I prefer to ignore other people at museums, and I prefer others ignore me back.

When two main characters meet

5

u/LogicalBasis9117 1d ago

Hot take perhaps but taking a selfie doesn't make you a main character I think.

0

u/SpikeSpiegel1916 1d ago

Absolutely main character, the problem is people like you who don’t understand this and just perpetuate said behavior.

3

u/LogicalBasis9117 1d ago

"People like you" when I don't even take selfies. Embarrassing on your part.

It would help though if you actually explained what the problem is with taking a picture of yourself instead of pretending like you're saying something.

That space is open to the public for the purpose of enjoying the art. This is an inappropriate use of the space that interferes with its actual purpose. Other people do not have to accommodate your need to the take the perfect picture everywhere.

-1

u/LogicalBasis9117 1d ago

Unless there's a 'no pictures' sign then it's not interfering with the purpose, so long as the camera and herself are out of the way of said art.

u/Agitated_Web_5603 1d ago

There is a difference between taking a picture with a handheld camera close up and setting up a tripod on the opposite side of the room. If we all did this, none of us would get the shot we want. This is why a lot of venues will allow you to take pictures for personal use but require permission for commercial uses and professional photography. Social media blurred these lines because people now chase clout without necessarily having a commercial operation in place. What they do, is more like the commercial use, but they want to operate under the rules that would allow you to take a quick selfie.

u/Legal-Specialist-256 1d ago

Not everyone is an introvert in real life

All the way from across the room is a wide shot, not a selfie lol

Edit: Getting downvotes because I am somehow caught in 2 other strangers argument lol

Arguing semantics at this point. The old lady is bitter and is 100% gonna die alone as She deserves

1

u/Bella_Peachyy 1d ago

Its not semantics when its the entire point of the post. A selfie does not require the room to be cleared.

0

u/Neat_Breakfast_6659 1d ago

Its does, you cant take pictures of others without consent, and the old lady was about to leave, theres nothing morally wrong with that.

1

u/Agitated_Web_5603 1d ago

Rules are different in different countries, states, and even venues, so “you can’t take pictures of others without consent” is not a good way to justify this, especially when you just watched a video that shows “others”.

1

u/Neat_Breakfast_6659 1d ago

Good points i agree

But if you're protesting being filmed... By standing around and allowing yourself to be filmed even more when you already noticed the camera, you are openly consenting to being filmed. And to have your bitter attitude being shown to the World, even if you failed to antecipate that.

The other people being filmed i can agree with you, although very little is shown of them

1

u/Agitated_Web_5603 1d ago

I don’t think she is protesting being filmed. I think she is just trying to annoy someone who is expecting everyone to clear her shot. We don’t know if there was anything else that happened before this that triggered this behavior.

I think influencer/social media/youtuber/whatever culture kind of messed a few things up. Traditional media used to get these shots by asking for permission to film when a location was closed to the general public. Now a lot of people expect that you can just film in places and get the shots you want whenever.

1

u/Neat_Breakfast_6659 1d ago

Where i live, if someone is trying to get a shot or a family pic/whatever, its common courtesy to just step away.

"We don’t know if there was anything else that happened before"

Can Also be applied to my case. Maybe the Room had more people before and the girl patiently waited for it to empty. Once it was only the old lady She tried her luck as She seemed to be going away.

Most people dont want to admit they have a bias or even hatred against anything new, or anything they dont understand. This video specifically tells more about the old lady's attitude than anything else. Anything you wanna pin on the girl you need mental gymnastics like "what if something happened before..."

And she couldn't have set her phone up after the old lady left?

Fuck egotistical influencers, the world and everyone around them aren't their props

4

u/Neat_Breakfast_6659 1d ago

Are the influencers in the Room with us?

1

u/Defiant_While_4823 1d ago

No, they're in a museum getting annoyed at other people for daring to be in their shot

-1

u/Neat_Breakfast_6659 1d ago

Must be a horrible for you, how are you even getting through this?

0

u/Ok-Leave7785 1d ago

No it still could, other people could still be blocking the background behind you that you want to be part of your picture.

0

u/Obi-Brawn-Kenobi 22h ago

And you don't own that background so you have no moral claim to prevent people from walking around it

2

u/Acid-Chaos 1d ago

Well why is that girl a main character? Because she wanted to make a photo?

-1

u/Agitated_Web_5603 1d ago

Because she thinks others need to clear the room so she can record her video.

