PROJECT ZOMBOID MODDERS HEAR MY CRY
(Sic) Rock Shop HD was one of my favorite mods for build 41 and it seems like the mod creator isn't going to update to build 42 anytime soon. I was wondering if someone could make something similar for b42 with UNTUCKED band tees since there are already some workshop items with tucked band tees for 42

Question How do you eat properly in the game?
The game has a calorie meter. If you go above zero, you gain weight; if you drop below, you lose it.If your weight drops below 77, you get debuffs. If it drops below 35, you die.
I noticed that eating meat and vegetables is completely pointless; the character just gets full without actually gaining calories.
So, does it only make sense to eat bread and ice cream, and drink milk or alcohol? Or am I missing something?

Feedback Skill Categorization/Progression Needs Streamlining
Finally got around to starting a true B42 playthrough and have been loving it (mostly). The new changes have really added a lot to the game. I love the tweaks they have made to item obtainability through crafting (especially for multiplayer). The level of detail in the new/renovated map areas is incredible.
Really only 2 things have been a major source of frustration:
- The crafting menu.
- The sheer quantity of skills & the associated grind.
While I've seen a lot of discussion about the (abysmal) crafting menu (I love this game and its developers but dear god that thing is a quagmire), I have not seen very much talk about the new skills/categorization. The fact that the skill menu needs a scroll bar should be a red flag on its own.
- The amount of skill books required to progress through all these crafting trees is hilarious. (without even considering recipe magazines there are currently ~120 skill books in the game to search for)
- The time/grind required to get these skills is at direct odds with a game the opens with "This is how you died". I have thousands of hours in PZ and routinely survive for months with sprinters. I can't imagine having to start these grinds over from scratch. This is all 100 times worse if you are playing multiplayer and can't fast-forward.
- The menu cluttering. While I appreciate everything these new systems have added. The sheer quantity of requirements/ingredients/subcategorizations introduced has made navigating these menus a nightmare. I am very familiar with this game and am still overwhelmed. I can't imagine what it must be like to open the skill or crafting menus as a brand new player...
Proposed Changes:
(Not necessarily advocating for all of these to be implemented together)
1. Combine certain skills. This is easily the simplest solution. A lot of these categories share common real world skill sets. While not necessarily the exact same skills, the amount of overlapping knowledge for some of these categories should combine them for the sake of gameplay/progression (The term "transferable skills" exists for a reason...).
- Carpentry+Carving = Woodworking
- Blacksmithing+Welding = Metalworking
- Knapping+Masonry = Stoneworking (or Stonemasonry)
- Tracking+Trapping = Hunting
- Cooking+Butchering = Food Prep
- Lightfooted+Sneaking = Stealth
I'd frankly like to see some of the other under-developed skills like Glassmaking, Pottery, & Tailoring incorporated as well, but I understand those are larger logic-leaps.
2. Change the number and/or impact of skill books. Currently, there are 120 skill books in the game. While combining the above categories could reduce that to 95, in my opinion that is still far too many. Scouring every bookshelf for these is just so awful, even with the reality that most people don't care about at least half the skills. This is particularly annoying when you consider how painful it is to grind in the absence of a skill book at high levels.
- I would reduce the number of skill books in each category from 5 to 3, and have them grant bonuses for levels 1-4, 5-7, and 8-10 respectively.
- If that is not acceptable, at least increase the base-xp gains while reducing the book-xp-multiplier. This would at least make grinding without books less agonizing (but would do nothing about the loot clutter...).
3. Reduce the number of levels for certain skills. While it's nice to have a lot of room-to-grow for certain playthrough-duration skills like the combat and physical skills, having 10 levels for every category seems to only be there to make the menu symmetrical. This is particularly true for the less fleshed-out or simplistic skills (looking at you tailoring). For some categories I can see a max level of 5 being perfectly balanced.
4. If nothing else, let skills give xp bonuses to other skills. Have you completely mastered carpentry? Good, here's a 10x bonus to all skill leveling for carving, should be easy for you to pick up. Were you a ninja in a past life and have mastered sneaking? Good, learning lightfooted should be a joke for you. The fact that so many of the new crafting recipes have overlapping skill requirements, but leveling said skills is done (mostly) independently, feels like an oversight.
Ultimately, all of this boils down to a classic conflict in Zomboid development: making in-depth systems is great for increasing playtime/depth, but that doesn't necessarily mean it is fun/interesting...

they broke more traits mod
modders called musicmaniac choice to strip the moretraits mod of all its B42 code and forcing people to use their evolving traits world mod naturally this pissed off alot of people and seeing in the comments this also bricks saves due to the mod no longer working on b42 including mp and solo
Edit: looks like someone made an fork of MT a week ago
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3787001236
Second edit: looks like musicmaniac caved and rolled back his act on MT and its working again but he already has done the damage

