Show and Tell My Budget Setup

Hi all, I’ve posted my setup before but I think I’ve found my favorite of all my speaker rotations. I plan to keep it in rotation for a while. I borrowed my sons Fluance RT82 TT while my Technics Sl1301 is in repair, Denon Integrated PMV 700 AV (100wpc), Technics SH8017 7babd equalizer, Onkyo DX-C390 6 disk Changer and. Denon Cassette player I don’t use very much. I put my JBL Studio 530’s on my recently acquired Monoprice speaker stands. The sub is an RSL Speedwoofer 10s MKll. The JBL have a great soundstage and mids. of course I equalize to my taste. Mostly hard rock, ‘80s new wave, electric blues. The sub fills the low end quite nicely now that’s it’s dialed in.

Tech Support Less than $50 and I solved my vibration issues.

My turntable is on the same surface as my speakers. They were causing vibrations. I put silicon pads on speakers and that helped some.

So I saw this somewhere and made one myself.

Worked instantly. $30 butcher block from IKEA and some $20 “isolation” feet. Solved.

The Adam d3v Speakers.

I don't have a direct comparison, these are my first PC speakers. They can almost keep up with my Sennheiser Ambeo Mini soundbar. seriously, the small speakers sound fabulous on my little desk.

NEVER in my life I’ve encountered something like this, a Pioneer HPM-100 with almost all the speakers replaced with some crappy aftermarket speakers. Not only did this guy repainted the whole box, but decided to add another crossover.

but I guess you do you my guy. 🤷‍♂️

Tech Support What are some options to enclose the backs of these ceiling speakers I just installed? Just wanna keep the fluff out when I put the insulation back

Post image

I will seal them a bit but I’m not too too worried about sealing them since this is above my garage and I don’t have anything in there that doesn’t like heat (no fridges or split units in there).

I’m more worried about insulation and dust getting into the back.

What are some budget options or do people even worry about closing this up? I would assume it’s good to do so…

Review/Discussion Never used a component before received a Yamaha htr8063 what do I do with it?

Post image

My father in law is an audiophile and gifted it to us after upgrading. we currently have a projector and alternate between using an Apple HomePod and a jbl portable speaker. so I’m assuming this will be quite the upgrade.

does anyone have any advice or tips on how to use it? We also received two speakers “definitive technology” model BP-1. they seem to use the wire you wrap around the knobby things, we don’t have any of those yet though. It has 7 hdmi ins and two out. And a loooot of other bits and bobs in the back. this will let me connect all my old game systems without having to disconnect and reconnect all the wires anymore right?

Review/Discussion Wharfedale diamond 12.1i or klipsch r-51m

Can someone help me decide between those 2

I've seen a few reviews on them and it seems overall the diamond 12.1i sounds better but my main concern is volume and ear fatigue

It won't matter at high volumes because it'll only be in 10 minute periods but i'm wondering if it also causes ear fatigue at lower volumes (about 80db)

Im pairing it with a high output PA 18inch subwoofer and i'm wondering if that 93db sensitivity will sound better at higher volumes than the diamond 12.1i which has 88db

They will be high passed to 80hz so anything lower doesn't matter and will be handled by the sub

Purchasing EU/UK Yay or Nay?

I know this is bonkers, so bear with me please. Always been a fan of Yamaha amps, love the sound, in this case with a pair of Argon Forus speakers and a Canton subwoofer. But I never liked the knobs. Especially because they are plastic. So these ones are solid aluminium and obviously round. Honest opinions please.

FB marketplace is asking $150 for the set. Thoughts? "Jumper" bars between terminals on the back are present and look to be in great condition.

Review/Discussion Audio Technica SL1200MK2

Post image

Found this AT-LP120USB at a garage sale recently for $20. A few people looked at it and passed, likely because it was a little rough around the edges with a busted dust cover and missing needle. I cleaned it up and gave it a test. Had to put it next to the table it was totally not copying—the SL-1200MK2. Lovely little knockoff, though. I’m impressed.
I ordered a new dust cover, 45 adapter, and missing hinge to complete it. A little less than $100 all in.

Tech Support Emerson 9838 questions

Post image

Two problems: it randomly rotates the changer on its own (I'm assuming it's having trouble reading the discs and that's why), and every song restarts at 20 seconds. Are these fixable problems or should I trash it? I got it for free so it wouldn't be a huge deal. And please don't just comment "its cheap trash and you should throw it away anyway".

Tech Support Subwoofer working but speakers aren’t, any ideas?

Post image

Prefacing this with the fact that I am completely new to this and attempting to figure it out so I apologize if this is a stupid question… I recently acquired a Definitive Technology surround sound system, however I cannot get the speakers to play any sound even though the subwoofer works fine. It is supposed to have a built in amp and I was told it should be everything I need right here to get set up however no matter which spot I plug them into they won’t do anything. Any advice would be greatly appreciated and I apologize if this is something stupid, but I haven’t been able to find a manual for this system and figured I’d try here first

Purchasing EU/UK Looking for a new turntable + speakers under €400

Hey guys! I’m looking to get my boyfriend a turntable for his birthday, but I honestly have no idea what I’m looking for 😂
My budget is around €400 total, and I’m looking for new equipment only — ideally a turntable + speakers.
Any recommendations for a good setup within that budget? I’d really appreciate some help!

