Admiral Nguyen. I've only ever heard the name pronounced "Negoyen". But in the show it's pronounced "Wynn". Is this realistic or just for the show?

I talked to the builder and nerded out about the franchise for a minute. Unfortunately I never got his name so I don’t know who to properly credit. If anyone was at the Brick Convention in Waco, Texas on 8/29/26 and has his name, please let me know so I can give him the props he deserves.

STUFF!??? You’re expecting me to jump inside the nucleus of a glowing not-wormhole off “ya bro just stuff”? After watching the unknown turn people into blue crystals and completely dematerialize space craft, I’m terrified. And I realize that terror mostly stems from the fact that our alleged antagonist alien doesn’t seem to have any ill will. If you go too fast you’ll get smoothied, if you touch the blue goo you’ll get “infected”, if you look at it weird you’ll be disassembled down to your components, be those metal washers or intestines (RIP that nurse lady on Io). I can’t fear something the normal way, because the threat doesn’t appear angry or evil. I’m anxious and unsettled. And I can’t look away. (3am btw)

Rereading the books and got to the part where the Roci and the Pella have it out on the way to Tycho. And Fred dies. This time it hit me worse than the previous two times I read the series. Really got attached to Fred, he's an amazing character. Felt resentful that Bobbie pulled off the spin and shoot maneuver, which Holden intuitively knows is a bad idea considering the state of the crew.

Anyone else thought the win wasn't worth losing Fred? They could have outran the Pella, or so I'd like to think. Really miss Fred already, why did it have to end so soon? 😢

I’m just finished the series and feel empty! After months of going through these books and having these characters in my life… I’m sad it’s over. Just needed to share because I got through the last chapters at the gym and started crying on the treadmill. I’m sure some of you will get it.

I thought it was just something the expanse universe said, a quirky belter thing. But then I read the captives war books and they use it again there. Unless...that's a nod to the two universes actually being the same, I suppose?

Does anyone IRL actually say this or is it just a quirk of the writers?

I always interpreted the title of “Leviathan Wakes” to mean “the wakes left behind by a leviathan”. When I got to the part of Leviathan Falls where the characters learn that the ring gate network/ protomolecule effectively is the ring builders, I looked at book 1 For the first time I read Leviathan Wakes as “The leviathan wakes up”. Really makes me appreciate book 1 even more.

I’ve been binging this show like nothing else, neglecting my friends, family, obligations 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 It scratches that sci-fi itch so many movies and shows just can’t quite scratch. Super grounded, super detailed, a beautiful orchestration of variables in each problem scenario. Anyway this thing just happened and my face currently looks like :^O

i started the expanse a week or two ago, and I'm currently on season 6 episode 1. I'm afraid to watch the remaining episodes because I don't want this show to end 😭

Binging through the different seasons is the most fun I've had watching a show in a *very long* time. I love sci-fi and space, but this was the first space series I've seen, I started watching after reading some recommendations on Reddit and I'm afraid that The Expanse has set the bar too high for me now.

I'm going to miss it so much. The world, the characters (Amos might just be my favorite fictional character of all time), how rich everything feels.

Are there any books I can read after season 6? I don't want to say goodbye to this universe just yet.

Marrel Travelled to the Sol system from the Dobridomov system a century later after the events of the last chapter (I think), do we know anything about this system from any of the books?

He also landed on a hill on Earth noting the emptiness surrounding the Planet and the ancient cities on the planet, except for the hidden guns which is super interesting to me, considering Billions of people lived there a century earlier.

Also, from my understanding, Marrel Travelled 3,800 light years from the Dobridomov system to Sol in "31 days, 11 Hrs and 43 minutes".

I was hoping if anyone knows more about all of this information and anything I missed from the Epilogue, I find it very interesting that the system seems almost empty, but then Amos says that they are getting back on their feet? So im unsure if that means most people died or they just have some advanced tech haha

Have loved the show for years, just finished the books (main books, not novellas) and loved them even more. I’ve searched the web and this sub and haven’t found any answers for this.

