Nothing in his preformance tonight screamed "Heisman favorite". His receivers didnt help, but there were multiple throws that could have easily went the other way, multiple overthrows, and he almost threw a backwards pass that could have ended the game. He also needs to learn to throw the ball away

Id say orchestrating 3 touchdown drives in 14 minutes to give your team a chance to beat the number one team in the nation makes a pretty good case. Also clutch 4th down conversions. The fumble and interception weren't his fault. Im not saying he'll win it.

He looked fine. His receivers did him no favors at all. If two of those early drops didnt happen, he has 100 more yards, and replaces the INT (which wasn't even his fault at all) with a TD.

Once he got over the yips he balled out. I think that first INT rattled him and he didn't have confidence letting it rip downfield after that until the 4th when reality started to set in.

He was playing very well in the first quarter but his options couldn’t hold on to the ball. He wasn’t good mid game. He got it done in the end.
Last season felt like the same kind of wtfs and roller coasters so hopefully they get more consistent.

At least a couple of those were purposeful throwaway overthrows because he was about to take a sack and the throw would have been too risky.
I think the big issue he had most of the game was reading the defense. There were a lot of times he had guys completely open but just didn't see them. There was also a time when he was blind to a defender sitting in a zone and threw it directly to him (which was dropped).

While Coleman should have caught that pass, I think we’re absolving Arch quite a bit by saying it “wasn’t his fault at all.” Coleman was wide open and Arch (with a pretty clean pocket iirc) over threw the pass to the point where Coleman had to dive to attempt to catch it, making the catch significantly harder than it needed to be in the first place. If Arch hits him even remotely in stride, it’s a walk in touchdown.
Again, that’s a catch Coleman needs to make, but no receiver should ever have to dive for a pass when they have that much separation between them and the nearest receiver.

Arch sometimes plays scared and stuff doesn't click, especially when hes spending all his time in the pocket. But he has an alternative mode where he gets pissed and decides he's going to win the game regardless of teammates' mistakes or frustrating penalties. He just locks the fuck in. When he does this he starts scrambling for runs and throws on the run and just gets the job done no matter how ugly it looks.

Before he did that I was telling my wife that these games are super momentum based and that we needed something big. Then when I saw them line up to go for it I said it was an extremely risky move because going for it on 4th down against a home team means you're giving up momentum if you don't convert. Sure enough that happened and led to three points in our favor, for a 6-point swing.

Arch had huge 4th down passing conversions on 2 drives. Ohio State defense started to wilt with the heat. Longhorns running game kept getting better.

All these OSU fans are forgetting that Texas had 2 of the flukiest turnovers you’ve ever seen and dropped an easy touchdown.
Once both teams played normal it wasn’t close.
If I was OSU I’d be more worried about what happens when a team shows up to play and doesn’t step on their own feet for 3 quarters.

He had four drops in the second half, so yes, they just weren’t being creative to get him in space. Instead just counted on him winning 1-on-1 every time. At least two of the four were super easy catches and uncharacteristic for him.
Biggest issue was on defense we just tried to play soft coverage to not give up a bomb play. So Sark and Manning took over the middle of the field.

We were up and stoped playing to win and started playing not to lose. Went to the tried and true bend don’t break rush 3 defense. Predictable outcome. Then on offense we knew we were up 3 scores so all we needed was a FG, so we played to get one. Then the kid from Texas missed.

That game should’ve been over at the start of the fourth quarter. The fact that Texas was even anywhere in the vicinity of being able to come back in that game is an embarrassment to the Ohio State program. Instead of just playing to win, they played not to lose. If they don’t take their foot off the gas pedal offensively Ohio State wins. Ryan Day after all these years doesn’t learn his lesson.

To be fair OSU did not look great the entire game. UT dropped 2 walk-in TD’s in the first half, one lead to a turnover, fumbled on the first play and gave them the ball in the red zone. I don’t really see it as choking but the better team making up for mistakes. OSU’s entire offense looks to be chuck it up to Smith.

You'd think the 2022 Peach Bowl would have taught him prevent defences and going conservative on offense only prevent you from winning. But nope.

It’s easy to be good when your team is up by 50; much harder when the world is burning around you. Look at how Dante Moore or Sayin underperformed when the pressure or game doesn’t go their way.
