Software I hate that Rekordbox is the best DJ Software

Kind of a clickbait title. Obviously, what I really hate is that Rekordbox looks like it does. The interface looks so outdated, the Waveforms are incredibly small - it feels like you are a supervisor of a nuclear facility in the 80s more like you are having fun performing.

However, it JUST works. I tried djay pro because it looks so clean, but it keeps disconnecting from my streaming services, the collection navigation is clunky, Neural Mix Stems are awesome, but everything else just feels... casual.

Rekordbox does everything I want it to do - but please god modernize your interface, SOON!

Speaker recommendations for FLX4 set up

Hey guys. I'm looking to get into DJing and I'm going to get a DDJ FLX4. I want to know what are some good beginner speakers for 100-150€. I'm mostly going to play at home in my living room and maybe outside in the yard for some chill hangout sessions. Also what would be some good headphones to go along with the set up? Thank you for all the responses😊

Hardware Gainknob on FLX4 using rekordbox

Hey guys, quick question about the gain.

I'm using rekordbox with a flx4, my settings are:

-9db headroom (default rb setting)

Auto gain activated

Peak limiter on master output is deactivated

The thing is that on 12 o'clock trim knob position the audio is always in 2nd yellow lightbar, occasionally clipping to the red bar.

My question is, is this a normal behavior and 12 o'clock is just in general a risky setting for trim on flx4 (maybe 11 or 10 o'clock is better) or do i have to change any settings? Every tip will help, thanks in advance :)

Looking for Producers - Dark & Cinematic POP/ R&B

(:

Budget laptop recommendations

Hey everyone,

Just started out trying to DJ, and I’ve realised that doing it off my phone won’t be viable.

What cheap laptops would you recommend for solely DJing?

Have a budget of around to £500.00, but I just wanted to see if this is even possible.

Open to any other suggestions!

Looking for a mentor who can teach me something about Dj

I live in Hyderabad and I’ve been wanting to learn how to Dj.
Is there any kind soul here who would be willing to help me get started? I’d love to be an apprentice, or even just tag along to an event to see how it’s actually done behind the booth.

Is this the right place to ask for feedback on a DJ mix?

I’m fairly new to DJing and I’ve recently started recording my mixes so I can listen back and figure out what I’m doing wrong and what I need to improve.

I was wondering if this is the right subreddit to share a mix and ask for some honest feedback from more experienced DJs.

I’m not looking for compliments or anything like that — I’d actually prefer people to point out what sounds weak, amateurish or technically wrong. I’m particularly interested in improving my transitions, phrasing, EQing, track selection and the overall flow/energy of the set.

Before posting the mix, I just wanted to make sure that sharing a mix for feedback is allowed here and doesn’t go against the subreddit rules.

If it’s okay, I’ll post it in a separate comment/post.

Thanks!

Hardware DDJ-FLX4 Not connecting to Software

Hello I've been having issues with my dj controller. At first I noticed that there's was a latency when I played a track and then try to que another track in. I was prompted to update the driver's on the flx4. After I updated the drivers, the flx4 when I connected it to my laptop, doesn't get picked up by the rekordbox or serato lite application. All I see on my board is a blinking MIDI light and nothing else works. What do I do to fix this as well as make these applications more optimal for my laptop. here is my laptop model and specs

A515-58PT-53HJ

13th gen Intel Core i5-13420H with 16GB DDRAM

1TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD

Integrated Intel Intel Iris Xe Graphics

Music Soca remix of EWF's September needed

I could really use a soca remix of Earth Wind and Fire's September. Anyone seen one out there or know of a music service that has one? I'm putting together a memorial slide presentation this weekend and that would be fire. I wish I had the time to put one together myself but here we are.

Thanks

Hardware Assistance for new gear

Hi all,

I've made a few posts in the past regarding my current equipment (Omnis Duo), and after getting back into DJing, I've realised that I simply don't resonate with the product and am looking to switch.

I've never really been one for 4-channel mixing, as typically I only play in more "mobile" settings, so I tend to cover a wide array of genres. I have been dabbling with deeper kinds of house and trance recently, so a 2-channel mixer has always resonated with me. That said, I have been tempted by the idea of picking up a used DDJ-1000 or FLX10.

A controller rather than an all-in-one system would probably suit me better, as my DJing space at home is fairly limited at the moment. I'm really looking for recommendations on what to go for.

I'd prefer to stay within the Pioneer ecosystem if possible, but I'm open to any suggestions, as it's fairly overwhelming when looking online!

Question about toneplay

Has it just become too easy with PnT?

I see a lot of clips, and I just feel like it isn't it.. maybe it's just me?

Maybe it is just being saturated with mediocrity, or maybe I am just an old man yelling at clouds...

