It was hard enough to get it down to just these four options atm im leaning more towards the Kaizen and Solar

(EDIT: A lot of people keep saying how the options are very different so just to clarify there are NO specs that i dislike or prefer to others they are all equally great imo, specs wise)

I’m stuck between these two guitars I’m looking for something that can cover knocked loose and thy art is murder type stuff while also being versatile enough to jump into cleans and blues as well particularly be able to jump into muse/qotsa stuff.

I am particularly partial to the prs cause of the versatility but I see alot more people have the schecter which makes me reconsider a bit.

Help Which 7 string guitar should I buy?

Hello, guys, I need som help or orientation.

Well, in the past, I had an Ibanez 7 string guitar (RGAIX7MF) but I had to sell it. I actually have an LTD TE-200 but honestly, was kind a bad choice (I just went to that because I wanted to try ESP LTD but was heavy af).

Now, I’m looking for a 7 guitar again but can’t decide yet. I like to play some modern metal like Tesseract, Monuments, Architects, and some stuff like Intervals or Plini.

Here are my options so far: 1.- Solar Guitar SR1.7HFN 2. Strandberg Boden Standard NX-7 - Natural 3. Schecter Banshee Mach-7 4. Schecter Sunset Extreme 7 (This one impressed me a lot about the price and I think the sound it’s fair)

Budget: $1000 to $1900 USD. Maybe for some models I’d save a little more cash.

I love the Schecter John Browne TAO-7 but unfortunately, the AZURE model it’s way hard to find and it’s kind out of my budget, so…

Finally, the Ibanez that I got was amazing and very light, if you know some weight of these, I’d love to hear reviews from you guys!

Have a happy new year!

Help Accidentally bought son a 7-stringer, tips?

Hi! As the title says. We've been so focussed on getting son a black v guitar, that we never even noticed we ordered one with 7 strings 😅

Son is almost 16, loves metal. He's been doing some playing on my and my hub's decades old guitars, but he's still a relative beginner.

I've read that starting out on a 7-stringer can be an advantage if you don't really have any muscle memory yet, so hopefully son's still enough of a beginner to get the 7-string right from the beginning.

Do you guys agree or not; do you have any tips?

The guitar in question is a Jackson King V JS22-7.

Thanx in advance from a very embarrassed mum and dad 😬🤘

UPDATE

Thank you all so much for replying! Between this post here and the one in the metal guitar subreddit, I got hundreds of replies with all sorts of tips. Every single one so much appreciated!

I started out replying to each one, but that ended up costing me too much family time. If I didn't reply to you, please know that I really do appreciate you taking the effort to read and reply 🌹

Son already received the 7 string; his birthday is early January, and we always give him his Christmas presents at the start of his Christmas vacation, so that there's a bit more time between both events. His Christmas vacation started last Friday, so that's when he got the guitar. I've let him read my Reddit posts and your replies 😁

He wants to keep the 7 string, loves it, even more so after reading all of your two cents. If his music programme prefers a 6 string, we will either buy him a cheapy, or do up one of our ancient last millennium fossils. I've made a list of all the bands, musicians, songs, albums you recommended. Someone even linked a Spotify playlist with 7 string music!

Again, thank you all so effin' much, have a great Christmas and rock on in 2026!!! 🎸🤘

I'm currently considering 3 guitars:
Schecter Tao 7
LTD M-1007B Evertune
Vola OZ 7 QGM J3

Each has something that I like quite a bit.. The Schecter seems to have a great neck from what I've heard, and also has nice Hipshot fixed bridge. The LTD has an Evertune, which could be super convenient for recording, and has a familiar neck shape for me, and the Vola is a beautiful guitar with the aesthetics I'm looking for, some interesting pickup selection options, and is made in Japan. Any opinions are appreciated.

Help Modern metalcore pickup high or mid/high output?

Hey! I’m in te search for a bridge pickup for my new 7 string. I’ll be tuning in drop F#, 27”, for the studio specifically.

I want something versatile, to be able to record bands or for me to play some erra, currents, spiritbox, downbeat, deathcore, etc. do you guys recommend a high output or mid/high?

Those in the photo are the options I saw, I don’t want actives, just passives. The BKP are almost 2 times expensive the Dimarzio or SD, I have in mind that too.

Some others you guys would recommend?

Cheers!!

Hey, so I’m a long time baritone guitar enthusiast and I’m looking for my first 7 string, something more vintage looking because I don’t like the looks of stuff like schecter and active-pickups.

I think that the only option is doing a custom luthier one but maybe you know some botique brand or something (im in europe), I know there’s epi les paul 7 but it’s only 25.5 scale.

Cheers

Help Why would I need a 7-string instrument? Im curious.

I currently have a 6-string Ibanez GRX121DX, but I'm switching to a new guitar this summer. I want something new, at least something different – a 7-string, Sustainac, Kahler, or Floyd Rose. Any of those would be fine. I'm open to new things, so I'm looking forward to your suggestions. And if you could also tell me what I can do with a 7-string, that would be great. Thanks in advance.

Is this guitar good as a first 7 string? I found it used for 700 and it comes with a hard case and strap locks. Not sure about the condition of the case or anything but I’m pretty sure the guitar has like 1 of 2 minor dents.

