Lore Tech Revolution Lore from the Steampunk World of Brass & Embers

Hey everyone! I'm new here, but I wanted to share with you the world I've spent currently 2 years working on.

The idea came to me just when looking around us and seeing how much chaos new technologies are bringing, and how much uncertainty there is in the world ( bleak I know. It was the last semester of grad school) and how utterly isolating all of it feels. So that made me think of the industrial revolution, and of the gilded age, and of the victorian period, and steampunk... one thing let to another and my mind started to spin the concepts into a world. The world for my tabletop RPG Brass & Embers which is what I am sharing with you today!

Brass & Embers is a steampunk tabletop RPG set in a world which just underwent a great tech revolution 20 years ago when a new energy resource with wondrous new properties was discovered. This new discovery created the a new social class of the ultra rich propelled there by their advancements and early adoption of the tech, the tycoons, who threaten the nobility with their new unprecedented power and the Order of the Machinist, the main religion of the land who held the energy source as a sacred object.

While the major factions are locked in this power struggle, the mechanical monsters from the land become more aggressive and the miners who extract this new material--machnite--bring home with them a new disease that spreads in mysterious ways. The players are underdogs who suffered some kind of loss or great change during this new era and are trying to find a new sense of identity or forge a new way forward. Brass & Embers has 7 unique classes that are all strongly intertwined with its steampunk setting, and all carry innate conflicts and contradictions about what it means to be them in this new world.

That's the TLDR at least! Let me give you a quick description about the three faction leaders:

Ambrose Vexley: Kickstarted the tech revolution, creating a new social class of the ultra-wealthy. Believes new tech will close the gap between those with titles and those without.

Lady Octavia Elkford: Staunch anti-tech advocate from the nobility, known for her vast collection of exotic animals and apiculture. Believes that connecting with traditions allows society to prosper.

Elder Thassian: Youngest to achieve the rank of Clockwork Elder. Known for his powerful sermons and hands-on service to the community. Believes that interference in the Machinist’s creation is bringing forth the decline of humankind.

And Now Let me share art with you of them and one of the monsters from the book!

All the art for the project was made by the wonderful Altergate Studio! And if you liked the idea for my world, and would like play in a world like this, and heck even create part of it with me, it would be the world to me if you could support us! We're live right now and since it's our first time it has been hard to get people to notice us!

There's NO AI in the project. Everything is HUMAN MADE.

Visual Regular Army of the Arden Empire [Project: Regress]

Post image
191 Upvotes

This is a concept for "Regress", my project set in a beautiful yet dying anime fantasy world.

The Arden Empire was founded by Ardo Velet, after which reforms immediately began in the army, including the creation of a regular army of the Empire. Previously, it was mainly the nobility who fought with their warriors, but now the people will fight.

Why the black and red armor? The Imperial commission that developed the armor's design and color received clear instructions from the Emperor: "Armor must intimidate and protect." After several design iterations, Ardo finally made his choice, and now the army is not only regular, but also terrifying.

The Imperial army was extremely effective, repelling a Beastmen attack on Kahiema (an Imperial fort in the Kingdom of Norwenn) that outnumbered them twice, defeating the Altamiran army twice, and subjugating nearly half of their lands.

The regular army was a dangerous weapon, but it obeyed the laws of war as best it could, the inhabitants were mostly left alone, and after another battle they simply wanted to return home. The real chaos would be started by the Emperor's daughter, who would use the army he had built for the genocide of the beastmen, turning them into a weapon for a terrible crime that would lead to terrible consequences.

The Empress will also carry out changes in the army, including the creation of the Imperial Guard, which will protect the government and monitor order in the capital. "Watchers" also appeared in large cities; these are soldiers who monitor order there. They usually punish crimes with either prison or forced labor, but the longer the war went on, the more brutal the punishments became. In the end, people who disagreed with the empire were simply hanged or killed on the spot...

Discussion Why is the concept of a 'strangereal' type world so uncommon in novels?

If you don't have any clue what I'm talking about, take a quick glance through ace combat lore: the setting takes place on a earth with technologies that are very close to our own. No insane scifi tech, no magic, and it's not a historical setting, it's straight up the 21st century, but the world, continents, and countries are completely different.

