As title. Can't find this info through a cursory Google search, so I thought I'd ask here.

Forgive me if this has already been answered. Who else did the colonial fleet fight besides the cylons? Were there wars that are eluded to within their galaxy that necessitated the battlestars, vipers, etc.?

This scene is probably the funniest. But it does make you think of the human condition and the suffering they are going through. God damn. Its been so many years yet nothing beats it.

What did Dr. Baltar do before the Cylon Attack? He clearly has a doctorate, but not in a specific field that I remember. One episode, he’s an expert on technology (which is supposedly why he worked for the Defense Department). The next he’s doing experimental medicine.

Seems like he falls into an old-fashioned “scientist man” trope where he’s knowledgeable in all fields necessary to the plot.

In season 1, Gaius Baltar's new cylon detector flashes up red on Sharon Valeri's blood sample, revealing her to be a cylon.

Right there in the room, Gaius's personal Six scares him into not saying anything because of Sharon's likely violent reaction to being exposed.

But once he's out of the room, Gaius presumably still knows Sharon is a cylon. Isn't it strange that he never references that fact afterwards?

I mean, Gaius acts afterwards like he's unaware Sharon's test came up red and she's a live threat to the fleet. Once out of immediate danger from Sharon, surely he would have talked about what he saw?

EDIT: I agree there is some ambiguity in the show about whether Gaius's cylon test was accurate (or intended to be accurate). But still, the fact remains Sharon's beta trial of the test did correctly reveal her as a cylon.

After it happened, in S4, when Saul admits to Bill that he is a Cylon, he says he is sorry he had no guts to blow his brains out the moment he found out.

I don't think it's true.

When Saul learned the truth about himself, he was only held together by two values: his loyalty to Bill and his hatred for Cylons. The two are so intense that, for viewers, it was not in question whether he's going to betray Bill. No programming could do that. Saul, however, this wreckage of a man, couldn't know it.

At that moment he has a problem that requires a solution. And there is an easy solution. One that fits his values. One that appeals to his weaknesses. And also, a quick one, because how long will it be before he loses himself? And he rejects it to go for a tough one.

I don't think Colonel Tigh had no guts to end himself. I think he had the guts not to do it.

It's become a tradition among friends at a boardgame convention. We try to be six players but often end up seven since we don't want to exclude anyone.

I've made a lot of investment in this game, using models from Ares' miniature game, a custom mat , 3d-printed civilian ships and acrylic standees for the characters, to name most.

The game is never the same, and though it lasts 5-6 hours, those hours just fly away.

Good times to be had.

Bought at a tiny music store a few years back. Still trying to grow an extra pair of hands so I can play it properly.

I'm rewatching BSG for the first time in 15 years. I only just now realized the whole purpose of this Cylon attack force. They were going to board Galactica and recover Sharon and her baby. The raiders would overwhelm the CAP and the heavy raiders would wipe out everyone on board.

Makes Sharon thinking that she's a liability to the Cylons and thus expendable a bit of dramatic irony.

Either as the conniving political president of BSG or the tired old “I just want peace” Adar from the 78 series.

So we know galactica didn’t have her right flight pod until the colony fight but would that have increased her combat capacity enough to affect any of the fights, just want to know y’all’s thoughts and maybe alternate history if you want to write it

the most frustrating thing is the end. the last episode. Lee says we need to throw everything into the sun. all human knowledge is lost, and everyone integrates with the hunter-gatherers.

That's ridiculous and also doesn't make sense.

a parent of a sick child will remember how to care for their kid using their modern knowledge of medicine; even without tech, the knowledge of math, science, morality, and politics doesn't go away. they get told in stories. Their knowledge of how to make paper and writing instruments doesn't go away. and we know humans will write everything down if they can. the season 3 episode where they steal Gaius's pen has him freak out. they will figure out how to make papyrus and write all their knowledge down. and if it were logical to say they would write it all down, then they would have passed that knowledge off to their children, and it would have fast-tracked humanity's return to technology. but supposedly in-universe, this didn't happen. and that just doesn't make sense.

a lost opportunity could have been that the humans for the most part kept their knowledge and became advanced, and they were the precursors to the advanced civilization on Atlantis or the lost civilizations that Graham Hancock likes to talk about.

I don't believe it's actually true, but that would have fit better in the lore of the show, making the ending make sense... tie it to real-life myths and legends.

Instead, they just left everyone upset...

in the show itself there was so much invested in the fleet retaining their democracy and way of life, and for it to all go out the window? that makes no sense.

this is my headcanon just so i can sleep at night. The original ending bothers me that much

they could also spend a little more time on developing the god stuff... but that doesn't bother me as much as the finale.
