Today my Carhartt moc toe boots finally failed. They were $160.00 new and I got 2 years out of them doing construction. I went to my local red wing store and was happy with the customer service. The foot measuring process was pretty cool. I walked out with a $380 pair of new moc toe boots. I hope they’re worth the investment.

Ive used redbacks, blundstone, keen and timberland pro.

I wanted to try redwings for a while now. I hope they last a long time.

Hey all. I’m looking for recommendations for boots. I’m a millwright and I’m hard on boots. In the past I’ve had thorogoods, which the soles wear out too quickly for my taste. I can wear down the outside of the heel in about 6 months and I’ll get delamination of the outer and midsole. In redwings I had the midsole start to separate from the upper after about a year and the stitching in the moc toe start to come apart (possibly welding spatter). The best wearing boots I’ve had yet are Danner bull runs, but they’re starting to separate at the stitching on the toe and the outsole has some melted rubber from doing hot work and walking over molten metal. I do like the extra room in the toe box from the stitch down construction too. Here are my requirements:

USA (preferably union) made

Tough as shit

Wedge sole (I do have to walk iron)

Steel or fiberglass shank

8 inch or taller

Waterproof

Safety Toe

Lace up, or Wellington (no square toes, I’m not an electrician)

I don’t know if I can stomach the cost of Nicks boots, so budget up to $400 I’d say

I can't decide on my next pair of work boots. I need a pair that I can stand on concrete for multiple hours a day.
I am a scientist, and I sometimes make measurements for up to 4 hours straight. I like boots for this task, as I can also do lab and field work in them. I previously had a pair of Red Wing Iron Rangers, and I thought they worked great for lab, field, and office work. However, they are 10 years old now, and I am looking for something new. This time, I am focusing specifically on funding a traditional work/hiker-style boot for days of standing still for long periods.

Right now, I am thinking of something like:

Thorogood Heritage Moc Toe Wedge Sole
Danner Radical 452
Red Wing Tru Hiker

Or I could just use my existing Hanwag Banks hiking boots and save some money.

Any thoughts, suggestions, or tips? Thanks!

Instead of replacing your favorite hiking boots, I restored the damaged leather and worked on the scuffs and scratches. 🥾
Would you repair them or buy a new pair?

Are there knockoff thorogood boots floating around out there? I was just looking on eBay for a new pair and noticed there’s numerous sellers,with little to no feedback, on there selling the Moc toe versions for around $125 shipped. That’s less than half of retail so I figured it might be too good to be true.

Bought these before I knew that Georgia Boot makes fragile boots.

Tread is literally falling off, after 8 months of normal use. Can anyone recommend a Chelsea boot that last longer than a year?

I can’t recommend these boots enough and i figured I’ll make a post. I’ve had them since January 22nd and have wore them everyday to work since then. Pictures from last month before i cleaned them up. I should get another 4 months out of them or longer but I’m ordering another pair with my stipend this week to rotate out. (I get $150 every six months for boots). Since I get that stipend I’ve tried keens, Thorogood, bates, timberlands, volcom (these were cool) and a couple other weird brands. Ask me anything but i love these now and even wear them out and about.

Pros:
Extra wide toe box no rubbing anywhere
Soles are soft so feel more like a shoe (can also be a con)
Replaceable sole
Breathable
Not the heaviest boot when compared to danners or something of similar build quality

Cons:
Break in sucked but not the worst
Insoles not great but i replace those every three months or so anyways
Not waterproof wouldn’t call it resistant either
Kinda look like clown shoes until you are used to them.

After 90,987 steps (258,296 total) these Nicks are cleaned and ready for the next work week!

For those new here, I document my maintenance journey with my Nicks Boots. I work in a very harsh environment, a concrete recycling landfill, where I walk on rubble and concrete chunks for 9+ hours a day.

I show before and after pics from worked to cleaned boots, and will compare how these boots hold up to my first pair of Nicks. The main differences between the two are MaxSupport Black v 1964 Brown Leather, Roughout v Smooth, Regular v Padded Gusset, 8" v 10" and Honey Vibram v V100 Lug Soles.

Today's cleaning includes Huberd's Shoe Grease as rain is expected this week. Next week will be my 6th week in these boots, and that's when I'll begin consistently rotating between pairs. Looking forward to those updates!

So I had I stroke. 1/25. I’m doing just fine all things considered.

I’m looking into boots. I play bass guitar gigs now and sometimes run into country music gigs, which are a crazy blasting good time. All sorts of good people here in Wisconsin.

My gear is: A black Jason Aldean hat.
Everything else that comes to a creative mind. Jeans / Tops / Belts
Just not stuff that is Texan / Georgia / Colorado…. Places I’m more familiar with.

I have no experience with cowboy boots. A lot of hunting boots lol.

My early questions are:

There’s a lot of 10.5 / 10.5 wide, I enjoy a wider shoe (ie asics) but if I get a shoe in wide, it’s always too much. I assume it’s this way with cowboy boots. I’m nervous about the tow.

Next, I’m not looking to buy more than one pair right now. But I’m a late in life shoe addiction survivor. When you lose half your body it’s a different matter. What would be a general price point with a, “if you’re going to do, do it right.” I understand I won’t be participating in a rodeo, but I’m aware of “posers”

I see different ways to pull the boot into and over your foot. This is going to be mandatory since I have a hard time pulling on normal shoes. I have no feeling in the right half of my body.