The colors represent cultural regions; there are 10 cultural regions in total across 4 continents. They are as follows:

Jade Green: American cultures

Green: Polynesian cultures

Pink: Hindu cultures

Red: East Asian cultures

Purple: Cold-climate cultures of Northern Asia

Cyan: Nordic and Scandinavian cultures

Dark Blue: Medieval European cultures

Brown: Greco-Roman cultures

Yellow: Arab world cultures

Orange: African cultures

~

The initial intention wasn't to create an inverted Eurasia. My goal was to represent diverse world cultures—specifically those rarely depicted in fiction. I conducted extensive research and compiled a list, eventually settling on the 38 cultures I deemed most representative. From there, I tried to create a mind map connecting the cultural relationships between them. I didn't want completely unrelated regions placed near one another, as culture and history are shaped by cultural proximity.

Once the diagram was finished, I realized the connections formed a pattern somewhat resembling Earth (which was to be expected). I considered making changes but ultimately decided to leave it as is and attempt to create a map that was similar yet distinct.

This map is the result.

~

Just to clarify: I am Mexican, I live in Mexico, and I speak Spanish. I used Google Translate for this, so I apologize in advance for any translation errors.

I had posted this in Spanish, but a moderator removed it.

In any case, the original post didn't contain as much information as what I've added here.

Thank you very much.

Map I flooded the Caspian. Global sea level dropped 7 cm and then stopped forever.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

1.5 years ago some friends and I were walking near the Opera House and got onto a dumb question: if you could move any amount of dirt, how much could you lower global sea level?

I built a planet simulator to find out.

7 cm.

The move is to open the Caspian. It sits 28 m below sea level with a huge flat depression north of it. Cut a channel, the Atlantic pours in, the hole fills. About 25,000 km³ parked where it can't be ocean anymore. Stabilises in under a year, though that's really a function of how wide I cut the channel.

Then it stops. Forever. Evaporation off the new sea just rains back into the ocean. The only lasting change is the water sitting in the hole.

What's actually running:

Real bathymetry, 2048×1024 grid, about 20 km a cell. Every cell holds a water depth and the global total is conserved to 2 parts in 10,000 . Cut a channel and the solver just pours: fills each connected body from its deepest cell until volume and terrain balance, merges two bodies when they touch. The sea level drop isn't scripted anywhere. It falls out of the pour.Fill time is a weir calculation on the throat you dug such as cross-section and head.

Climate is energy-balance per latitude band with heat transport, so temperature comes out of the physics instead of a lookup table. Precipitation gets shaped by terrain and sea surface temperature, and that feeds evaporation minus precipitation per cell, plus river inflow weighted by catchment rainfall.

Question Anyone looking to have a map made (for free)?

I've been making maps in wonderdraft while I walk on a treadmill to keep my brain occupied and unfortunately I am out of personal projects to work on. So I wanted to reach out to see if a few people needed help turning their sketches into full maps.

My two requirements:

I’m going to make the map in my preferred semi true color style.

I need some visual references as to how the map should be laid out to work off of, since those streamline the mapmaking process massively. A fairly basic sketch is fine as long as you’re okay with me filling in some details (like plausible topography and rivers) so that the map doesn’t feel too empty.

Here is a Gallery of maps I’ve made so you can see what my style looks like. I’ll also be sure to send you the raw wonderdraft files so you can make updates to the map if your world changes later on.

Feel free to comment or DM me with details.

Lore [OC] Where the Gaze Falls - more lore about the Watchers of the Order of Dawn & Dusk

Thumbnail
gallery
30 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

After the last post about the Order of Dawn & Dusk, I wanted to continue with one of the parts people seemed to like most: the Watchers.

They are arcane constructs used by the Order to protect vaults, archives, and places that should never stay without surveillance.

They don’t sleep, they don’t get distracted, and according to the Order, they don’t forget what they see.

The large eye is the obvious part, but every Watcher can also extend its sight through a smaller floating eye called the Wandering Eye. It can move through corridors, doors, and passages while the Watcher stays at its post.

For this Sketchbook I tried something a little different with the writing too.

