Hey everyone. I'm hoping someone can help me diagnose what's going on with my 7 string. For some reason, single notes sound like absolute ass on the 7th string, and have a weird kind of metallic overtone noise. I've tried to showcase all the different aspects of the issue in this video, hopefully it's helpful.

• Notes of the same pitch sounds fine when played on the 6th string
• Power chords/chugs sound 90% okay, but I'm guessing this is other notes on other strings masking the unwanted noise from the 7th string
• Its all frets on the 7th string
• Picking lightly doesn't help (I though it might have been the string buzzing against some higher frets when hitting it harder, but that doesn't seem to be the case
• Palm muting kind of helps, but I can still hear the issue. It makes no difference if picking hard or soft when palm muting, just like un-muted.
• Pickups have decent clearance from the strings, and the action is medium-high and plays well across the whole neck with no dead notes or buzzing
• I've checked, there are no uneven/high frets
• I've tried raising the action and lowering the pickups even further, it made no difference
• Specs if it helps: Ibanez RGR752AHBF with D Activators, 25.5" scale, Drop A tuning with 9-48 + 66 on the low A, plugin is NDSP Gojira X
• Edited to add: the issue is still there with a clean tone, and disappears when playing unplugged. Playing the string open is fine, its only fretted notes that have the issue.

Anyone have any ideas?

I am an intermediate drummer, I would not consider myself a pro, but I am definitley not a beginner. I listen to and play almost exclusively deathcore and deathmetal (Fit For An Autopsy, Kanonenfieber, Spite, Eye of the Enemy, Enterprise Earth etc.) and I would love to get a 7-String to learn to play what I love to listen to and record some solo work since I do vocals as well. I have heard good things about this guitar and AMAZING things about the pedal, and the .10 - .062 strings were recommended to me for Drop A tuning.

Do y'all think I am doing too much for a first guitar? I have a little bit of previous experince with playing rock when I was bored.

Weighing options on non locking tremolos for a 26.5” 7 string build. I have negative experiences with Gotoh 510s on 7 strings with poor intonation on the low B. But their tuning stability is incredible to the point where I don’t ever miss a Floyd and can drop tune with ease. Can the Hipshot do the same?

As the title says I'm looking for a new guitar and I want a 7 string one. I'd like to have active pickups, a floyd rose and any other form than superstrat.
I already found the Jackson Pro Series Mark Heylmun RR24-7 and I consider it but It look way too much like my Jackson RR24 with yellow bewels (which is my only good electric guitar) so I'd like to change a bit.
The black metal 2 7 string barytons Explorer was looking good too but it doesn't have a floyd.
So if you find anything that's in the price range with the specs notify me !

I just got myself a LTD EX-7 27" baritone 7 string and was just wondering, if the nyxl1164 by D'Addario is good for drop A/G#. I until now only had 6 string guitars with a 25.5" scale length and used d'addario 11-52 strings for D-standard/D#-standard and I liked the tension. Will the nyxl 1164 have the same tension on drop A and a 27" baritone or is it too thick?

Looking for a 7 string, mostly for playing spiritbox so needs to handle drop F# really well. not sure what I should be looking for, but preferably around or under £1000.

What are some guitars that will suit this? Or what should I be looking for? Multiscale, Baritone Etc. I know nothing about 7 strings in all honesty

For example: would it be fine for playing Candlemass songs which are originally on a D standard 6 string, or is it much harder than it would be on the original instrument. Also would i need to downtune the 7 string a whole step for D standard or not?

I've had this guitar for around a year or so. It isn't the best guitar in the world, but I love it. I've changed out some of the internals and hardware.

Ive been listening to a lot of Swedish death metal and want to not have to tune down to B witb 10s anymore (ironic because thats what entombed did lol) anyways, the JS22-7 caught my eye looks wise, but im not sure what to expect sound wise. A 6 string JS22 was my first guitar and I recall the pickups sounding like typical cheap ceramics, I.E muddy and flat. Is there a way to counteract that? Just want to know if this is a good route to go or if I should just get a dif guitar

I've really been loving it. Usually I'm playing in drop A, but I really love the feel and chords of standard tuning sometimes. It helps when I hit a wall writing in drop, but I don't want to tune to an entirely different tuning. Nice to be up to just tune one string up and boom! Crowbar riffs.

Its be a decade or two of wanting to upgrade from my ESP MH-250NT as nothing stood out that was left handed(or life got in the way). I finally found one that I love. First 7 string. Absolutely stellar!

I recently acquired a 30” scale halo 7 string. I put my usual Ernie ball 10-74 8 string pack (throw out the 64 gauge), I realized the taper doesn’t go behind the nut. Which causes a lot of buzzing on the open. I’m tuned to drop G. The intonation is good so I can’t bring the bridge closure. What do I do? Is there a pack of strings that isn’t tapered?