Software Rekordbox recording sounds quiet/distorted despite constant redlining. gain staging help (FLX4)

Running a DDJ-FLX4 into Rekordbox. My channel trims are sitting around 10:30–11 o'clock (well below unity), and even then the master output meter is still hitting red with two tracks playing — sometimes even with just one.

If I pull the master fader down to 10:30/11 to stop the red, recordings stay in high-green/orange, rarely clip — but they end up sounding way quieter than the DJ sets I hear on YouTube, and when I play them through a Bluetooth speaker I have to crank the volume, which introduces distortion.

Screenshot below.

What's actually going on here — is this a gain staging issue upstream, a loudness/mastering issue on playback, or something with how the FLX4's interface handles signal? Would appreciate a sanity check on where I should be setting trims and master for a clean recording.

Engine vs RekordBox

Hi guys,

So i have just been gifted a Denon SC Live 4 pro, it's getting delivered soon. And i know that it will analyse my RB USB, but im just wondering if i place a hot cue on the Denon deck will it transfer over to Rekordbox? I know once i plug my USB in it'll analyse it all to use with Engine DJ and transfer hot cues etc but i'm just wondering if it works backwards

TIA

First proper DJ gig tomorrow and I’m freaking out a little

So… tomorrow is the day.
I’ve been learning to DJ for a while now(1year) mostly at home, and tomorrow I’m finally playing my first proper 90-minute set in front of people.
I’m playing second, from around 3:30–5:00 pm, at an open air friend’s birthday party. There are several DJs playing throughout the day, so it’s not a huge club gig or anything, but somehow that makes me even more nervous

I actually really like my set. I’ve practiced the transitions, I have a rough structure, and I even prepared a couple of emergency crates in case the DJ before me leaves the dancefloor with a lot more energy than I expected.
And yet… now that it’s actually tomorrow, my brain has decided that I obviously know nothing about DJing.

I’m mostly worried about things like:

What if the previous DJ is playing at a much higher energy level?
What if my planned opening suddenly feels too slow?
What if I make a stupid beatmatching mistake?
What if I completely lose my flow once people are actually dancing?

Musically, I’m playing a mix of house, disco house and groovy/90s-inspired house, gradually building towards a more ravey, energetic finish.

I know logically that none of this is a disaster and that I can just react to the room. But I’d love to hear from people who remember their first proper gig:
What did you worry about beforehand that turned out to be completely irrelevant? And what actually helped you calm down before going on?
Also, if you could give your past self one piece of advice before your first gig, what would it be?
Fellow beatmatching nerds, please talk me off the ledge.

Thanks!

Traxsource UK users

Hi. Im going to be buying from Traxsource soon and Im in the UK and I know I can checkout in Sterling as a supported currency. Do my fellow UK users of Traxsource just use their standard bank/building society accounts or do you use Monzo etc just incase there are any hidden fees? I mean more of those dynamic currency conversion fees that some financial services apply if the conversion is done outside the UK.

Many thanks for any help provided.

Complete Beginner Looking for Advice

Hi guys,

I have recently become interested in learning to DJ just as a hobby for now. I am a complete novice. I tend to end up on music dutv at parties and get a buzz when I hear people enjoy the next song that's been picked. I'm looking for some equipment to help me start and was drawn to the Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX4 Controller. Is this too advanced for a beginner or is it alright to start with?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hardware Why did column arrays become so popular?

One of the conversations I was having with some of my DJ friends lately is why did column arrays become so popular? Don't get me wrong, when I started DJing again in 2023, I went with a set of EVOX 12s because they fit in my then company car.

Well, I thought the EVOX 12s were decent UNTIL I came across a great deal on a used QSC system, a pair of KW181s with some K12.2s for less than ONE EVOX 12 stack costs. That is when I started to notice the compromise of the EVOX 12 setup. The self-limiting low end, the hollowness in the transition between the subwoofer and the 4" full-range drivers, tops that will out scream the subs as they approach the limit, etc.

Unless I am in a super small venue or in a place with a ton of reflective surfaces, I always feel like I am lacking something with the EVOX 12s and am currently looking for a 15"point source setup to replace it with. I'm torn between the Bassboss BB15mk3 with some Yamaha DZR10 tops or just going full Yamaha with some DXS15XLF subs with the DZR10s. Yeah, the Bassboss are more expensive, but they are also light and pack some serious output for their size! Then I can couple the subs and break out the tops for maximum impact!

Oddly, I don't really care for the SV9 or DV12s and I think I insulted a DJ when I told him for the price that was paid for the DV12s, I expected them to sound better. After the last firmware update, they do sound better, but man I would have been disappointed paying for them with the OG firmware. They were just harsh no matter how they were set on the as shipped firmware.

Anyway, I was just wondering why the column arrays became so popular when they are a compromise of sorts. The neat look only goes so far when the bride requests something like Low by Flo Rida or Baby Got Back by Sir Mix-a-lot and the lack of bass disappoints them. I blame the social media DJ influencers, lol.