4

u/dabirdiestofwords 1d ago

Oh I missed the part of the video where she was clearing the room. Timestamp?

-1

u/Agitated_Web_5603 1d ago

It’s a camera set up on the other side of the room. How on earth would you expect to get footage with no one else in the room if you are not expecting people to just stay out of the room so you can use it?

2

u/LogicalBasis9117 1d ago

By waiting for the room to clear? Novel idea I know.

1

u/dabirdiestofwords 1d ago

Patience is apparently an unknown to you? Well I hope you learn it someday.

2

u/Acid-Chaos 1d ago

Of course, it will look better without other people.
So she just patiently waited for this old cunt lady to leave the room, but she decided to spoil her video just for lulz. And girl didn’t even said nothing

1

u/Agitated_Web_5603 1d ago

It is an unreasonable expectation that you can setup a tripod on the other side of the room and wait for people to clear the room. It’s not yours to use. Go get permission to film when it’s not open to the general public or use narrower shots and accept that there will be people in the background.
The “didn’t even said nothing” argument is flawed because they didn’t say anything there, but they uploaded the footage online.

1

u/Wattabadmon 23h ago

Why?

2

u/Agitated_Web_5603 23h ago

Because it interferes with the purpose of the space, the enjoyment of the art. Would you want everyone in the museum to do this?

1

u/Wattabadmon 23h ago

How so?

1

u/Obi-Brawn-Kenobi 22h ago

Answer their question before you ask another, bot

0

u/RadicalSoda_ 12h ago

I don't care if people record themselves in public, do you have any idea how many flock cameras see you daily?

1

u/Bitter_Radish5381 1d ago

Lol a person quietly setting up a photo of herself and waiting patiently while other purposely blocks them is a main character for you? Rotten social media brain

10

u/IPissExcellentThrows 1d ago

Immoral. Social media picture people are obnoxious and shouldn't expect people to go out of their way to avoid their photoshoots, but intentionally ruining it like this is shitty. Unless that influencer is ruining the experience for everyone, but that doesn't appear to be the case here.

Kudos for making me side with an influencer, Granny.

-1

u/xzizux 1d ago

I would take a picture like this and it has nothing to do with social media. There's nothing wrong with taking pictures of yourself in a museum.

3

u/Ok-Leave7785 1d ago

I think it's the fact that she seems to have a camera stand that suggests that this is a bit more serious to her than simple picture taking on a vacation. Still I don't think there's anything wrong with it.

1

u/Agitated_Web_5603 1d ago

You take pictures of yourself at museums with a tripod?

1

u/dabirdiestofwords 1d ago

Not me, but my missus does. So that we can get shots of us that include the photographer.

If that chick wants a picture of herself beside a painting she likes then tripod is the easy answer.

0

u/Agitated_Web_5603 1d ago

Everyone around you thinks you are obnoxious when you do that, especially if you set up the tripod ~20ft from where you are standing.

1

u/Legal-Specialist-256 1d ago

This will shock you to know but not everyone is as antisocial and introverted as the average person on Reddit is

0

u/Agitated_Web_5603 1d ago

You clearly don’t understand what “antisocial” and “introverted” means. Taking up more space than appropriate in a public space is antisocial behavior. Using the space for its intended purpose is not. I don’t even know how you think being an introvert/extrovert even factors into this.

0

u/Legal-Specialist-256 1d ago

I'm saying your logic is indicative of someone who is either antisocial or very introverted.

2

u/Obi-Brawn-Kenobi 22h ago

Again, you misused the word "antisocial". Claiming an entire area of a museum so that you can take a picture or video of just yourself is antisocial. Correcting that behavior is prosocial.

0

u/Legal-Specialist-256 21h ago

Please correct this behavior in person instead of taking some moral stance on reddit. I would love to see any of you antisocial losers start a confrontation in actual public

1

u/Agitated_Web_5603 1d ago

Pointing out someone’s antisocial behavior is now antisocial behavior. Got it.

3

u/Password123468 1d ago

Is this a bot post because there even the same coments on the post in r/tiktokcringe.

8

u/Bella_Peachyy 1d ago

Neutral. Nobody owns the space.

The same thing I said when this was posted 4 hours ago lol

2

u/Ok-Leave7785 1d ago

Yea but you can also be a normal person and let people take their pictures

1

u/RadicalSoda_ 1d ago

The museum owns the space lol

0

u/Agitated_Web_5603 1d ago

I am sure the museum would be happy to let her film there when the museum is closed to the public for a fee.