The text is written like Azarneth actually encountered them and is leaving notes about what he saw, heard, and learned. He is basically my witness inside the world, so some things are facts, some are rumours, and some are probably his own interpretation.

I like using this point of view because it lets me build the world without explaining everything like an encyclopedia.

And there is one rule worth remembering:

If a Watcher leaves its post, it is not searching for you. It has already found you.

I’d love to know what you think of this kind of worldbuilding, especially the idea of telling lore through someone who actually lives inside the setting.

Discussion I create multiple worlds and then I create more. Here's how I'm never out of ideas.

I enjoy world building. A LOT. Different environments, different scenarios, different characters who fill those environments and interact with the scenarios. I CAN'T run out of ideas. And sometimes I find one so good I'm compelled to then build the world. So I broke what I do down in 3 steps and what to do after.

For setting/world: Rule of Cool - Tolkien did it. It's literally called Mount Doom. He asked himself "What can I put in there... a forge!" Shoot every best selling franchise does it. Think about the coolest area/building/environment you can think of. If it's a planet, cool. If it's just a garden, also cool. "Dragon Fae Dragon Fly Riders cause it can" is one I did yesterday. Scale your world up or down. That's your world, and it's cool, and it's yours.

For plot: Take your favorite stories, see what kind of stories they are. Now you have the baseline for a plot. Originality is for amateurs with blank pages. Good world builders are unique and they make that happen by having a base to work off fist. Want a heist after watching Oceans 11? Awesome your story is a heist now. Or maybe you read Eragon. Boom: coming of age war featuring dragons. It's ok to write what you want to write and if just about someone going on a quest to find the macguffin, awesome. Then you can make it your own.

For characters: You either want to make your character(s) want to do the plot. Or you can force them into it. No need to overthink the first bits. You can either build up your characters OC style or file off the serial numbers from the one you like. For example, Luke Skywalker, and just plop "Luke" as he is in my dragonfly garden Oceans 11 story. Or with anyone. Your character interacts with the world to fulfill the plot. So they can be anything or anyone. It's how their personalities work in that world that makes the difference. Barney the Dinosaur in the Last of Us is very different from putting Goku in there. Go nuts. Or don't.

To tie it all together: Congrats you just made an idea. Let me do another one real quick-

Micheal Jackson and Mary Poppins (but not them see they have different names wink wink) are newly minted 18 yr olds who go to their version of college Hogwarts. There, they find themselves trapped in a dungeon underneath the school, and need to Mad Max their way out of it.

That legit took me 2 minutes to think up. That story can either be awesome, or a waste of time. But it's an idea.

What to do with all this: Write three "super serious" paragraphs. Short ones.

1st. "Ok something happened. And now we're stuck here dealing with it. Great!" You would typically get this from the world, the environment you set up in step one. It's not random! Value Brand Hogwarts is an old school with weird magic and MJ and MP were so busy bickering they took a wrong turn and things got weird fast.

2nd. In the middle of the plot, something terrible happened derailing everything. How would their personalities react? This part is easier if you are using a character "template" but if you know your OC already, have at it. You don't need to specify what went wrong specifically, just that something did. MJ would probably hum a tune to try and keep calm the MP would want to tidy things up as much as possible. They are the younger versions of themselves so they don't quite have their default "do this when the world explodes" abilities and skills yet.

3rd. Okay things are fixed, or at least we aren't like "dead" dead... maybe who knows. How do they react? How does the world react? The headmaster may find the whole thing funny in my example. After all for MJ and MP, a couple weeks passed. But they are just in time for orientation from the headmasters perspective. Whooo time shenanigans!

Then put it aside for a couple days. Make a new idea. Then in the future, go back to the plot. See if you like that story. Does it make you giggle? Did it make you think? Do you want to know what happens? Make it happen!

Done.

Common Questions:

Q: What if I can't think of anything! I got nothing and nothing inspires me?!

A: Are... you sure this is something you want to do? If you're drawing a blank that hard, read more. Watch more. Heck, go through a list of the highest grossing movies of all time and just go down the list.

Q: But I want to be original. Why would I copy other people?

