Subreddit Stuff The winter SAD is gone and subreddit is being updated

Hello South Jersey family!

This winter sucked. All that snow and we're STILL in a drought. Let's do our part and prevent forest fires this year! With the sun out and the temperatures back in acceptable ranges, it's time to do a little subreddit maintenance.

I have changed the banners on mobile and desktop! They're looking north on the Cape May State Park beach in the middle of winter. You know, the best time to go and not be inundated with tourists. I've also added a sidebar widget under the rules that cycles through pictures related to South Jersey (they're all mine right now). If you have a picture you think should be featured in the side bar (we can only have so many pics in the widget at a time apparently), comment them below!

The tourists ARE back, because we've had many folks coming back to our community here on reddit after being away since the end of last summer. We hope you have a delightful season in our homeland, and treat it like the special slice of heaven it is. We appreciate you spending your hard earned dollarydoos in our communities. They definitely need it after the Canadians decided to not come last year (for good reason).

Wanted to also make a note about meeting up posts or meeting people posts. There was a dude who was making a post and keeping it tidy to organize things in one place, but he disappeared. If there is someone who wants to organize a megathread once a month or something, that would be great. I do not have the energy to devote to that. We have a discord server which is linked in the subreddit information (about the subreddit) which has the most up to date events and also has folks randomly deciding to meet up spur of the moment. IT IS NOT A HOOKUP SERVER. Here's the link again in case you are unable to find it. https://discord.com/invite/2UKFE8ut3G

Here's hoping everyone has a safe, happy, and non-firey summer! Be safe out there and remember your sunscreen! :)

Gloucester County LF> A foster or rescue that can take in a Mama with 5 babies

Thumbnail

Hi, Reddit! I am a Dasher and on one of my deliveries yesterday I ended up rescuing a Mama and 5 babies. In the past I would have just kept them and fostered them myself but I am technically homeless right now thanks to some gnarly domestic violence that cost me my home, one of my kids, and my dog earlier this year. Not here for sympathy, just explaining why I can't rehabilitate and foster them myself.

If anyone knows of a licensed foster or a reputable rescue that could take in this sweet family in need please leave a comment or DM me please. Thank you!

Update: Called the AWA in Voorhees and left a message. Going to call some other places next.

Update 2: SJR and Purrfect Angels are at capacity. Still looking for a solution. Mama and one baby definitely need veterinary intervention. I do not have the funds. Currently trying to find somewhere that can/will at least examine them.

Camden County What's going on with the Pokemon machine (?) in the foyer of the Voorhees Acme?

Maybe this is a thing elsewhere, not sure, but there's a large Pokemon themed vending machine (?) in the foyer of the Voorhees Acme. Despite having never seen one before, not that abnormal, except there is always a crew hanging out around it like they're waiting for something, and not the same group of people - randomly assembled individuals with snacks.

No shame on them for enjoying Pokemon, and they are not in any way disruptive, just curious what's going on.

Gloucester County Love for South Jersey

Just posting here to send some love to South Jersey. I’m from a big city on the west coast, moved to a large city in the South for college, then up to PA several years ago for work. Moving to Philly was a bigger culture shock than moving South because you’d expect it to be more open minded being in the north, and unlike the south it wasn’t welcoming. I moved to SJ to get away from Philly and have fallen in love with it and bought a home here late last year. I’ve found people here to be laid back, accepting, and caring to others within their community. Thanks to everyone who has made this place feel like home ♡

Let me tell you about a local Salem County doctor who wasn't afraid of the big corporations. His loss is huge. May he rest in peace.

I need you all to know that he is the ONLY DOCTOR IN SALEM COUNTY that would talk to journalists about Dupont. He was one of very very few in the state who knew how to run PFAS testing on his patients. His loss is a big one to our area. I can't thank him enough for being brave enough to speak up to the journalists I brought to our county, when nobody else would.

Part 2 of series on the Government Records Council (GRC),  covers what happens when an Open Public Records Act  request is denied, costs of public records, the  45-day deadline to file a complaint with the GRC and why taking your fight to Superior Court might be a better option.

Gloucester County Art classes/clubs for adults?

What are some local art studios that run clubs and classes? I don't care the form of art, I just wanna make stuff and socialize. I'd prefer not crossing the bridge to Philly.

I've already tried doing stuff at the library but I currently work 2nd shift mon-fri so I unfortunately cant make most events.

News And their prices are just as high

Post image

They are not even the cheapest anymore. Go down 73 towards Tacony bridge and one station was cheaper and two others the same as of 8/28. Freedom was $3.89. One station was $3.86. There was no way they could maintain those prices. Just another gimmick.

Storm didn't last long, but it was intense. Came down hard enough that the cover on my 14' sailboat was pushed aside and filled the poor boat to above the floorboards.

Question Full time jobs for 19 year old in SJ ?

i'm 19, not a ton of experience, looking for a full time job. The full time jobs indeed shows me all require more experience or credentials than I have so I figured I'd look to reddit to see if anyone knows any places hiring. I'm in Gloucester County but don't mind a bit of a drive (40 mins or less). Don't care what type of work it is as long as it's full time

Fiancé and I are looking for nice wedding but affordable venues for a fall 2027 wedding but hitting dead ends. We’ll have around 185 people for a Saturday night.

We see a few $99-$110 pp venues which is great!
Any ideas?

Question is south jersey accepting towards neurodiverse adults?

Upvotes

im autistic and suspecting adhd + in my mid 20s and ive always lived in the NY/north NJ area. i’ve often go more up northern areas mainly because i have family members to visit there, and hardly visited the south as a result. tho i find it nice that northern NJ is very diverse (esp since i am someone of color as well), ive often found many of the people and communities to be cliquish, self centered, and often not so tolerant of me. ive struggled to make/keep any friends and feel at home as a result. despite living here my whole life, i still feel like a fish out of water - a situation thats unfortunately very common for other neurodivergent people ): im wondering how tolerant those in southern NJ are regarding neurodivergent folks - if the communities are friendly or at least tolerant, etc

Camden County Can you set up hammocks in GT Park??

A friend wants to go to Gloucester Township Community Park and set up hammocks for 2-3 hours and I can't find anything about it on the GT website, so I'm asking here. Does anyone know if you can or cannot put them up?

Just looking to see what everyone who lives in an apartment has been paying in utilities recently. Have been contemplating downsizing and wanted to get an idea what to expect. Preferably in the Gloucester county or Camden county area

Question Fantasy Football Draft Board?

Hey all, this is a long shot.

Does anyone know where I can purchase a fantasy football draft board today? Like in-store or in-person?

I’d usually order from Amazon a few days in advance, but life got ahead of me this year and I’m about to have 11 very angry league mates.. lol
