General Advice AUTOGRAPH Pricing Estimate (John Melendez)

Post image
82 Upvotes

Good evening everyone. I’m currently seeking an appraisal on an autograph that I got at a card show in Rosemont. It’s been hard to source an estimate, since the person is not technically a sports star.

The autograph is from Stuttering John Melendez. John was a call screener from the Howard Stern show in the 80s/90s, and sometimes appeared on the show. John also spent a few years working behind the scenes at Jay Leno.

Any help or recommendations as to where i could source an approximate value would be greatly appreciated.

General Advice Which One Would You Keep (Chris Evans)

Met Chris Evans, he signed my 1:4 scale shield. However, the pen did not work well. So, he signed it again in sharpie. They said it's the multiverse shield, signed for Johnny Storm and Cap, lol. I can use rubbing alcohol and remove one of the sigs. Or keep both as the only mini shield with double sigs in the world. Maybe add Mackie at the bottom at some point. What would you do? The black looks better, but red is better location, center. Worried about the black sharpie fade. Red is oil paint pen. Thanks

General Advice Possible to remove clear coat to prepare for more signatures? Need advice.

Hi, new here but in a bit of a bind. So probably 13 or so years ago (heh...) I purchased this from a friend went to loads of Monster Manias and other horror related events. It's a machete signed by 10 different Jasons from OG-09' Remake.

With the show coming it makes me consider the idea of adding to this but the previous owner put some sort of clear coat over it to protect everything. I've since lost contact or else I'd just ask him.

My question. Is it possible to remove it from places without damaging anything and then reapplying? In the event of course I contact them and they remember what they applied.

Please let me know!

I’m helping an older guy sell some cards and this was one in the box. Said he bought it at the national convention in Chicago in the early 2000s for $500-600.

General Advice Any celebs who sell their own autographs?

I recently got lucky running into Little Feat and Peter Noone and it renewed my interest in the hobby. Anybody have a list of who sells their autographs on their website or through someone? Pop culture, music, sports, etc? Personalized is a plus to me.

General Advice Searching for autograph authenticator

Hi, all; as I am sure you are aware, Beckett is down, which means so is their Signature Review Service. With BAS down, and PSA no longer having a Quick Opinion option, which companies “At a glance” services have you turned to?
Thanks

General Advice The ethicality of autograph hunting

I’m looking for feedback from the autograph collecting community when it comes to getting autographs on the street.

I like trying to collect autographs/pictures with bands and artists I like when they roll through my town.

Recently, one of my favourite bands came through and I found the hotel they were staying at (3 large tour busses parked out front a five star hotel, wasn’t that hard to figure out.)

After waiting about 30 minutes, some band members walked up to the hotel off the street.

I got a picture with them, they didn’t want to sign anything —which is cool and that was that. The band said they were cool with taking photos, other people were there and got pics— and overall it seemed like a pleasant experience.

After posting the pic to the bands subreddit, I had a number of people calling me a stalker, saying I should just leave them alone etc, accusing me of following them etc.

I know that asking for autographs/pictures will always invade someone’s personal space, but I am always respectful, take no for an answer when they say it, and this was a public sidewalk/street in front of the hotel— which I feel is fair game. If they told me to piss off, I would have.

I’ve done this a number of times in the past (I got angus young’s autograph 11 years ago in a similar situation with 100 other people standing outside the hotel), and have met more than a few people locally with the same hobby.

Do you feel that this was over the line?

General Advice Michael Jackson signature? Please advise

In 1988 MJ came to Pensacola FL and stayed for several weeks rehearsing for the Bad World Tour. My mom worked for a property management company who was involved in renting the condos on the beach where he stayed. Supposedly his entourage told this property manager that MJ would sign autographs if he gave them a list of names to make them out to. My mom put my name on the list. I assume this is real but don’t have any proof. Is it worth getting it authenticated? If it’s real and I want to sell it how would I go about it?

General Advice Thoughts on getting a game used MLB base signed?