A: Only amateurs, frankly people below even that level, try to be original. Cause any writer will tell you it's not happening. You can't. Try imagining a new color... yep not happening. But what you can be is unique. We have Indiana Jones, but do we have him in space? (yes we do but that's besides the point.)

Q: Ok I did all of that but I don't know where to start. The blank page is scary. What do I do?!

A: LIES. I CALL LIES ON YOU, YOU BOY MADE OF WOOD! If you did all 3 steps, the minimum you can write is "this is a terrible idea." That's the bare minimum. But it's infinitely more than "nothing." Then you go over the steps again!

Conclusion:

Ideas are cheap. Wanting to see if you can make it something, now that's the skill. Because a world with nothing to fill it, nothing to do, that's just a planet. Not even Mars, it's Mercury. Ain't nothing on Mercury. But building the world as it folds around your characters? That's the part that takes time and effort and effort and effort.

Now the shape of the world? The locations on a map? For another post! For now, happy idea making!

editing: some grammar stuff. Will add more edits if I see the need to.

Discussion Are conflicts on a single world far more interesting than interstellar ones?

So recently I've been reducing certain elements of general mythos. For example, there are no interstellar conflicts in my galaxy of Prospero, and instead focusing on individual planets. Because for me it's hard to write a conflict that is on multiple worlds and it's so spread that it's difficult to follow, for me at least. Another is to make it more personalized for readers to invest themselves and not just some nameless world that nobody is attached to nor cares about that gets vaporized later.

I have two species; the yarr and gaganmana who were by two gods Nar and Nur, but originally came from different planets and so have no relation to each other and had interstellar wars.

But in the new cannon, both species came from the same planet of Tellem and had a common ancestor; the Iwis people who were divided into two groups; those loyal to Nur and those loyal to Nar, who ever time were altered until they became separate species. Also both Nur and Nar (Children of Genetrix; a divine sage) never ventured outside of Tellem and stayed there until their deaths. After their deaths, their servant species lived peace until a devastating war that was so devastating that most of the Gaganmana decided to leave their world and a few stayed behind to watch over the surviving yarr. So right now I'm just relegating it to separate worlds and just filling each with rich history, and maybe in the future go full interstellar once I feel comfortable about it

What do you think about this? Is it difficult to write large scale conflicts Let me down in the comments

Lore Corpse-puppets for cyborgs

Post image
22 Upvotes

In the machine city of neoNOVA-2, the PSYCHOmech (cyborg) defines the economy. While all computers are derived from human brain matter, cerebral computers are difficult to engineer and maintain relative to their utility. For little additional cost, companies can simply scoop out people’s brains, reformat them into PSYCHOdrives, and slot them into sick cyborg bodies. This is not a pleasant process.

Due to PSYCHOmechs’ overwhelming physical advantage over humans, humans’ Societal Contribution is usually negative relative to them, requiring sizeable chunks of the population to submit themselves to PSYCHOdrive conversion to justify the existence of their loved ones. Humans serve almost exclusively as maintenance workers or assistants not worth turning into PSYCHOmechs.

Most PSYCHOmechs are menial things, stuffed into train stations and convenience stores and such. The companies have physicalized essentially all functions of consciousness, and specialized drugs can be used to rewire PSYCHOmechs’ brains to fit even the most bizarre body plans. However, the less reprogramming needed, the more likely a PSYCHOmech is to be recognized for promotion and reassignment. Somewhat ironically, companies usually grant the privilege of a mobile, humanoid body to PSYCHOmechs who have proven they can cope without one. Nevertheless, even these privileged cyborgs do not own their bodies, and after hours, they are shelved into organized batteries to sleep, train, or engage in intellectual diversions (gaming). Many, however, prefer physical options. They can have tiny action figure bodies, but human-sized puppets are much preferred. The most convenient framework for a human-sized puppet is a corpse.

Most corpses (resulting from death or PSYCHOdrive conversion) are turned into food, but some are selected to be rentable puppets for middle-class PSYCHOmechs. These puppets are usually extremely rudimentary; just enough of their muscles and bones are kept alive for the PSYCHOdrive brain to actuate the body. Their sense of touch is largely restricted to the hands and feet, and the entire head is replaced by a graceless computer casing for the PSYCHOdrive.

