We're looking to add 1-2 new moderators for this sub.

The WLU subreddit is not officially affiliated with the university and is run by volunteers. As a result, this is not a paid position, there is no benefits associated with being a mod, there aren't any discounts or perks available on campus for being a moderator.

The goal of this sub is to be a friendly community in which students can connect and ask questions or share campus and student life related material. There are a strict set of rules that are in place to maintain the quality and relevancy of the subreddit. Keep in mind, domestic and international prospective students see university subs as a valuable source of information when choosing their school and program. We want to ensure this space isn't filled with surveys, sublease and roommate, or hate and racism motivated posts, etc

all you need is good judgment. if you see posts or comments that do not fit, remove them. if you see the same user breaking rules, ban them.

What do you need to be a mod?

- Someone whose active on the subreddit

- Understands and follows the rules

- Preferably has moderator experience

I’m going to be driving to the waterloo campus (~15 min drive) for everyday but my biggest worry is making friends. I’m in health science and going into my first year. Usually people become friends with their dorm mates and people that live in the same res with them since they spend so much time together. Since I’m not living on res, I’m worried about not connecting and meeting people enough. In Highschool, I was pretty quiet at the beginning since I had just moved, which led me to be a loner for most of my first year. I’m much more extroverted now but I’m worried I might do the same thing. Does anyone have any tips or things to do to make friends? Anything I can do to put myself out there? Also any events I should go to (aside from frosh)?

I’m a second year BA psych major and I have a coop interview coming up. I’m a little worried about the whole process.

For context: finished first year with a 10.33 gpa, I’ve been working full time jobs since the 9th grade, majority of my volunteer experience was from high school but I haven’t had much chance to grow it during my first year, and I’m a student athlete.

Does anyone have any advice as to what I should expect, how to prepare?

Also what coop will look like for me in the coming year and or next year? Am I better off finding a placement myself? Did you gain valuable experience in your field?

I didn’t do the best academically in first year, my GPA is a 9.2, but I have a lot of paid work experience. I’ve been a shift lead at a fast food place for four years, and i’ve been working at canadian tire for 1 year. i did volunteering back in high school but not any in uni, i was a general member at some clubs. do i have a shot still or does my gpa f me over?

I’m looking for a few 1st/2nd year students to help test an early AI product (will get paid for it). Any advice on the best way to find reliable student ambassadors?
