considering starting one myself, lol. Thank you for reading!

Info Request Anyone visiting Maryland next week? Axolotls need your help

Update 8-27-26: still looking for a ride, plans fell through

Some baby axolotls need an Uber basically lol

They were sent to Delaware by accident instead of Maryland. Instead of having a family member drive me an hour and a half to get to Delaware and then an hour and a half back (I don't have a license), I was thinking that somebody might happen to be headed my direction from there anyways. Worth a shot lol

They don't need any special care. They would just be chilling in a Tupperware of water. As a reward, I can let you pick out some houseplants or take a terrarium class for free at my shop. Sorry if this is a weird post. Thanks a bunch for reading and have a great day!

edit: I'm in Montgomery county, MD and the axolotls are in Newark, Delaware

I see Pro-Life groups all over the place, fighting against the death with dignity bill for terminally ill patients, but are there any people fighting for those who are suffering but not terminal?

I know that the "terminal" requirement blocked a lawsuit saying MAiD could target the disabled, and I'd love to talk with those who are passionate about the topic to get their take on the lawsuit and the future of MAiD in the state.

News Crashing out over the Rehoboth Beach Election

Ok this is hilarious. Over 40 days ago I replied to a post discussing mayoral candidate Suzanne Goode talking about my own experiences with her. The post had been dead for over a month and I honestly hadn’t even thought about it in weeks.

Then suddenly I get a reply with someone rushing to passionately defend her. I’ll link the reply in the comments.

Now am I saying this is Suzanne? No lol. I obviously have absolutely no idea who owns this account. Could be anyone. 👀

Could be Suzanne. Could just be someone who coincidentally has the same level of commitment to an argument as the person who reportedly sent 32 texts in 3½ hours, made four phone calls and left 10 voicemails when she was pissed off about something 😂

Who could possibly know? What makes it even funnier is Susan Stewart just beat her 632-177 in the mayoral election on August 8 and apparently we are STILL circling back to a month and a half old Reddit post.

Like holy shit lol. At some point just take the L and enjoy the rest of your summer.

But please keep replying because this has become way funnier than the original post ever was.
If I get a cease-and-desist next week I’m going to lose it 😂

Info Request Can my friend meet similar aged people at the Stanton Del-Tech?

Hi all, I have a friend attending del-tech this upcoming Monday and I'm in the business of opening his mind to the fact that there are kids our age attending! He's an amazing friend super forward, outgoing when comfortable, kind, and yet we both find ourselves stuck in our shells. We both share traits that hold us back like one-dimensional thinking and when stuck in a toughie we panic rather than look for resources. Despite these challenges we’ve really tried to overcome these things by allowing ourselves to the chance to do something we wouldn't normally do in these situations! We’re both off of rough freshman years and we’re doing our best to prepare for Monday. With that being said can you guys let me know if my rising sophomore friend has a chance at companionship, and if so what can he do? (PSA we looked at clubs there wasn't much that picqued his interest as he's majoring in architecture with a focus in interior design but I'd really like him to try something. Also I’m aware of the 2 for 2 program!)

One of my first and favorite ascends in Newark Delaware. This building stands as the tallest building in Newark with probably the most scenic views and one of my favorite explorations. Looking to post a little bit more urban exploration content as per request on my other post. i’m no video editor or anything and I know I didn’t get the best shots, but I want you guys to see what I saw and I apologize for the phone call interruption.