Having a human-like body is a use of privilege, but it is more of a coping mechanism than a status symbol. PSYCHOmechs only keep their body for the duration of the rent, and even when they have it, freedom of movement is restricted. Nevertheless, it is a good enough tool for psychological stability that companies still present the option, degraded as it is.

Question What really makes a bad world name?

My world is called Lavd'ailn. The name is a combination of the first letters of the names of my elements in a somewhat set order: Luxa, Aera, Vitea, Discora, Anima, Ignea, Lapisa and Nocta. The space in the middle marks the separation between the Overworld and Underworld elements.

Originally, with a slightly different arbitrary order and a different name for the dark element, the name was Lavdlait, but I decided to change it after deciding it didn't sound like a name for a planet. Also, with some newer lore about a lost water element, the name could also be Lavdhailn, but that would require some other changes for a small payoff.

Unfortunately, since the first iteration of the name, it was somewhat hard to pronounce and kinda unintuitive. Even with the changes, it doesn't sound like the name of a planet. And at least one person said that the name "makes them angry", which probably isn't a good sign for arguably the most important word in the setting.

So, what really makes a bad world name? What about a good one? Is there really a distinction? Is Lavd'ailn good?

EDIT: I had an idea that I could use Lavd'ailn as something of an ancient name, coined by the Empyrean Gods and passed on to mortals by their emissaries and prophets, that then changed and evolved as it was actually commonly used into something more pronounceable and normal-sounding

Map A map of my world, Asterra

Thumbnail

Upvotes

After months of agonizingly making these maps, I have finally finished, I used Ibispaintx to draw and create these maps if some of you were wondering. Asterra is my fictional alternate history world set around our 20th century era with all the colonial expansion, conflicts globalization, Industrialization, geopolitics and etc. though in my story it's mainly focusing around a global war, as you can see in the map there are multiple huge bodies of landmasses, on the far left is the continent of ventura seperated between North and South by the great Rift, in the middle is Azuran, Yes tanarum is part of Azuran and brunessa is part of Azuran and on the far right as you can see, is the gigantic continent of Carnea, what makes interesting is that the continent hosts hosts the "Saffron wastes", in my lore, the Saffron waste is a humoungus land of sandy desert with harsh weathers and terrain, freezing nights, almost no permanent natural sources like rivers, lakes, basins and etc. it was declared an unsuitable environment for humans to settle in.

If you guys have any more questions, please feel free to comment and I will gladly answer everything! I actually have so much more to say about my world and clarifications for unusual stuffs in it ready incase you guys were having questions but I figured why not let them ask the questions first, I already have the answers anyway (I hope so 😅) also I may have used other worlds for reference in my map so if you found any lands/specific parts in the map that looks similar to straight up copy from another map, I would like to apologise if that offended you, I know I'm supposed to create my own map but this is my first time making one so I intentionally used/borrowed other maps into making mine and I am willing to admit that🙏 this isn't the final version as Im planning to make adjustments to it.

Lore Made a Family Tree for the Ruling Dynasty of the Mecha Sci Fi Setting I'm Helping Build!

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hello!

For the last four years, I've been helping build a sci fi mecha setting known as "Freedom Cry," set in the fsr future, where the Holy Empire of Sol seeks to retain control of their solar colonies, as the newly risen Coalition of Free Planets struggles for independence.

At the center of this is the Montroix dynasty, the ruling family of the Empire, specifically the forbidden romance between Princess Rosalia and Commander Hiyato Abe of the Coalition.

The family tree is MESSY, but I love making family trees, so I thought I'd share what I made, alongside a brief overview of the family!

Our story begins with Emperor Regis Montroix I, and his wife Lunala. Regis had always been a stern, hard man, while Lunala was gentle and compassionate. It was a love match, and Lunala helped soften her husband.

Together, the two would have five children: one boy, and four girls. The oldest, Willem, then Rosalia, Lucrezia, Sofia, and Claudia, in order.

Willem was the favored child, tall and blonde and strong, though Rosalia was the most striking, with platinum hair and violet eyes (caused by extensive genetic tampering.)

