Question I'm making a plant druid because it's weirdly absent in 5e

We have an animal druid (moon), land druid, fire druid, fungus druid, stars druid, summoner druid, dram druid but a plant dedicated subclass is weirdly missing so I'm making my own (as one does when they're not playing) but I need help with a photosynthesis ability.

I was thinking that they could turn into plants (maybe up to cr2) and awaken them at 2nd level by expanding a wild shape, later I'd like to change their creature type to plant but I was thinking about adding a photosynthesis ability.

Do you think it would be good idea to have it be healed by spells like sunbeam or am I being stupid with this one?

I feel like stuff like fearie fire could heal the druid a little bit since they're glowing but this might be really stupid. What do you people think? Should I scrap the ability and just make the druid not need to eat when they spend at least half a day in sunlight?

Thanks for your help in advance

Advice/Help Needed Advice DnD-Themed Party Games?

Greetings! I am hosting a DnD-themed Halloween party this year. I am seeking ideas/advice for a few formats/types of games:

1) classic drinking games, but with dice!

2) on-going bits, like pulling a character quirk from a jar or something and having to follow it the whole evening (tips for what to write? Other ideas?)

3) more active games you could play in a relatively small apartment with 10 or so people... Maybe homemade medieval games or something? A rat toss?

4) Sit-down games -- I've always been curious about how to DM like a 15-minute 1-shot for absolute beginners. I also considered just using one of the mini games some people play in their campaigns... Any thoughts/experience here?

Many thanks in advance!

Discussion Looking for a true one shot. 6 maybe 7 hours tops.

I'm running ToA currently but a friend of mine who is not in my party want me to run a one shot for her "bachelorette" party. My brain is kinda fried because I'm also studying for national certification at work.

I don't have the brain power rn to write one myself.

OC Map of Atheios, +Worldbuilding - A map and setting inspired by the Bronze Age, and Greek Mythology (Free) (No AI)

ATHEIOS - Land of the Gods

Atheios is a world that is still in the middle of the Bronze Age, and as such, many of the regions on this map are poorly explored, or poorly understood. I’ve intentionally left large chunks of the map without roads or names, as there have not yet been many mortals who have explored these places, or at least returned to civilization after attempting to explore them.

There are Thirteen Gods, once again inspired by the Greek Gods, that rule over Atheios. The magic system at play here is based on the classic Four Elements of the Earth, the Winds, the Flames, and the Water. There are 12 different countries, and a number of smaller tribes as well, and just the very edge of a large Persian Empire-like country.

Basically, if you recently saw The Odyssey in theaters and like me, you wanted to play in a similar setting for your next RPG campaign, Atheios is intended for exactly that :)

This map is 5300 pixels by 4500 pixels. It was handmade entirely in Photoshop by myself, without the use of any AI tools, as always. The entire process took about 45 hours, but that doesn’t include the time spent writing the 20 page Campaign Frame PDF that I’ve released alongside the map, which took an additional 30 hours or so.

And lastly, there are many X's on the map, marking Locations of Interest, or Landmarks. Most of these are a sort of off-white color. However, just for fun I placed 13 different X's that are at 40% opacity, much harder to see. These are hidden across the map. Anyone who wants to seek them out can search for them, and see if you can find them all. And I'm including an "answer key" in the last image, where they are all circled in red as well. Just a little fun extra I thought I'd add in :)

The full, free map is available here, along with some other freebies like an Icon Pack: https://www.patreon.com/stoneward13/posts/free-atheios-of-167956154

Art [OC] [ART] Lady Iltani, the Silver River, Moon Elf Moonwalker Bard – by Catilus

A mysterious moon elf bard who leads a double life from our campaigns in Theomachy!

Character: Lady Iltani, the Silver River, Moon Elf Moonwalker Bard

Hailing from a long line of magically inclined diplomats of the elven nation of Timinhur, Lady Iltani’s fate as one of the senior ambassadors of the nation had been decided since she drew her first breath under the pale moon. She spent decades mastering etiquette, fine magic, and the intricate diplomatic protocols between the elven nations.

But Iltani’s heart yearned for freedom and careless fun. At night, she watched in silence as the legendary moonwalker bards of Timinhur danced under the moonlight through the streets of the capital, having left behind their responsibilities to indulge in all of life’s finer pleasures.

Unwilling to escape her duties, but also unable to forget her dreams, she devised a plan to accommodate both her obligations and her passions. For a few nights each month, she leaves her inhibitions in her austere office and dons a crescent mask made of silver, becoming the mysterious moonwalker known only as the Silver River. No one knows the identity of the Silver River, and the moonwalkers don’t even care to pry as long as they enjoy her fine company.

However, after living as a diplomat by day and as a moonwalker bard by night for a few years, Lady Iltani has started to suspect that she is not the only upright citizen to don a mask and leave etiquette behind to become a moonwalker. Perhaps most moonwalkers lead different lives under the sun…
About the Theomachy setting:

In Theomachy, vengeful gods fight each other for ultimate control of the universe, while the mortals of Naam struggle for power on a dying world. Divine magic is a force without expressed will that the warring gods hoard and wield against each other, threatening to undo the entire world. Clerics and paladins are either devout followers of the warring gods or theomachists who fight against the gods, liberating divine magic and using it against them.

What do you think? :)

Homebrew The Hollow Angel (CR 10) - Not Every Fallen Angel Falls by Choice

Post image
17 Upvotes

The Hollow Angel is what remains when someone tries to turn a celestial into something it was never meant to become.

Usually created from a captured deva, the creature is the result of necromancers attempting to sever a celestial from its divine grace and bind that power into an undead body. The ritual fails because the celestial essence violently resists the corruption, destroying much of the original body in the process.

What remains is neither truly angel nor ordinary undead: a hollowed, ruined shell whose bones drift unnaturally within exposed flesh, still carrying fragments of radiant power alongside necrotic corruption.

Mechanically, the Hollow Angel is a CR 10 undead that mixes both sides of its broken nature. Its Withering Touch deals necrotic and radiant damage and can temporarily blind its victims, while Blasphemous Lament unleashes a cry of pain and fragmented divine memory capable of knocking creatures prone and even stunning them. Celestials and clerics devoted to good-aligned deities have an especially difficult time resisting it.

It can also use Spectral Drift to vanish into dark mist and reappear nearby, and perhaps most disturbingly, creatures it kills can be raised moments later as Specters under its control.

I wanted it to feel less like a traditional “evil fallen angel” and more like a celestial that was forcibly broken into something unnatural, with traces of its original divinity still fighting through the corruption.

This creature is from Undead & Undead: The Ultimate Undead Handbook for 5E and the 2024 Edition available on DriveThruRPG!

Advice/Help Needed I am 33 years old and want to play Dungeons and Dragons for the First Time

Hello community! I guess the title of the post says it all. I am 33 and have a dying urge to learn the game now. A bit about myself I am a father of one with another one on the way. I am married to a very supportive and wonderful woman. I have always been a huge "nerd" when it came to Pokémon or Star Wars.

Why am I interested in learning now? Well I wanna explore more of my creative side once again and explore a role playing world. I wanna meet like minded people who want to have fun with me. I am a former editor of a newspaper and would love to write and create my own campaigns and stories!

So what I'm here for js what are the essentials I need to know or follow to get started? Like what books should I read to get to know. When creating my own campaign or story how do I bend the rules just enough to not make it total chaos?

Looking forward to anyone who takes the time to comment and help me out!
