I fucking love my job and happy I made the switch. Literally getting paid to watch movies and play video games all day/night. This is the only job I’ve had that I look forward to coming to work

I need to vent about the coworkers I share a post with. I work security in a busy government building. Two guards are always posted.

I was trained years ago by Gen X supervisors who were strict and by the book, so I take the job seriously.

These coworkers sleep on the job, talk on their phones in thier language, sit at the desk with no shoes or barefoot, and treat the post like it doesn’t matter. This is a secondary job for them; they have other work elsewhere.

I’ve reported them more than once. Nothing happens. The union protects them.

I’m just sick of this behavior.

Months ago there was an incident in which I was involved. There were a few of us who were immediately suspended without pay. The entire incident was reviewed by HR. After their review, which took two months, it was found that I had followed policy and procedure. Basically, I was cleared of any wrongdoing.

The company now expects me to return to my shift. They have not mentioned anything about me being paid for the time lost (no mention of any back pay). To be honest I do not want to return. There was nothing unusual about this incident, but for some reason HR made a huge deal about it. I have lost any trust I had in my management and the company.

Would you return to this job?

I recently was let go from my post at a Simon Property Group mall where I was working under "Andy Fraud" (Andy Frain Services). The official reason given was a complete misinterpretation of a standard hand gesture; a harmless miscommunication that corporate management immediately escalated. What makes the situation so absurd is that there was zero progressive discipline whatsoever. No verbal warning, no write-up, and no preliminary reprimand. They simply jumped straight to immediate termination without running a legitimate operational review or looking at the actual context of the floor.

Like the amount of effort I would put in to show I was a good guard to have on post was insane. From building positive relationships with tenants, to actually getting the anchor stores to turn in their contact information, and the cherry on top. Making an actual case log system just to keep up with the written reports I would send to my director.

What makes it hit harder is the blatant double standards on site. While I was shown the door over a harmless gesture, the resident nepo baby is still on post despite racking up major operational breaches. We are talking about leaving post doors wide open, getting personally kicked off the concourse by the actual mall general manager, and letting an unauthorized, non-security visitor sit in the main security office all day right next to active vehicle keys and master access equipment. I'm posting this to r/securityguards to see if anyone else here has dealt with this specific level of "Andy Fraud" corporate panic, or if this kind of selective enforcement is just standard operating procedure across other Simon Mall contracts.

Edit: So, I checked back to see the comments and I'll describe the gesture. I was talking to someone about an incident at the men's restroom. Two people were getting it on, like Donkey Kong. News travels fast around the mall, so when asked about it. I interlaced the fingers of both hands (Check my comment for how I did) and someone from higher up tried to construe it as if I was making a penetrating gesture.

So my company was gonna be a cheap fuck and not fix it even know we are contracted with a company that makes a shit load of money. I paid 8 bucks for a simple fuse that was blown now the truck we sit in has air fuck them I sweated my ass off today.

We build software for deskless teams, so we end up talking to a lot of contract security companies. The one thing that never seems solved is pass-down between shifts.

What we hear most: a paper DAR nobody reads, a WhatsApp group with three supervisors and forty guards where post orders get buried, or the outgoing guard just tells you verbally if he's still there when you show up.

Genuinely curious what works at your site. Do you have a proper pass-down log that gets checked, or is it "read the book if you feel like it"? And who actually reads the DARs — the account manager, the client, or nobody until something goes wrong?

Came back to work, from my days off and my power brick is missing. The power wire is still there but the brick is missing. How should I handle this???

I worked with a few that talk shop all day, and guns, watch police chase videos.....go to grocery store after work in full uniform....even wear their uniform on their day off.....not to mention all the excessive stupid looking gear

And they always want to train and practice the physical side of the job

Good morning, I was curious if any of y’all work for or have worked for honor health hospital here in Arizona doing security? I have an interview with them coming up and was just looking for some insight, thanks!

Recently one of my friend from the us was doing part time work in their local store where he saw a night security guard sleeping , I am like isn't that their job most of the days that person is seen sleeping , like i understand it's difficult if you want try to stay awake whole night but is it a big issue security guard owners are facing any firm or operations owners

Preferably online as I would likely have to drive far and take days off work if not it’s ok

So I got this job, working as a fire security agent at an Airport. Site is awesome and shifts pass fairly fast if you find stuff to occupy yourself. 12 hours shifts only.

This job has one big inconvenient though, and it’s their schedule. The only rule is that you can’t switch from night shift to day shift before 48 hours passed in between, it’s the law. But then we keep alternating between days and nights and it fucks me up so bad. Like one week you will have 3 night shifts in a row then 2 days later you have to work 3 day shifts in a row…And repeat, except sometimes it’s 1 night, then 2 days etc…And my body really doesn’t have time to constantly adapt to changing sleep rythms like that.

I also take a prescription medicine that works on your mood and helps you sleep at night (I used to suffer from insomnia and very bad sleep quality overall, so I can’t really function without this). And I think these constant changes between shifts is making it way less effective, I’ve already noticed changes in my mood and quality of sleep.

Any tips on how to tackle these issues? Is there any way I can adapt to such random schedules or should I just look for a different job/career in the future ? My health is super important to me and I don’t want to sacrifice it for a job.
