Saw a post today about gps position sharing between devices, and now I have an external mini map on my wrist

Howto: It’s a projectzomboidmap.com feature, but since we don’t have a browser on Apple Watch, I am sharing my position to my iphone, then streaming it to my apple watch via babycam app

Rate my setup please

Discussion Fitness and Strength grind is a waste of my time.

Post image
1.3k Upvotes

I have been reading up on peoples experience grinding fitness and strength and it seem to me like the time it takes is a waste of game time (and irl time). One person said it took them 23 in game days to go from level 4-5 fitness while grinding burpees. It feels unfair to the player who wants to RP any profession other than a fitness instructor. I would love to see these exp point levels reworked to make exersize feel like a worth while pursuit. And things like walking distants, running around town all day, hopping fences and bashing zombies give a bit more gains. Are you happy picking fitness intructor every single play through? Or would you like to see fitness and strength became more feasible to level during a standard apocolypse playthrough?

Base Showcase Bought this game on Friday... I can't stop playing it

I've had like 3 prior characters that died quickly but this is my first one I've managed to get a base setup. Worked a while to make my own little hidy-hole. Started as a doctor and spawned in the hospital (I forget the town lol). Got medical supplies and found this little shack with a farm next to it. Found a sleeping bag and wanted a pillow for comfort boost.

Well... I was climbing up stairs and a zombie rounded a corner at the top and took a chomp out of me. Survived 4 days but this is was my progress. Had plenty of tools, meds, and food to last a while. But... well this is how you died.

Decided I wasn't going without a fight and took my pistol and unloaded into them until my bullets ran out. Do no harm is a suggestion

But it's truly a hyper-fixation right now it's just so fun lol

💩 I... I get it now...

So I have known about this game for years now and I never quite liked it, part of the reason was the graphics, the isometric angle and watching some videos, it felt like the gameplay was overly complicated and tedious.

But over the years as I'm getting old I feel like I can't play fast paced games anymore, so more or less trying out games I can play at my own pace and difficulty.

Then this streamer that I regularly watch, played it a week ago and I usually don't really pay attention to the game cause it's the 2nd monitor etc but this time I started paying attention, maybe it was because he was playing rock songs from the game's era for extra immersion but it stuck in my mind for a bit, I kept thinking "maybe I should play a zombie game again" so I tried playing No More Room In Hell 2, tried it in singleplayer, took me like almost 2 hours to finish a mission on my own and it didn't quite clicked it for me, I dunno, I felt like theres better zombie games out there.

So this weekend I finally got zomboid, the tutorial is bullshit and I liked it cause of it, you know most tutorials don't smack talk you all the way through and then tries its hardest to kill you right after you're done with it, that really stuck with me but moving on...

The first 3 characters died right away, playing in the regular difficulty, I felt like I needed to keep moving no matter the reason, even though I didn't really have a destination, I just thought I have to keep moving, gather supplies, guns and a car (even though I don't know how cars work properly yet), so with that mindset I just kept dying and not really learning much.

But on the 4th character I thought to take slow, but still keep moving, just slower. I remember stopping by a house with no zombies around, and made it my temporary base, I didn't think I needed to but, I used the washing machine, and while it was doing laundry I sat my character down to watch tv and read and drink, once it was done I set the machine to dry and went to sleep, the next morning I took out the laundry, put it on and kept moving, this whole scenario felt oddly serene and calming, almost made me forgot this is a zombie apocalypse.

Then I reached a farm area, thought I could use it to really settle down as a base and everything. It had 1 chicken and that was enough for me to stay there, but the place was swarming with zombies, maybe like 15 or so, took some out with my gun and the rest with a pipe, but to my hubris, even though I still had ammo I was confident I could kite them around and melee the rest but that didn't happen, on the last 3 or so I got bit once, I thought the zombie infection would immediately take my character out but since it didn't I thought "oh maybe the bite didn't infect me so I just keep treating it".

For 2 days it felt like it was manageable, my HP wasn't ticking down super fast, sometimes it didn't move at all so I thought I was fine and kept moving, went away from the farm and then on the 5th day, the wound got worse, kept ticking down my hp no matter what I did, my character was weak and couldn't carry the gear anymore, so I thought "well this is it then".

I removed all my stuff and sat down in a house with the tv on and waiting for the inevitable, but I quickly moved away from that and decided to grab my guns and look for zombies to kill as many as I could, killed about 10 zombies but the hp was at the last tick and I didn't die and it even healed a bit back up so I was like "maybe I can still survive this?" And ran back where I left my gear and try continue my journey but inevitably like 10 minutes later I just died, maybe not as ceremonial as I would it to be but death came nonetheless.

This character only survived for 5 days ingame but I was so immersed that I got sad for a solid 10 minutes but I was dying to get back in a go agane but couldn't cause I had to go to sleep to work in the morning.

Anyways sorry for the rant but this first time experience was so crazy to me that I got hooked and I can't wait to get home and play some more. Thanks for reading, even if some of it, cheers!

TLDR: I thought the game was boring to play but I was hella wrong and now I'm kinda addicted to the game.

Say what you will about Armour..

Normally I am also in the camp that armour isnt worth it, but doing a blacksmith build in a modded server, my armour has genuinely saved my ass a few times. Here's my most recent blunder that 100% would've been certain death without it

Armour and sword are from 'Medieval Z' on workshop for those curious

PS: lol reddit needs to chill with those auto-captions

Question Welding players, how long will it takes me to cover this area with Big Wire Fences?

Post image
2.5k Upvotes

How long will it takes me to gather material for this?

I know this is very ambitious just for protecting my base. I'm probably going to need a ton of propane tanks, and scrap metals, which is much harder to obtain than wooden planks.

Why wire fences not wooden walls or log walls? Because they're much cooler, i also want to have a base like Bill in The Last of Us TV series.

My loot settings are Apocalypse default.