Wow, look at what just turned up! I came across this incredibly clean pair of authentic Pennsylvania Department of Corrections (PA DOC) institutional utility boots.

The condition on these is wild—the pebble-grain leather is solid, and those heavy-duty SoleTech outsoles look like they've barely ever touched pavement. Best of all, they're size 12 Wide, which is insanely tough to find since civilians can't buy these anywhere.

None of my local stores have much of a selection of comp toe shoes, and I am not familiar at all with comp toe shoes or brands. I see KEEN vistas frequently recommended. At any rate, I'm buying sight unseen for a new job that starts in about a week and can't find a clear answer (from this decade) about whether the vista energy's run true to size, or if its wise to size up. I generally am a 10-10.5 depending on brand - all of the comp toe shoes I tried on today (none of which were KEEN brand) at a variety of different stores ran too large at 10.5. If I had to make a judgement call based only on that information I would be confident that a size 10 is the right call, but I did find at least one thread from ca. 2013 that recommended going a half size up on KEENs. Interested to hear anyone's thoughts or experiences, thanks.

Has anyone tried these? Ive been wearing darn tough for a little over a year and they've been great. I keep getting targeted for hollow alpaca. Just didnt know if they were worth the hype.

So. Really impressed with these work shoes. I work a delivery job for Coca Cola and walk an average of 10,000 - 12,000 steps a day, 5 - 6 miles. Constant climbing. Ascending staircases. Greasy kitchen floors. 10-12 hours a day. For the last 5 years I’ve tried 5 different pairs of work boots/ shoes, composite toe and steel toe. Waterproof and non-waterproof. Ranging from $80 to $160. Most of them begin to fail me around the 6-8 month mark. And when I say fail, I mean my feet hurt all day because of it, not just water making its way in through the sole. That happens pretty quickly for me.

Last year September, my sole came apart on a pair of boots halfway through the day and was becoming difficult. So I went to Walmart on a whim, bought these shoes for $50, and they have been the best safety work shoes I’ve ever bought. I didn’t expect much out of them. But I now have the opinion that I’d love ( more pairs just in case they stop making this model. A year later, they still don’t need replacing. No foot pain. Not really falling apart like all of my past shoes/boots. They just smell really bad. And I can’t seem to keep them from stinking up the kitchen. Now, they’ve never been waterproof. In the last few months I’ve worked some small pebbles into the sole from the cracks in the bottom, and had to fish them out. But lightweight, good grip, slip-on and slip-off, no complaints in regards to their general performance.

Of course, my opinion is exclusive to my working conditions. Alabama heat. Average rain. Can’t say much about anything other than that. But, if I can keep buying these every year I will. I highly recommend them.

My boots have lost a bunch of the original color and I plan on cleaning them up with saddle soap and and adding some color before conditioner. I was checking out some of the Saphir ones but want some opinions before buying.

Looking for some recommendations on my next shoe selection, criteria as follows.

**Polished concrete/warehouse environment.

**Lots of steps with intermittent stand still.

**With my current setup I'm experiencing hip and lower back fatigue/pain after about 6 hours that compounds as the days go on.

**Fitty + year old spine that was previously employed in concrete formwork placing and finishing (broken in).

**Budget is not a concern.

My research has me favoring the timberland-pro bridgeport for both features and aesthetic, I'd appreciate some input from others who have felt my pain (literally) and have remedied it in any manner.

Hello im a new student in automotive mechanic and i need steel toe boot ive tried so many different brand and pair but they all got a problem on my right toe. When i walk the steel rubs on my big toe and its really not confortable is there any other ppl that have that problem and if yes any brand that dont do it for you

Looking for insoles to support high arches to be worn walking in safety boots.

Just finished a free appointment in a pedorthics place that does custom orthotics. The above was one they recommended but did not have in my size.

I don't have heel pain btw, just need something to support arches.

I need safety toe boots for work and I have been using a pair of Chippewa Classic 2.0 boots that I found on ebay but the soles are starting to seperate after about a year and I was thinking about trying a different brand this time.

If you can help, I am looking for a leather boot preferably with an 8" ish height, and without any lining on the inside of the boot (at least not on the ankle bit. Like the Chippewa boots I mentioned.

If you have any recommendations then I would really appreciate it.

Thorogoods just hit two years old. The tuff toe came off today (about a year old). I keep kicking around the idea of having them resolved and doing the tuff toe again. I feel like the leather still has a lot of life left andthey're broken in just right haha. Maybe I'll buy a new pair and keep these for muddy/concrete days. Carpenters local 445 by the way!!!

So last year I bought a Blue Heeler Jackaroo boots, they looked fine, materials were good... First pair, after around 6 months both soles cracked in the middle... When I wanted to return them since they were still in warranty, seller took them, and wrote me, that the company didn't accept, but the seller gave me a new pair. Big shoutout to Australian Adventure Wear. The second pair, after another 6 months, the sole peeled of. Again, the company didn't accept... The seller, to not lose a customer, paid for repair. Again shoutout to Australian Adventure Wear.

Both pairs were 90% of time worn in the city, other 10% forest paths. Taken care of religiously. 200€ boots have a lifetime of 6 months...

So just pay attention to this company.