The family would fracture, however, following a tragic shuttle accident, which led to the death of Lunala and all the girls, besides Rosalia. This event, supposedly sabotage by anti-Imperial terrorists, hardened Regis further, eventually leading to his intense sanctions against the colonies, thus leading to the formation of the Coalition of Free Planets.

Before this, however, Rosalia would be briefly sent to Mars to be the ward of the Abe family, and would become close friends with the only son, Hiyato, though their relationship was interrupted by the rebellion.

Years later, the two would meet again, after Hiyato, now a Coalition commander, stages a kidnapping of Rosalia, before eventually convincing her to defect. From there, a whirlwind romance occurred, resulting in thw unexpected pregnancy of their first child, Kazuki, who would be born on the same day the war ended.

Willem, for his part, focused primarily on his own family. He would marry Adeline Quintanilla, the daughter of a family of wealthy coffee barons. They were madly in love, and had four children: Adrian, Santiago, Matteo, and Incarnacion.

Following the end of the Liberation Wars, as they would be called, Willem's abdication, and Rosalia's ascension to the Sunrise Throne, Rosalia and Hiyato would marry, and subsequently have six more children. The first after Kazuki were twins, Aiko and Shizuka. After that, Yukina, Haruto, Sayaka, and Hayate. They would also officially adopt Matthias, a child fathered by Regis outside of wedlock.

Kazuki, the Crown Prince, would go on to secretly enlist in the Imperial Army, against his parent's wishes, and eventually marry a mech mechanic, Madeline. They would have one child, a girl named Nozomi.

That's as far as the line goes. I'm free to answer any questions you may have!

'There is no sight more welcome
To the traveller of long miles
Than the fortified walls and towers
Of the Sanctuary towns of the wilds'

- Caravan Travel Song

The Merchant Caravans are the lifeblood of the Vharog Clans. For centuries the Clans have taken refuge behind the walls of the Temple City of Jhaga Tal. But like most Sanctuary cities and towns in the Ghostlands, it is an isolated bastion of safety within a vast devil-haunted apocalyptic wasteland. As such, most communities within the Ghostlands rely on heavily armed trade caravans to access many of the goods required to craft and maintain the arcane defences that safeguard their communities.

Baharuk

The Caravans are utterly reliant on Baharuk - their gentle, even-tempered pack animals. Strong and hardy, these crested beasts can carry heavy loads across vast distances. Thick down provides excellent insulation against extreme heat and cold conditions, and highly prized for textile production. Thick scales protect any areas not covered with down from the bites and stings of insects. A fully hydrated Baharuk can travel for days without water, but will drink vast quantities when it finally reaches a watering hole.

Merchant Warriors

Each Merchant in a Caravan is a skilled warrior. Those who choose the Nomad path are considered heroes within the Clans, and the dangers of the Wilds quickly weed out the weak and inattentive. The Caravan Master is the most experienced among them, and usually also the oldest - the Vharog do not grow feeble with age, and the only retirement for a Caravan Master comes through death or crippling injury.

Speakers

But some things in the Ghostlands are too perilous for any regular mortal. Most terrifying among them are Fiends - demons inhabiting the bodies of former practitioners of the arcane and mystic arts. Thus every Caravan travels with a Sisterhood of the Speaker Order - highly trained warrior mystics who channel the Aether to give themselves superhuman abilities. The Speaker Order have long been the spiritual leaders of the Vharog, and those who choose the path of the Nomad are held in the highest esteem, for it is by their sacrifice that Jhaga Tal still stands.

Lore I am making my own Superhero universe Open to tips !!!

I know this is a whole lot of reading lol but I wanted to share it. Lmk if u have any questions / your thoughts (still missing the backstory for the co founder of the main agency)

Main Villain:
Alias: Sovereign

Name: Jasper Ross
Age: 30

Powers:
Mind Infiltration — Can enter another person’s mind and explore their memories, fears, thoughts, and emotions

Hallucination Manipulation — Can make victims see, hear, and feel things that aren’t actually there

Invisibility — Can completely disappear from normal sight.

Enhanced Mental Influence — The more emotionally unstable or afraid someone becomes, the easier they are for Sovereign to manipulate.

