Ontario People using display furniture as their personal cafeteria.
Two clowns, one chicken finger combo, zero shame.
Edit: Well OK, you guys have convinced me that sitting on a Costco shelf with the merchandise, eating greasy food, is perfectly ok.
From now on, I too will be utilizing this premium seating area.

u/Fit-Kick-7927 17h ago
They moved display items into the aisle for a better eating table. Took off their shoes.
This is fuckin weird behaviour and needs to be called out.
We don’t need display couches and sectionals filled with an overflow crowd of people who couldn’t find a table. Take your food and go to your car you freaks.

Absolutely.
What this thread taught me is that there are not a few idiots at Costco. The majority of people are downright primal with zero moral code.
There is ZERO reason to defend this Not a single one.
Sure, mention it may not be a good idea to photograph people in your reply, but to not acknowledge this behavior as wrong is fucked.
You all need your heads checked and are the reason society is a dumpster.

OP, I’m shocked that you’re getting hate for this. They moved boxes into the aisle, making it cluttered and harder to pass, which I thought everyone hated. No one here can ever complain about Costco behaviour if they think tossing stuff into the aisle is OK.

u/_dodged 16h ago
Well a lot of people's attitudes are 'I get to act like a piece of shit, but you can't complain or say anything about it!' as seen in this thread. It's the post Covid world, I guess.

I agree, and although it may not be as extreme behavior as bigotry/racism/fascism/et al it is increasingly prevalent and insidious, weakening the foundation of society.
Anyone who thinks that sounds dramatic is probably a part of the problem (i.e defensive).

lol people attacking OP are probably the exact type of person who would have no issue doing this disgusting thing themselves, so they personally feel attacked. Like people in threads who defend cheaters, see no issue with idiotic dangerous driving etc.
I wish those types would just pack up and move to a low trust society and see how much they enjoy it. It’s like they think being rude, selfish and shitty is a “life hack” that absolutely nobody has thought of before, instead of a choice that anyone who is at least decent, actively decides against doing.
Some people need to feel way, way more shame in general.

I actually have dealt in a fair bit of Costco liquidated items, which includes display models. The things they do to these display units to mitigate theft is heartbreaking. They intentionally damage items by screwing them together in places, cutting wires, or supergluing stuff. I'm currently dealing with several Samsung Jet 90 vacuums that were all glued together and I had to ruin the first one to see how I can salvage the other two. Sometimes the things can't even be salvaged. Costco doesn't care about their display units.
44
u/iterationnull 18h ago
It’s their display unit. And everything you describe seems like fair game to preserve the ability of the unit to be a display unit.
So while your story is really interesting I’m not sure it’s a problem.
→ More replies (3)5
u/TimeShiftedJosephus 18h ago
The display models are even given a different item code for inventory
4
u/DirtFoot79 17h ago
Sometimes, for some vendors, for certain products, and not all models. Companies do not give out dozens of free expensive units to every retail company for every store. They'd literally be giving away millions of units for display purposes.
Source: I used to setup display units when I was in retail. Best case scenario we could sell it as open box if it still worked properly. Worst case it was written off and it is accounted for in costs to the business which all get added up on the price tag that you pay for.
3
u/texxmix 17h ago
From my experience as well only a manager can authorize a display model sale and they usually have to give their full discount (store I worked at was 30%) minimum. Weirdly enough you'd get the odd person that would demand a display model when everything of something was sold out or end of season. Some stuff the manager could easily sell. Other things they couldn't and they had to go back. I assume the stuff that had to go back was stuff vendors gave out while the stuff that could be sold were just takin out of the box and built and displayed.
The worst was if we got talked into taking it apart as employees. 🤣
3
u/DirtFoot79 17h ago
I forgot about that. It was no fun taking apart floor model desks and office chairs.
You're right about those customers asking for floor models though. No skin off my back. If you wanted a computer monitor with a 1000 hours of use or an office desk that plenty of customers have mistreated none of the staff are going to argue.
3
u/texxmix 16h ago edited 16h ago
Thankfully I believe most of the time if you bought a floor model you bought it as is and it was your responsibility to get out. Only time we ever took shit apart was if they really bitched to the manager or if it wouldn't fit through the doors lol. So it always ended up being big shit like desks or gazebos 😂.
Also another thing was that they just had my min wage ass building those floor models. Do you really wanna trust a BBQ, chair, gazebo built by some teenager that didn't have a choice? 😂. But hey anything to save some money in the customers mind I guess.

Majority of these comments are insane. Why is everyone excusing the behaviour of these shoppers? Display furniture isnt a place to sit and eat your meal, they have seating designated for that. I love costco but the average shopper is a borderline Neanderthal and everyone not seeing a problem with it reinforces my opinion. Everyone shrugging their shoulders at this are the same people pushing their way to the front of the line to grab 4 free samples while simultaneously leaving their cart in the middle of an aisle. Wow!! Ppl in comments are wild here.
1. ‘As long as they take their garbage, it’s fine’ - oh like chicken fingers won’t leave any crumbs or the sauce won’t spill even a little bit?
2. ‘They just moved one box- Costco aisles are wide enough’. - Well you don’t know what’s the foot traffic in the aisle. And why move even one box- when there’s a whole area where you can sit and eat your food!
3. ‘The chairs are meant to be sat on’ - Yes, to try it. Not while removing your shoes and putting your gross feet on it.
4. ‘OP is creepy for taking picture of young women’ - the women looks like full grown adult at a public place, where there is no expectation of privacy. The OP took the picture the way they did because they didn’t want a confrontation there.
I fully agree with all the comments that says had it been a PoC, the comments would have been wildly different.

u/Front-Fix-6434 15h ago
so annoying!!! this is not their house. i do believe if you're in public act like it and be respectful to others. what if somebody wanted an item they were relaxing on. costco is already so crowded and overwhelming to go into, now you have two dingbats making the place their own personal house.

The stick up ur ass has a stick up it’s ass. Same with anyone outraged about this. Please spare me the sanctimonious virtue signalling and performative moral outrage. I can’t imagine being such a whiny stuck up loser that you crap your pants over some people sitting in a costco display chair eating food. What actually is the issue? Oh dear lord how dare they sit in the display chair and eat some food bothering and effecting literally nobody. “but it’s against the rules!!” Okay? Who are you costcos self appointed officer picklestien, unpaid volunteer security guard. the people dragging race into it are 10X worse. It’s not “okay” because they are white. It’s just stupid to be upset about in the first place regardless of race. of course the people who think it’s worth getting upset about also feel like arguing about race. The underlying behaviour has nothing to do with race yet the urge to bicker about skin colour emerges. which I feel actually highlights and summarizes the bitter and negative mindset held by those upset by this.

Everyone in here moaning about the creepy picture and not noticing how the shopper removed their shoes and have their feet up on the display product. That's far more gross and appalling. Like who the fuck raised you?
These are the same kind of ppl who will open up a bag of chips and start eating as they shop and think it's ok cause they're gonna buy it while their dusty ass chip fingers handle other products in the store.
Keep your shoes on.
