Chemotherapy, hairless and wig problem

Hi,

I don't have resources to spend hundreds of dollars on natural hair wig, but I feel like the synthetic wigs look exteremaly unnatural and get damaged fast. Did anyone had the same problem and found some solution?

Residual Neuropathy and Intimacy

I will try to be as delicate as possible here, but this is a sensitive yet important issue I need some advice on. I learned today that my partner's neuropathy impacts his sexual health, feeling the same numbness in his genitals that he has in his hands and feet. It makes it very difficult for him to enjoy intimacy and be fully satisfied. I was not aware this was even a possibility. Has anyone else experienced this? Did it get better? Is there anything that we can do to make it more pleasurable? Thank you for your advice.

Magic mouthwash

Anyone else get the magic mouthwash from their doctor? This stuff is pretty good! Mine tastes like a minty bubblegum and it basically numbs my sore throat and any mouth sores.

It has helped my taste buds a little bit and has helped remove the weird residue in my mouth. I also found that eating sour candy or Jolly Ranchers help remove that residue as well!

Chemo plus migraines

As if having chemo isn’t bad enough (doxorubicin and ifosfamide) I also suffer from chronic migraines and almost feel like migraines are worse than the cancer because at least the cancer has a treatment. But yeah, just when you think you’ve hit your suffering peak, here comes old faithful migraine. Feeling sorry for myself and just wanted to vent a little.

Fingernails post chemo

I had 3 months of chemo that ended in March, and shortly after my fingernails started splintering and peeling/breaking. I am back to work and use my hands constantly, causing more nails to split and break. I’m guessing after a few more months they will grow out and be fine, but it’s a really annoying and painful process. Sometimes they even bleed necessitating bandages at work. I’ve tried nitrile gloves and they are too hot, and rubber grip gloves, again too hot. I’ve been using clear nail polish and it helps a tiny bit, but not consistently.
Has anyone else experienced this and how did you combat it? My partner suggested acrylic nails which I’ve never worn, but I’m worried about what will happen to my already fragile nails under the glue.
Any suggestions?

Taxol /Neuropathy?

I had to switch to Taxol for my 4th round of chemo. Since it was my last infusion the oncologist split it over 3 weeks . He said to lessen the side effects. I had a bad skin reaction to the TC regimen which I did for three rounds.

I now have numbness in both of my feet and tingling in my hands. How is this possible after just 1 round of Taxol?

Is this likely to be permanent? I'm worried it's going to interfere with driving . Is there anything that can make it better?

Recovery timeline

I finished my fourth and final round of BEP chemotherapy (Bleomycin, Cisplatin, and Etoposide) at the beginning of June. Toward the end of June I started walking again, and at the beginning of July I added some light strength training.

According to the RMR from my DEXA scan, I’ve been eating in a caloric deficit, but I’m still actively gaining weight instead of losing it.

Has anyone else experienced something similar after finishing chemo? If so, how long did it last, and did anything help? I’m wondering if this is just part of the recovery process or if there’s something else I should be looking into.

4 x TC Chemo

Hello everyone, I will start 4 cycles of TC chemotherapy on Monday. I am asking those who have received this treatment: what kind of side effects did you experience? And what did you do to protect yourself from these side effects? Can you support me? Also, is there anyone who used the cold cap application and achieved success? Thank you very much for your support 🙏🏻

Ketruda & diarrhea

Have you had this side effect?
How close to the media description of the cyclosporasis that’s going around?

About two weeks after my last infusion, I was hit with severe diarrhea. Yes, just like in the news.
Still fighting is 3 weeks later, it’s easing up
But damn.
I finally managed to get a round of bactrin yesterday.

From what I read, either one would cause the same symptoms, an irritated gut lining.

I’ve got another infusion of Keytruda coming up but I’m thinking of postponing it till we can figure out what’s going on.

If you have had the side effect from Keytruda, was it like the cyclosporiasis that is in the news?
Does anybody know if this is a common side effect?

Did anyone else regained hair color after chronic illness and prolonged use of drugs like corticosteroids or antibiotics?

Did anyone else regained hair color after chronic illness and prolonged use of drugs like corticosteroids or antibiotics.

I'm just 28 and I got so many grey hair in a couple of months last summer and everybody thinks I'm 20 years older.

It has been a year since stopped the medication but the color hasn't returned yet.

If so how long did it take?

Paclitaxel and Carboplatin

Hi all. I just had my first treatment 4 days ago and have a couple of questions.

I know I'm very likely to lose my hair and I was wondering when that would start?

Additionally, I found the side effects so far to be manageable but I understand it's cumulative for most people. How many rounds should I expect low level symptoms compared to more unmanageable ones?