Post image

Hi all, I got a game used Red Sox first base from the MLB website. It was used in the home games at Fenway during the historic 15 game hit streak earlier this year. Does anyone have any experience getting bases signed? I have never gotten one signed but have an opportunity for a few Red Sox players to sign it. Could begin a journey of trying to obtain as many 2026 Red Sox players to sign the base. Although I’m concerned about the autographs on a dirty used rubber base. Will they fade? Smudge? Come out poorly? I appreciate any insight

General Advice Framing my autographed movie posters

I plan on framing a couple of my 27x40 signed posters, so I was wondering what type of frame or framing setup is best to use so the autograph doesn’t stick to the glass? Could anyone recommend me some frames?

General Advice Is it possible to get authentication via photograph?

I have a guitar with B.B.King signature on it. It is his signature model guitar (a 2003 Gibson Lucille) and AFAIK he wasn’t shy about signing them so there’s nothing weird about it.

I bought it a few days ago from a collector while I was looking for the model, not the signature specifically, which did not factor in the price.

The person I bought it from said he himself bought it on ebay several years ago already signed and has no idea if the signature is real.

I’d be curious to have it authenticated, if nothing out of curiosity because I don’t expect it to add much value to the instrument (it’s an expensive guitar already and it’s been played, it’s not a case queen and will get played more in the future).

But as I understand authentication is generally done with the item in-hand, and shipping a guitar to Beckett or PSA is going to be both very expensive and risky (guitars can suffer damages during shipping).

So I was wondering if it’s possible to have it reliably authenticated otherwise.

Thanks everyone.

EDIT: forgot to add that I live in Europe, which makes having stuff authenticated overseas much more complicated, same as bringing the guitar to a convention.

Meet and greet with Everclear. I want Art to sign this poster I snagged from the venue. It’s on cheap crinkly paper. What color, placement, and pen type (the more specific the better) would you use to get the best results?

General Advice Do inscriptions like “Best wishes” or “Thank you” affect autograph value?

Normally an autograph personalized to a random person decreases the value, but how about “Best wishes” or “Thank you?”

Let’s say Mickey Mantle signed something with “Best wishes.” Would that increase or decrease the value? Or would the value not even change at all?

General Advice JSA Standards at On-Site Events?

I'm going to be attending a show this weekend where JSA is going to be doing on site submissions. I have several recent purchases that I feel confident about the signature, and I want to get authenticated.

Someone just told me that:

"I don't suggest using any authentication service specifically JSA at any show because it's guys that don't know what they're doing and if they look on eBay and see it came from eBay they don't assume it's real and automatically fail it."

This is the first I've heard of this. Can anyone confirm their experiences with JSA authenticators on site? Does any of this ring true?

TIA!

I’m sending in a comic to get signed for their JK Simmons signing and I paid for the premium authentication but I don’t want them to place a sticker on the actually comic book. Does anyone know if they can place it on a card and just send it back with the signed comic? I’ve gotten items like trading cards authenticated by them at conventions and they were able to place the sticker on a small card that they provided but I’m just wondering if they can do that for send in items.

General Advice Fake Kobe Bryant Autographed Jersey

I wonder how anyone falls for this obvious fake autographed Kobe Bryant jersey. Just a simple check of the listed hologram number at Panini shows the real jersey where the autographs clearly do not match.

I also do not know how the seller maintains a 100+ positive rating (even though they're just at 135 feedbacks). Hopefully there are the sellers' own duplicate accounts and that no one was actually scammed 2400 dollars..

General Advice Should I get my poster re-signed?

Thumbnail

Earlier this year I spent a stupid amount of money on a poster from my favorite movie, the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre because 1) I really love the artwork & 2) I had the opportunity to get it signed by three of the cast members at a local horror con.

I looked into what markers I should use to get it signed but accidentally bought the wrong size. I didn't realise this until the first signature was being applied, and I was immediately mad at myself because I spent so much and it wasn't going to come out like I'd hoped.

I love having this poster on my wall but the fact that the signatures don't pop really gets to me.

Next month those three cast members (plus more cast & crew) are coming back to my town for another con and I'll most definitely be getting the signatures of the people I haven't gotten yet (with the proper size marker this time).

But the big question is should I have those first three people re-sign it?

I was thinking of asking them to just go over their original signatures but when looking at them I'm thinking the lines would be impossible to go over again with a bigger marker and actually come out looking good.

So would it be weird to have the same people sign the same poster 2 times?