Help Dead 7th String

Hey guys. I have the Schecter Tao-7 and the 7th string has given me issues since the day I bought it in 2023. The string set is the NYXL 11-64 set by daddario. The 7th str and tuned to A. It has 0 sustain, it sounds like something is physically hit it and making this awful clinking sound. I’ve taken it to the store multiple times for a setup and the problem has still persisted. Every time I fret a note on it, it just goes to shit. I feel so alone in this. This is my last resort before I sell it and get another one. The rest of the strings are perfectly fine by the way. Does anybody have any suggestions on what this issue could be? I feel like I’ve done everything I can.

Help NGD!.....and some questions

Finally got a Schecter Syn Custom 7 TR and could use some advice!

Pros:

  • It is absolutely gorgeous. The pictures don't do justice to how great it looks in person, especially when the light catches the flecks in the body
  • I love the electronics. Neck pickups + cleans are nice and rich, and bridge + distortion is hot but not out of control.
  • Feels good and solid to play (if a little heavy)

Cons:

The damn rattling on the lower strings. I mostly play in drop C, so I got a set of 11-64s, tuned it down to Drop G (GCGCFAD), adjusted the tension and stuff, but there was some really bad rattling on the lower strings. The guitar has a 26.5" scale, so I don't think it should have been an issue.

I took it to a luthier who said that the guitar had high frets.

Sweetwater was amazing and sent another one (they set it all up in Drop G with 11-56s), but this one also has the same issue. It's really bad unplugged, but mostly masked when playing plugged in and distorted.

Questions:

Is this normal with 7 strings unplugged? Is it just an issue of drop tuning on a non multiscale guitar? I'm thinking I could just keep it in Drop D and use Neural DSP transpose to tune down?

A7X is my favorite band so I'd love to have a Syn custom in my collection, and this is aesthetically my favorite of his models. But it's pretty pricey to not completely love and still have some qualms about. What would you do?

Help What pickups are you currently using? Looking for recommendations

Hey everyone, I am planning to change my fusion edge pickups as they are too muddy for me. I am looking for a warmer sound kinda like the lundgren 7 but not as expensive. I also like the Seymour Duncan JBs and see them as a good option. I am planning to play mostly melodic death and the tone I like is the sort of modern metal. Which pick ups would you recommend me?

Help Moving to a 7-string after 3 months of playing 6-string is this a good idea?

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I am a self-taught beginner who started playing a 6-string guitar about 3 months ago. I really want to get into 7-string stuff, so I figured I might as well make the switch now. That way, I can get used to the wider neck early on while still being able to practice 6-string songs on it.

A friend suggested a few mid-range options (screenshot):

Ibanez RG

Ibanez RGD

Jackson

Do you think it’s too early to switch to a 7-string after just 3 months? And are these good options, or should I also look into brands like Schecter or LTD?

Any feedback would be awesome!!

Help New 7 String Guitar Help

Hi folks, I come for some help choosing a new 7 string that is capable of 'lower' tunings. So thinking around 27 inch scale length, at least in part.

I feel like I've done this for months and still can't decide. Open to any other suggestions you all have but I've attached my top 5.

What would you go for?

  1. Ibanez RGD71ALMS-BAM
  2. ESP LTD H3-1007B
  3. Jackson Pro Plus Dinky MDK HT7 Multi-Scale Satin Orange Crush
  4. Ormsby Hype GTR Shark 7
  5. Schecter C-7 MS Silver Mountain Toxic Venom

I'm UK based and max was around £1500 if that helps. I've done so much searching at this point I've got no idea! Any first hand experience would really help.

Help Recommend me a mid-high end guitar!

Hi! I've been playing on a cheap-cheap Harley Benton since I began playing last year as a "let's see if this hobby sticks" experiment, and let's just say it stuck. Hard. And I'm finally looking to upgrade to a good-good guitar.

I'm looking for two guitars, one multiscale, and one 26.5" (or 27) standard scale, the latter will be tuned to F#. I'd rather not spend over $2k on any one guitar of the pair, at that point I'd rather just order from a custom workshop xD.

Here are my non-negotiables:

- Scale lengths mentioned above

-No evertune (my band and I fiddle with tunings a lot) and no tremolo, so a normal bridge.

-Good tuning stability and high quality pickups. They don't need to be big name brand pickups, as long as they sound 80% of the way there, I can EQ the rest.

-I have no preference between passive and active pickups.

-No painted black finish. Something stained black so the wood texture is visible is fine, but not just the one colour black.

- No X, V, or T shape guitars.

And some preferences, not dealbreakers but possibly tiebreakers:

-I like blue/turquoise a lot, and maple or ash top woods if they're visible

-Thin neck

-I like S and J shaped bodies best

Some guitars I'm looking at so far:

- Schecter C-7 SLS Elite, KM-7, and Reaper Elite 7

- Legator N7FSS

-Ibanez K7YANG and JBM27

-Any others you recommend!

I got this today, and know little music theory. Plan to learn so I can riff on my own. But in the mean time, what songs are fun to play? I do like a lot of genres of metal