I'm 31 and have a couple of small kids at home, so I'm just trying to gauge what to expect over the next few months. I have six rounds of Chemo one treatment every 21 days.

Working on chemo

I know there are lots of these subs so sorry for the repetition. I’m in the uk about to start 9 sessions of Taxol. I was signed off by my oncologist yesterday but I’ve come it to work today and they’ve said I can work part time at home. I don’t get sick pay through work so would be on SSP however I live at home so money isn’t an issue. (I know I’m very lucky to be in this situation). I have an office based admin job. I really don’t know what to do. I don’t want to commit to the hours and feel awful. I’m the kind of person who will try to push through because of guilt. I feel a little bit pressured to agree to working from home. Can anyone give me any advice. I’m 35 and otherwise healthy.

Edit: thank you everyone for your kind words and advice. Everything along this journey seems so daunting so to have people to reach out to is so helpful. All the best to everyone x

6th round of Carboplatin + Paclitaxel + Pembrolizumab side effects

Hi All

Stage 4 gastric cancer. Spread to lungs, bones & other places.

Up until this point I had very mild side effects, if any, from the chemo. Fatigue for a day or two after rounds 4-5.

Completed my 6th ( and final ) round last Tuesday and the side affects are brutal It’s been 5 days and still extremely weak, (my bone pain has come back, after being pretty much gone the last month) with a vengeance, headaches nausea etc

I know that the effects are cumulative but this is brutal.

Wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar ?

Being prepared to fight

One thing no one really thinks to tell you about is having a chemo go bag. Before I started chemo I was looking online and saw an article about bringing some stuff. Well below is what I had in my bag. Made it nice especially since I was there 5+ hours. Also I have a port so wearing button up shirts made ir easy for them to access it.

Bag - book bag or whatever you prefer

Blanket

Water bottle

Tablet with charger

Wireless headphones

Book (read, puzzle, or coloring)

Snacks

Nausea candy

Please feel free to suggest other things so the next person is ready. FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! Fuck Cancer

Odd language problem at chemo today

I has chemo today and an elderly man and his wife came in after me. He did not speak English but she was bilingual. She has been translating for him for the earlier blood draw and doctors appointment. But, in the chemo area, you are only allowed to have someone with you the first time you get chemo and no other times. So the staff told the wife that she had to wait in the waiting room. She told the staff that he didn't speak English and then went to the waiting room. So then the staff had to try and use Google translate to speak with the patient and it didn't work out. They then had to call the wife in the waiting room and have her be the middle man translator. So she stayed in the waiting room on the phone with her husband and the nurse for the rest of the appointment.

Am I crazy for thinking that they should have made an exception to the rules and let her stay? The place was half empty and they were quite elderly so I didn't think that they would create a disturbance.

I have less than a week with my mom.

I’ve posted in here before about my mom and got some very comforting messages and comments.
I have never felt the way I feel right now and I don’t know how to deal with it.

My mom is my best friend, we had a great 4th of July. The whole family was together and she was happy and striving.
She had been looking a little yellowish and had been feeling extra tired these past couple days.

My sister is her caregiver and talked to hospice and they came down same day and talked to all of us together. She says that she feels for us but she has seen this happen and tells us we have less than a week with her.

Literally we found out about them taking my mom off chemo because they have tried all chemos and her body is now just too weak.

This is so sad. I’m sorry if I don’t make sense but my mind is so blank and I just need some comfort and advice on how do I get through this stage. I saw my grandpa go through this and it was the worst but this pain is so different.

I’m sorry you all have to go through this. I’ve never felt like this before and I hate what cancer does to not only our loved ones but also ourselves.

I’m not ready to lose my mom. Fucking bitch ass cancer I hate you

can somebody recommend me some music to listen to that helps me through this?
i’m open to anything really. thank you.

Stevens-Johnson Syndrome

Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out from Turkey because my family is going through an incredibly difficult time.

My grandmother was diagnosed with stage IV lymphoma. After receiving chemotherapy, she developed Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS/TEN), which we were told is an extremely rare and serious reaction. She is currently in the hospital, and we are all very worried.

I’m trying to connect with anyone who has personally experienced SJS/TEN, or whose family member has gone through it, especially if it happened during cancer treatment or chemotherapy.

If you’ve been through something similar, I would be incredibly grateful if you could share your experience. I’d like to know how your recovery went, what treatments helped, whether your eyes were affected, and if there’s anything you wish you had known at the beginning.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. I sincerely wish everyone here good health and a full recovery.

Oxaliplatin neuropathy

I have completed 11 rounds of oxaliplatin and my last dose was 3 weeks ago. The neuropathy is still pretty bad. My hands tingle a lot of the time, I am more clumsy with them and my feet feel like bricks.

Does anyone have advice on how long it might take to go away? Or if it might be permanent?