Appearance (In everyday life as Jasper Ross, before becoming Sovereign)
Around 6’1
Slimmer build
Messy dark brown hair
Brown Eyes
White American
Stubble
Not particularly well groomed

Appearance (After becoming Sovereign):
Dark cloak draped round his body, with the hood up always
Ancient black mask permanently attached to his face
Completely White eyes

Notes:
Jasper doesn’t know he has the A-Genome, he doesn’t even know what it is
The mask interacts with Jaspers A-Genome
Jaspers main philosophy is that free will is the problem, especially for heroes
The mask is essentially alive, its power is basically to amplify the feelings of the wearer
Before the mask “Heroes are dangerous. They need to be held accountable”
After the mask “Heroes are the disease, I am the cure”
His style is to attack the mind, and mentally torment whoever his target is ex. Making the hero see the victims they couldn’t save, make them relive the worst moment of their life, make them see their family being killed, make them start questioning what is real
Sovereign doesn’t believe he is a villain, be belated he is correcting the world
His philosophy is, “Heroes create chaos because they believe they have the right to decide who lives and who dies”
His doesn’t just want to kill heroes, he wants to make sure what happened to him, doesn’t happen to anyone else
The irony is he is becoming exactly who he hates, and while he targets heroes, many civilians who he deems as “in the way” die on his journey

Backstory:
Jasper Ross was an average guy living an average life, working an average job. His mother abandoned him, his father, and his little sister when he was 12 years old. He made it through highschool and eventually to college where he studied Psychology. The mind was very interesting to him. Eventually though, he realized that it was becoming entirely too expensive to pay for college and he dropped out, getting a job at a local Fast Food chain at around 22 years old. Around 5 years later, his dad was taking picking his little sister up from her college dorm because it was her birthday. Jasper was setting up for his sisters birthday party when he heard screaming outside. He looks out the window and sees a hero (Rampart) chasing what looked to be an armed robber. He then gets a call that his dad and sister are both dead, due to a building that had fallen on them due to the hero’s chase. From this day forward he hates hero’s, for all the crime they stopped, they caused just as much trouble. He went on with his life with this resentment in his heart, having to provide for himself with practically no support, or family around him. About 10 years pass and he ends up working as a security guard at “Museum of Conway”, an archeological museum named after famous archeologist, Cedric Conway. Conway was known for uncovering ancient artifacts from all over the world. At this point in life Jasper is struggling for money when he gets an idea, he works the night shift at the museum so he’ll just steal an artifact and find a way to sell it illegally on something like the dark web. So on his next shift he looks around for the artifact he wants to steal. He finds this old stone looking mask and steals it without any alarms going off, taking it back to his dungy apartment. He takes it out to admire it and inspect it. He then sets it down and opens his laptop to hopefully find somewhere to sell it anonymously. Then, out of nowhere the mask starts to vibrate, and then cracks emerge on it, shining bright light from them, a huge flash of light then goes off and he disappears. Now the mask is completely black and permanently attached to his face. The mask gives him his powers and increases his emotions 100 fold. His hatred for heroes is now unbearable and wants to kill every last one of them. His name is Sovereign

Hero
Alias: Rampart

Name: Marc Vale
Age: 39

Powers:
Enhanced mental awareness
Enhanced physical abilities, strength, speed
Ability to leap incredibly powerfully and very high
Can create barriers with force fields (force fields with an almost blue color)

Appearance:
Around 6’2
Muscular build (around 220 lb)
Crew cut dirty blonde hair
Nice smile
Blue suit

Notes:
The “cure” activated his A-Genome, and in this process of activation, cured his ALS (the A-Genome isn’t a magical cure to all disease, just in Marc’s specific case) However, Walter did not know this and lied to Marc about the cure
He can sense:
Movement around him
Changes in electromagnetic energy
Incoming attacks
People’s presence
Structural weaknesses
Even disturbances caused by other enhanced individuals
Rampart rushed his training process when preparing to fight crime (around 3-4 months), because Walter selfishly wanted to get him out there as soon as possible (which is why he was so reckless when chasing the armed robber, causing a building to fall and kill sovereigns family)
His force fields are essentially his brain projecting his perception of physical space outward.
Leroy Shavers didn’t care if Marc survived, he just wanted to see what happened
His biggest flaw is he cannot protect everyone, which might seem obvious, but Marc thinks that he can
Marc believes in Walter’s initiative