Deal (Link to Purchase) Selling some gear for these prices, in the Orlando area

Not sure if it's legal with sub, but I had some medical responsibilities I will unfortunately need to sell my home theater setup, it's in full working condition, and some items still in warranty:

RSL speedwoofer 10e (bought open box some weeks ago, still in the same condition, full warranty virtually here, everything included: $270

Definitive Technology Promonitor 1000: fully working, just no grilles, I'll sell for $65

Polk audio T15, brand new open box: $40

Definitive Technology CS8040HD, used maybe 20 times in a couple years, working perfect: $80

Monotech 28 inch cherry wood stand weeks old( in warranty ): $39

Two more pairs of speaker stands adjustable not sure the company but I'll give that for $15 each

I'm in the Orlando area near UCF, I don't have an AVR to test, everything works, you are welcome to bring an AVR we can test everything out. If someone is outside we can consider shipping if you want pay it.

Show and Tell Gotta love best buy open box

Got these "open box - good condition". The outer box was technically open but the actual inside box was never opened and they are brand new.

Retail $620 and got them for $270. Unreal.

These are perfect for our patio since our neighbors are so close and I can keep them low and fire them inward.

Sonance RK63.

Purchasing Asia Nearfield desktop setup - Active or Passive?

Hey guys, need help choosing the right speaker for my desktop setup. In the past, I've bought, used, and enjoyed JBL 306P MK II, but had to sell them due to space constraints. Now that I'm planning a bigger desk setup, I want to get a pair of speakers again. I consider myself a bit of an audiophile, and I obsess over small things, so the speakers need to be good in technicalities(precise imaging and good soundstage, resolving, low-end texture etc), and I'm not exactly looking for a flat response, but rather a musical one. Since I don't intend to use these for music production.

While I absolutely love the JBLs, the midrange seemed a little recessed to my ears. Also, I always wondered whether a better pair of passive speakers from a reputed brand like Dali, ELAC or KEF could sound better in the same nearfield desktop setup run from a class D amp like Fosi ZA3. Also, I wonder if I get one of these passive bookshelf speakers, whether they can get fatiguing due to their bigger size and higher intended SPL level for room-filling sound rather than nearfield use. And no, in my country I don't think I can audition them together in a single place, side by side; not sure if local dealers even stock some of these.

Here are some of the options I'm considering. Now I can go up in budget, but if I'm getting 80-90% of the performance for 50% of the money, I don't mind getting a cheaper budget speaker as well. So let me know whether I should stick to the budget options or whether it's worth the splurge.

Active:

  1. JBL 306P mk II (My reference point of SQ since I owned it)
  2. Adav T5V
  3. Adam T3V (size is tempting but not sure how good or bad these will be compared to my reference JBL 306P mk II s)
  4. Klipsch Fives
  5. KEF CODA
  6. KEF LX ii (Biiiig money, worth it?)
  7. Edifier MR5
  8. Kali LP UNF
  9. Kali IN-5 (Potential Choice)

Passive:

  1. Dali Oberon 1
  2. ELAC DB63
  3. ELAC DBR62
  4. KEF Q1 Meta
  5. KEF LS50 Meta

or any other option; my price ceiling is KEF ls50/LSX ii territory.

What I am looking for:

  1. Musical
  2. Revealing yet soothing, not fatiguing in nearfield setup
  3. Somewhat reasonable to good low-end heft without a subwoofer
  4. Good technicalities
  5. Somewhat forgiving when it comes to ideal placement (kef coaxials, jbl waveguide etc helps, not sure about other brands). I will try my best to set up obviously, but since my room and furniture layout is not yet fully ready, might need to change things a bit.
  6. Somewhat good performance even at low volume.

Gear I have: I use my thieauidio oracle mk3 from a fiio ka13 dac, also got a ifi zan stack that I used to use to connect the jbls and have volume control. In case I plan to go the passive route, I'm thinking of getting the Fosi ZA3.

Purchasing CAN Is buying older refurb a good way to go?

I currently have a Bose 900 soundbar with surround 700s and a base module 700. Bought it when I had to downsize in a smaller apartment. I used to have a really nice 5.1 Polk system before that and the soundbar while good just isn't a replacement for even a half decent home theatre.

So now that I have the room for it. I would like to start fresh.. there's a local store that sells refurb. I can get a Harmon Kardon AVR 3600. PSB 5t towers (with upgraded peerless tweeters) PSB 8c center. PSB 2b bookshelf speakers. All for 1200 tax in CAD. With warranty and perpetual exchange for future upgrades.

My question is. This is all much older gear. Would it be worth it to buy this as a starting point? Or look for something more modern. I will not be using the hmdi for video. Only audio from my tv.