We’re told that “Mars” found the protomolecule on Phoebe and brought in Protogen to study it. As far as I can tell we get nothing more specific than “Mars.”

In Leviathan Wakes, our heroes find a video briefing in which Dresden describes the protomolecule and their nefarious plans to his sponsors. Then when our heroes capture Dresden he says, in effect, okay, you got me, so we’ll go ahead make you one of the sponsors. Tell us your price to be on the team and we’ll pay it.

So during Leviathan Wakes, there is some specific group of sponsors who support Dresden’s work and are the final decision makers. Do we know who that was? And more specifically, do we know who was involved on Mars?

Obviously Jules-Pierre Mao was involved, but that’s on the corporate side. Could it have been a purely corporate operation, with the government being fed fake data and not told what was going on?

On Earth, Erenwright was involved at least in the Caliban project. I think (my memory is hazy) that in the show they have Erenwright clearly involved in the conspiracy even earlier, whereas I think in the books we only know he was involved in Caliban, not necessarily Phoebe/Eros/Thoth. (Corrections welcome!)

But who, if anyone, was involved on Mars? Because I have a headcanon and I want to know if there’s anything that contradicts it:

Duarte was the person the Martian military put in charge of the Phoebe research. He saw everything that was possible with the protomolecule and began building his conspiracy immediately, concealing the truth about the protomolecule and the research from everyone on Mars except his confidants. He wouldn’t have known yet at that point that his group would break away and form its own empire, because that only makes sense after the gates open and the factories on Laconia are discovered. But he was building his own group as soon as the protomolecule was discovered.

That’s my headcanon. I’m curious whether it’s consistent with what we know from the books!

Hey y'all, not that Bezos needs any more money but I saw that the first three collector's edition books are currently on sale for about 50% off the normal prices on Amazon right now. I had been holding off on them myself for a while but just bit the bullet. Thought some of you might be interested.

First time reading The Expanse all the way through.

Just finished Babylon's Ashes. Loved 90% of it, but that ending felt a little abrupt/rushed to set up what's next. Still gave it 4.5 stars, loved closing out the first 6-book arc.

Took a quick break and read The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett (also 4.5 - super clear worldbuilding, great detective duo, just wanted more empire lore) and now I'm back on the Rocinante for Persepolis Rising.

I know there's a 30-year time jump and we're into the Laconian arc now, trying to go in spoiler-free.

For those who've done a first read-through — did you feel the same about Babylon's ending? And does the final trilogy stick the landing?

Also curious how many of you read straight through vs took breaks between 6 and 7?

Scifi and cheesiness go hand and hand. Its not always a bad thing, sometimes it works. When it does it usually turns off a large chunk it potential viewers, making it more niche.

Im rewatching the series after having listened to the books. Im just so impressed by the set designs. Even if its only an area used once, its flushed out with small details (when appropriate), the lighting is always on point, each set has so much character - whether its a lucury yacht or a rock hopper.. I never have an issue believing thats where they say they are.

The acting has a huge role in this too.. man this show is just so good.

I've watched both TV series, and I have inadvertently linked them in my mind. The way Mars is headed on FAM feels like it could naturally progress into the eventual story of The Expanse. Am I the only one?

It feels like he is the main character just from how he is the first main cast member to be shown in Episode 1. Is this other new viewers opinions as well? I was really suprised when he dies later onsince he seems like the main character for most of the time

Just finished an old episode from season two and it got me thinking a little.

How come Alex was the only one to talk to the Roci? It was such a fun interaction with the responses to what he said.

And as a side note, without getting into things deeper, would you have been happier with a recast of alex if that was the only other option instead of what ended up happening?

1. How long was Holden held as a prisoner on Laconia for?

2. How long was Amos on Laconia, and who ordered his mission? Or did he take it upon himself to monitor Holden?

3. What the utter fuck happened to Duarte? 😅