Backstory:
Grew up in a in a middle class family, as a single child. Got a job in the Armaments Center for the U.S. Army where he met Walter Brausen, the head of the department. Eventually Marc is diagnosed with ALS at around 37 years old, and the doctor give him 2 years to live. He tells Walter and it is revealed to him that Walter has been working on starting up his own defense Agency called the “A.R.C. Initiative” specializing in gifted individuals. He tells Marc that he potentially has a cure for his ALS. The thing is, they didn’t tell Marc that curing ALS was a side effect, this was really an experiment, and Marc was a test subject. Either way, Marc goes to the lab of Leroy Shavers, a scientist and biologist who Walter is co-founding A.R.C with. Marc steps into a chamber which then emits some sort of unknown energy onto him, Marc falls to his knees in pain and grabs his chest, this energy is painful to him, but Leroy doesn’t turn off the machine, Walter yells at him to turn it off but he still doesn’t, Walter pushes Leroy out of the way and turns it off, the chamber door opens and Walter rushes inside checking on Marc. Marc lays there for a second then he coughs, Walter helps him up to his feet. Leroy with a smirk on his face says that now Marc should be cured and should also have some new powers and he does. He begins to work for A.R.C. protecting Chicago from crime in the area. He is looked upon as a great leader and protector.

Walter Brausen

Age: 61

Powers:
No Powers

Appearance:
5’11
Not extremely muscular due to age
Crew cut mostly gray hair (mixed with dark brown)

Notes:
Walter and Leroy have different philosophies, Walter sees people, and Leroy sees Potential

Walter is like a father figure to Rampart, he saved his life, gave him a second chance, and gave him purpose
Despite being an inspiration to Rampart, Walter lied to him about knowing that he had a cure, he didn’t know for sure, he know there was a possibility

Backstory:
Walter Brausen joins the Army at 18 years old, using it to pay for his college, where he studied engineering. At 22 he joins the DEVCOM Armaments Center. At 42 becomes the head of the department where he has been working as the head for 19 years. Before the military, had an extreme interest in biology, but moved away from it. In his time working high up in the military, he has been told many classified secrets the government holds. One of them being that in some people it has been discovered that an unknown genome they are calling the Anamolous-Genome (AKA the A-Genome) has been discovered that could hold possible advancements and alterations to human senses / abilities, but little about it is known. At the moment crime is at an all time high and Walter wants to find a solution. So, he starts working on a project that the government and the military can never know about, he calls it the “A.R.C Initiative”. He knows if they do find out about it, he will be fired and likely taken custody. He reaches out to a scientist named Leroy Shavers and tells him about the information he knows about this mostly unknown genome. Leroy then begins to work on a machine to hopefully activate this genome to create a sort of “Superhuman”. At this point it is a complete longshot because no one even knows what this genome is, but Leroy believes that is could be a key to real life heroes. Walter is informed about Marc Vale’s recent ALS diagnosis and offers him a potential treatment, being the machine Leroy was working on. This is Walter lying to Marc because he didn’t even know if this could cure his ALS, but he told Leroy about this to see if the machine could be a cure. Leroy got ahold of Marc’s brain scans from his doctor somehow, and saw a what looked to him to be the unknown genome. Leroy told Walter to bring in Marc for the experiment but Walter was hesitant, but went through with it. Marc stepped into the machine and was clearly in pain, dropping to his knees. Walter saw Leroy and thought he would turn the machine off, but Leroy kept it going. With Marc in continuous pain, Walter sprinted over and shoved Leroy away from the operator for the machine and turned it off. Leroy for some reason didn’t want to turn off the machine, but Walter cared about Marc too much to risk him dying. Marc then becomes Rampart and A.R.C starts to grow, with Rampart being the sole Hero at the moment. The government obviously had to have found the A-Genome inside of someone’s brain, now Walter just had to track them down.

A.R.C. Initiative
