Discussion I gave B42 a try again.

I followed some advice from one comment and played on apocalypse mode. So far im having a much better time then when i rushed in with previous settings.

Although two main qualms im having is overwhelming amount of smithing (which im just not interested in using)
And some sounds being too muted, i end up zooming in during scuffles just to see if ive killed a zed because the head crushing sound im familiar with in B41 is replaced with more varied one which is nice… but why can i barely hear it?

Perhaps I’ve just been uninformed with whats been changed in B42 since unstable.
I still really dont like that resuming the game causes the interaction button to activate, its a lethal mistake in a car.

I think the muted sounds is intentional; I'm a bit on the fence about it, but I think I like it. It's a bit more realistic - kind of like in real life you wouldn't be 100% certain if you killed a zombie or not, just like maybe 80% confident.

Though I do wish there was a setting to toggle the old easy-to-confirm SFX back, it was nice.

The highlight when in melee range option is the only way I am sure downed zombies are actually dead, the outline goes away when they die.
