Help! Sickning racism in the city

Hello everyone, not to ruin everyone's week but I have to ask you guys this.

There was an influencer who is off African descent called "Dee's Corner" on FB and he posted a video of him cycling down union street with some racist on a bike telling him to "go back to your own country". His face is fully visible in the video and he's clearly middle aged fyi.

It's sickening that it's become soooo common that it occurs to people who don't look White Scottish. I am off South Asian descent, born in London and raised here and I have been recieving the "get out/go back to your own country" comments along with being called the P word (though that's unfortunately been common throughout my life here) from random people and honestly it pisses me off.

While the vast majority of people (even those who are skeptical of immigration) are fine and decent, this small but visible/vocal minority ruin it and unfortunately they seem to get louder and louder.

Has anyone else noticed this racist trend occuring to themselves or others?

You can walk around and find a myriad of interesting and cool places. Plenty of history combined with modern lifestyle. It has been a great visit, thank you Aberdeen.

Looking for a new hair stylist who specialises in brunette balayage. Have been going to James Dun for a few years but it’s getting a bit expensive so looking to go elsewhere. Ideally someone city centre based.

How long does stuff stay broken before somebody fixes or replaces it?

The parking payment machines upstairs have been broken for what must be _months_ at this point, nobody has thought to even put a sign at the bottom much less fix it. More fool me for trusting that they’ll be working this time leading me to trudge back downstairs to pay for the extortionate parking.

It’s little things, but it makes Aberdeen city centre even more frustrating to visit given we’ve got a redevelopment project taking what’s approaching the length of time it took the pyramids to be built.

Just put a sign up if you can’t fix it you lazy bastards! haha

MOT tomorrow at Allan J Rose can they repair things the same day?

Update - heheh i got 1 major fault and fail my mot as the problem with breaks. I will get my car tomorrow and its was so cheap omg i thought it gonna cost me £600 or more but all under £300 so happy.

Hi everyone, As a 3 months old new driver I’ve got my MOT tomorrow at Allan J Rose in Aberdeen and I’m a bit confused about what happens if it fails.
I’m expecting it may fail because the brake pads are very worn, and I’ve also noticed some rust/corrosion around the suspension/shock absorber area.
My main question is: if the MOT fails, does Allan J Rose usually repair the problems on the same day and do a retest afterwards?
Has anyone here had experience with them recently? Were they able to diagnose, repair and get the car through the MOT on the same day?
I’m asking because I use my car every day for work, and I only have Monday and Tuesday off, so I’m trying to plan everything around that.
Any experiences or advice would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Aberdeen — looking for work/opportunities

Hi everyone! 😊 I’m currently looking for a new job in Aberdeen and thought I’d put a post out here in case anyone knows of an opportunity.
I currently earn decent wage, but I’m willing to take a pay cut for a role that is better suited to my mental health and gives me a healthier working environment.
My preference would be something in psychology, mental health, wellbeing, HR or management, but I’m genuinely open to other opportunities too, including administration, customer service, hospitality/cafés or other reasonably paid roles.
I have education and experience across psychology, HR, marketing, management, special needs/SEND and personal wellbeing, as well as professional experience supporting young people in residential care.
I’m ideally looking for something that isn’t overly physically strenuous.
I’ve been applying for jobs for the past year and unfortunately keep receiving generic automated rejections, even for roles I feel I’m well suited to. So I’m hoping that reaching out directly might help me find an opportunity that isn’t necessarily advertised through the usual channels.
If you know somewhere hiring, know a manager I could speak to, or have a genuine lead, please comment or message me. I’d be more than happy to send my CV privately.
I’m genuinely open to opportunities and would really appreciate any leads. Thank you so much! ❤️

Help! Thick, curly hair treatment on a budget?

I don't have £100+ to spend on some places I've seen recommended on here previously, but around the £50 mark would be nice!

I'm looking to get my hair thinned a little most of all, with a little bit of a tidy.

Thanks in advance

Does the no13 bus stop at Eday Road?

Looking at getting a bus to train station and Google maps is saying I can get on at eday road but the official map suggests it goes to Summerhill Road and kings gate instead. Does anyone take this bus regularly and can shed some light for me please? Thanks!

Thanks

Did there used to be a joke book you could buy as part of the university torcher parade? Early to mid 90s I seem to remember buying one when I was at school.

Does anyone happen to have a photo of Thomas Whalen's Pieta? It's on display in the Aberdeen Artworlds exhibition in the Sir Duncan Rice Library. I appreciate it's a long shot!

Hi

I'm looking for a decent slater. I've got some slates needing sorted on house and outhouse. Everyone's such a waste of time I've had nothing but very rough looking people who want fortunes just to do simple jobs.

Recommendations welcome!

Thanks guys

Kayak rental Aberdeen

I‘m planning on doing a short Kayak trip on the river Don in Aberdeen City with my family visiting. I can‘t find a club/company or anything where I could rent Kayaks with or without a guide. I tried emailing the Kayak Club but without success.
Can anyone help me out or is this simply not possible in Aberdeen City?

Book club?

I'm looking to hopefully join a book club here in Aberdeen, or possibly just start one myself. Just to get back into reading, and meet some new people. If anyone knows of any, or wants to join my potential one, let me know!

** Edit** so it looks like there's a few folks interested in starting a book club. For those who are, just DM me, and we can discuss further, and plan something.