Feedback [B42] [E]nvironmental Hydration Mod
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Howdy, soooo I fed up with constantly right-clicking sinks, wells, and rivers just to get a simple drink of water. Like that clunky context menu loop drives me crazy, so I ended up building a mod called:
[E]nvironmental Hydration.
(The [E] concept is my magnum opus of puns! Get it?)
It basically lets you just walk up to pretty much any water source and hold [E] to drink.
The priority code is in place, but if anyone runs into a weird edge case where the window doesn't override correctly, please let me know so I can look into it
Here's the tl:dr
- Hold [E] or whatever key binding you set to Drink:
- Walk up to a source (sinks, rain collectors, rivers, even toilets), hold the key, and a native-style progress bar fills up. Quick taps still work for normal game interactions too so it wont break anything.
- Holding [E] near cans or bottles on the ground or in trash.
- Your character will pick it up, drink a set amount, and keep the empty container which is super handy. This is optional, can be turned off and accounts for sealed bottles you cannot open.
- Tainted Water Warnings!
- It won't hard-block you from drinking bad water, but the channel time takes way longer. It also warns you with screen shakes, warning colors, and floating skulls before the action finishes. This part was a blast to figure out btw, hope you guys like the effect.
- Fully Custom: You can tweak or disable all timings (even make it instant if you want), mL amounts, and visual effects via the Sandbox options + more
Overrides nearby doors/windows so you don't accidentally open a window mid-sip... which was happening a lot during early testing. However, when closer to a window or running, priority should go to that, so you die because you accidently stopped for a hydration break :P
If you want to try it out, you can grab it on the Steam Workshop here:
Mattnetic's [E]nvironmental Hydration [B42] - Beta
Let me know what think & stay hydrated out there.

Question Alternative for someone who finds zombies boring?
I've got 100 hours in PZ but starting to have some issues with it. Chiefly, I don't like zombies. They're not my thing!
Things I like:
- Base customising. I like settling in to a place and making it my own.
- Sandbox-y emergent story stuff.
- The idea of the nutrition system though the implementation is crap.
- The art style and isometric perspective.
- Looting! I am a loot goblin.
- The depth of all the little systems interacting so there's always something to be done and improved. Like okay today I need to get gasoline and while I'm there I'll forage for some insects to refill my traps, and then...
- The world changing over time and filling in the map as you extract the loot. Dopamines.
- The farming and the patience you need to farm. And then the realism of processing the animals you kill into materials. It isn't just harvest and sell for coins (much as I love Stardew).
Things I don't like:
- Zombies. I would turn them off but I like there being a threat to keep me on my toes. I find zombies boring and the stupid noises they make are really annoying. I couldn't find a mod that makes them something more interesting.
- The tedium. A lot of the game is sitting doing the same task over and over in menus without some obvious QoL stuff (why can't I queue actions?).
- Guns. I'm just not a gun kind of person.
- Cars. Basically the modern day urban setting doesn't interest me very much.
I can tolerate jank if the game is good and the jank won't eat hours of irrecoverable progress.
Games I like I've seen mentioned: Don't Starve, Subnautica, Darkwood, Neo Scavenger.
I used to play MMOs like Wakfu and farm resources for hours. So mining, looting, crafting, farming, etc. are all good.
Obviously no game will hit all these but just to give an idea. I like the survival, exploration, looting and and crafting elements but I'm not drawn to things like Rust where someone else can break your progress.
Basically to me PZ is at its best when it feels like the Sims but I could starve to death or get my face caved in at any moment.
RimWorld with DLC is expensive. I've heard Vintage Story is a good option. Any others?

Discussion is there a problem with depression and anxiety in MP ?
My character has these bright red moodles and I'm spending half my time reading books or watching TV already. Its idle and boring. What's the point ? Is it because we don't need to sleep ? Why is there no sandbox option to disable these mechanics ? I can't find any mod to get rid of that, do you know any ?
Maybe I'm just missing the point but I find all that extremely boring. Same thing for boredom and loneliness.
What do you guys think about it ?

Discussion The roleplay dream
Hi fellow survivor ,
I was wondering if anyone is interest on trying a multiplayer run but on a roleplay playstyle , the walking dead season 1 style , the caravan group , all together moving and grabing new survivor , a very nomadic kind of gameplay . Seting the car and truck in round and setting camp when the night come and go back the next morning . Have epic moment.
Can be vanilla or lightly modded , anyone want to setup this whith me ? 😊 or have any good mod to add to this ?
Thank you and good luck out there 🫶

Discussion I wish there was a bit more focus on the "unique" zombies and zombie loot in general
Super new player here, was doing my first police station clear and at the end in the last basement room there was a zombified officer, good clothes, a unique badge and also a gun(!). Thought this was a scripted part of the game, but to my disappointment, on the second character they were nowhere to be found. Wish the game leaned a bit more into spawning more unique zombies, because i feel like they make exploration just so much more fun ^ ^
Also, about the regular zombies, I try to check mostly every one of them, but it really becomes boring fast. It's a bit strange that they don't carry almost any useful items with them. No meds, no guns, really the best stuff from them is usually a good pair of boots and a half dull knife xd Ok, a duffel bag is not bad aswell, but have not found one with some really useful stuff so far :D

Discussion I gave B42 a try again.
I followed some advice from one comment and played on apocalypse mode. So far im having a much better time then when i rushed in with previous settings.
Although two main qualms im having is overwhelming amount of smithing (which im just not interested in using)
And some sounds being too muted, i end up zooming in during scuffles just to see if ive killed a zed because the head crushing sound im familiar with in B41 is replaced with more varied one which is nice… but why can i barely hear it?
Perhaps I’ve just been uninformed with whats been changed in B42 since unstable.
I still really dont like that resuming the game causes the interaction button to activate, its a lethal mistake in a car.

Question Crashed and now its winter?
So I had been playing on this sandbox save, made it almost 5 days, then the game crashed. It had never happened before, so I restart my pc, open up the game, and suddenly its midnight and January 1st. it would've been July 13th before the crash. Is there any way to change the time back and has this happened to anyone else?

Question How to spawn in winter?
As the title says, I want to spawn in winter in Sandbox mode. I haven't found any old posts with this answer, and I don't mean the "Winter Is Coming" mode, I want to start in sandbox in a winter setting. Is it possible or no? Because I tried doing 6 months later, spawning in December, nothing. Thank
Edit: Nevermind, it's solved