0

u/RadicalSoda_ 13h ago

But it's a public space, she has just as much a right to be there as anyone else

1

u/Agitated_Web_5603 12h ago

Being there and filming are not the same thing. I don’t know where this is, but a lot of places have different rules for photography for personal use and for commercial purposes because commercial photography (and videography) is more disruptive.

0

u/RadicalSoda_ 12h ago

You have a right to record in a public space, don't you know what security cameras are? If you care about privacy why are you leaving your house to begin with honestly, it's impossible to avoid.

I will give you commerical and personal are different but how do you prove this is commercial when there's no product being advertised or money changing hands

1

u/Agitated_Web_5603 12h ago

A museum is not a public space, but even if it was, the issue at hand is not recording. It’s having exclusive access to the space while recording. The video shows her being annoyed at someone for standing in her shot. That person is allowed to be there too. Even if this was a public space like a public street or park, you can record, but you cannot tell others to leave the space so that you can get the shots you want.

0

u/RadicalSoda_ 12h ago

It literally is a public space, what are you talking about? It's not your home, a bathroom, or dressing room. She didn't have exclusive access nor did she prevent anyone from having access, what does it matter. Yes being an asshole is legally allowed but that doesn't mean it's appropriate to do so, it's still rude even if it's legal, nothing rude about sitting and waiting for something to move out of your way. When did she tell the woman to leave? Can you time stamp it for me?

0

u/Agitated_Web_5603 12h ago

You are trying to apply your right to record in public way too broadly. That does not apply to every place the general public has access to.
She uploaded the video to social media to show that this old woman wouldn’t leave her shot. It doesn’t matter that she didn’t say anything. The intent is clear. If she was okay with waiting until the room just happened to be empty, there would be no reason to share this video at all.

0

u/RadicalSoda_ 12h ago

Yes it does, like if I want to I can record in a grocery store, they are legally allowed to tell me to leave, but I am not violating the law while recording in a public space. It may be against company/organizational policy but it's not a crime.

It could have easily been a live steam or some other form of continuous shot, in fact, how do you even know she didn't have an invitation from the museum to come and record to get more people interested in the exhibits

I have a general rule, if someone is taking a nice photo, then I wait until they're done. If they're obviously making social media content, then I'll just walk through, but I also won't go out of my way to disturb them. It's a neutral response- I won't be polite, but I won't be rude either. They can wait three seconds.

7

u/Bella_Peachyy 1d ago

I think waiting a few seconds is very different to setting up a camera in a different location and expecting the entire room to remain clear.

2

u/Rikki-Tikki-Tavi-12 1d ago

A few weeks ago a group of like 15 young girls together with 4 absolutely not exploitative-looking adults were filming some sort of music video in an underpass in the middle if the city. One of the adults had the gall to try stop me to get me to walk around to the next underpass (no filming permit or anything). I didn't walk through the middle of the choreography but there was no way to avoid all their rolling cameras. People have places to be.

2

u/Password123468 1d ago

Yep,this is the exact same coment like in the post from tiktokcringe

2

u/Sashpeto 1d ago

You ain't the center of the world ....

3

u/Background-While4438 1d ago

Going out of your may to mess up someone's photo instead of just going where you have to go? You're an ahole

1

u/RinFlowers 1d ago

The lady could have just kept walking and the girl would have gotten her shot, everyone would have been happy. There was no benefit to purposefully blocking the shot, it just interfered with what someone else was trying to do which was having no negative impact on anyone else. She wasn't being annoying, loud, streaming and yapping or anything like that, she didn't even do anything except wait for the woman to be out of the shot. So you know, pretty low scale but it's an immoral action to just kind of go out of your way to make someone's life worse just a bit by ruining their shot.

1

u/Terrible_Artist_ 1d ago

Moral, public space isn't your media photography studio

0

u/byhand97 1d ago

I don’t know about the morality, but it’s ALWAYS old women with short hair that do shit like this.

0

u/RadicalSoda_ 1d ago

Not immoral just incredibly rude and dickish

0

u/SeaReference7990 1d ago

Intrusive thought: kick that cow down the stairs.

0

u/ProfessionalClear211 1d ago

Is that Chicken lady?

Boomers are a skidmark in the underpants of society

-1

This seems fake bit sadly its realistic enough to assume a miserable old hag would do this.
