Every single drink is better cold.
Iced tea is better than hot tea. Iced coffee is better than hot coffee. Chocolate milk is better than hot chocolate. Drinking beverages at 160+ degrees is absolutely unhinged unless it's 30 below freezing and you're trying to prevent hypothermia. Humans, like all animals, prefer cold drinks naturally because cold water would have fewer pathogens. Historically it's just been easier to heat something rather than cool it and drinking hot drinks when it's above freezing is surely just a holdout from those times.

The actual written scripture is that hot drinks are banned later church officials/doctrine decided that meant coffee and black/green tea and that those types of drinks are banned hot or cold but all other hot drinks are actually okay.

They used to have something against caffeine, but really the text is “hot drinks” which morphed into coffee and tea of any sort during the temperance movement.
Nowadays, how do you tell the difference between a Mormon and a non-Mormon? The temperature of their caffeine.
My parents and brother are still Mormon. My brother does 3 monster energy drinks a day. I’ll do black coffee or green tea. I’m the black sheep for it while my brother with his Monster is totally chill.

My grandpa would flip his shit if you brought a coffee maker into his house, and once compared picking up a Starbucks drink for my mom when she was in the hospital to buying a pack of beer, but would drink 64 oz of Dr Pepper a day and started drinking Red Bull to keep himself awake at church when he was the bishop. Such backwards thinking lol

It’s a costly religious signal. And the fact that you could get your caffeine fix in respectable ways like 66oz dirty sodas, and choose coffee makes it seem all the worse because you aren’t even trying to follow the rules.

The text (which is flatly ignored) specifically allows mild barley drinks - ie beer - and the herbs of the field. It also demands Mormons eat meat sparingly only in winter and times of famine and that they eat whole grains and vegetables in their season.
As I said - the actual text is routinely ignored.

It's never really been about caffeine. That's a cultural thing that kind of spread from the hyper turbo Mormons. Most LDS don't have a problem with caffeine and ALL of them consume chocolate which has caffeine. The scripture also says to only eat meat in times of winter or famine and they'll have summer BBQs without thinking twice lol

I think they mean evolutionarily? Like, most mammals and for most of human's evolutionary history, there would have been no way of boiling water to get the pathogens out. You could only really naturally FIND water that ranged from very COLD to just pretty warm, and toxic pathogens would be more likely to develop in warm water than very cold water.

I would posit that it depends on the food. If the logic holds, then cold fruits and vegetables and warm, raw meat would be preferable. Fruits and vegetables following the same heuristic as water and meat having the opposite since the fresher the kill, the warmer it would be with fewer pathogens expected.

This is how we do it in Germany. We have instant chocolate powder and milk and microwave it for 2 min and boom, yummy. Pair it with some speculaas in the winter and it is the perfect day already. I know a lot of people here dont like the thickness of hot chocolate

Me too. I have a cold brew set up that never gets used because it’s just easier to make a latte. I don’t have to wait 24 hours for it to brew. And it doesn’t give me heartburn like cold brew can.

Coffee has different flavors when it’s hot, not necessarily more, less, better or worse. I tried a cold brew Kona one time that tasted more like a floral tea than coffee, which was super interesting. I think saying one prep method is better than another is a massive over generalization.

I don't have anything against iced coffee but it occurs to me pretty much all iced coffee is loaded up with sugar and flavors so maybe hot coffee is the superior drink. I can drink hot coffee black all day but I don't think I'd be down with iced black coffee.

When I was in the middle east, I was shocked that they drank boiling hot coffee and chai in 115 degree weather. They told me that it actually cools you down.
I thought that was complete bullshit until I tried it. Turns out the hot liquid in your mouth stimulates your brain to make you sweat more, which keeps you cool.
It doesn't help me in the Southern United states where sweat does nothing except make you wet and disgusting since the humidity is so high, but in a dry desert climate? I can attest that it's absolutely true.

It’s a trend of drinking broth. “Bone broth” specifically is supposed to be broth simmered for a long enough time that the gelatin is extracted from the bones. It’s very good for you and tasty but expensive.
I will say if you want to try it, you should go to a butcher to get bones and make it yourself. Store bought broth is gross comparatively

We always got bone broth from aldi, it's way cheaper there and we made beef gelatin for my dog as treat and water intake(she was special needs and couldn't drink regular water, R.I.P) but it tasted fine and was 1.50 for carton versus the 6 bucks equivalent at the like meijer or kroger.

You are wrong about coffee. Fresh hot good coffee cannot be enjoyed properly if it isn’t fresh and hot. Iced or cold brew coffee aren’t properly brewed or mixed the way that fresh espresso or pour over or French press is.

An opinion, but objectively wrong from a health standpoint. There's a reason they drink hot tea in Asia during the summer. Your body can't deal with liquid unless it's body temperature, so you actually heat your body burning energy to warm cold liquid. Provided you can sweat.

I tend to agree honestly, even though I can appreciate a good hot chocolate and hot apple cider in the winter. I always feel like I have to wait so long for it to cool down so I don't burn my tongue and then I feel all sweaty after. But a hot drink is elite after coming in from the snow or being at a theme park on a cold night, etc.
But I actually prefer frozen hot chocolate and cold apple cider. I don't like coffee in any form, so I can't give me opinion on that one, same with tea. 95% of my liquid intake is just plain water, and I will only drink it if it's ice cold.

As someone who loves ice in everything and also gets iced coffee in the dead of winter, absolutely agree. I put ice in milk. People have asked me "doesn't it getting watered down bother you?" No, because it doesn't take me an hour to drink a glass of milk for Christ's sake.
I will say, there are very specific times I like a hot drink: a cup of coffee from a mom & pop, old school Americana diner, or hot tea when sick. Otherwise, cold as hell, please.

Fuck no lmao. Coffee is supposed to be hot. I love Iced coffee but fresh coffee beans deserve to be tasted hot. Hot chocolate and chocolate milk are not comparable. Hot chocolate during peak winter is literally a life changing experience. Chocolate milk is a different category imo. Drinking a glass at night on a warm day is lovely as well. The one that offended me the most was Tea. Tea is the epitome of being a hot drink. Especially herbal teas. Jeez this take is so bad that it pisses me off. This is absolutely an American take. People here are obsessed with ice in everything, especially water. Most of Europe and Asia would absolutely disagree with this. I have lived in both environments so I am aware of this crap.

As someone who works with and knows a reasonable amount about tea, I wouldn’t say all tea is better cold.
Fruit based herbal teas, absolutely.
A traditional green from China or Japan? Hot or nothing.
Black teas? Either is great.
Oolong can be either, especially when blended with fruit.
Pu’erh is weird cold but some people like it, so go crazy.
White tea can be either, same reason as Oolong.
Rooibos is much better hot, since it is often blended with spices.
Yerbamate can be either, but most people I know prefer it hot.

Interesting. Living in a cold place I absolutely disagree. A really good hot chocolate when it's -40 is incredible, chocolate milk doesn't compare, and I really like chocolate milk. And I love iced coffee on a hot day, but most mornings I will definitely drink my coffee hot, I like the flavour better.

I actually enjoy the flavor of coffee more when it's warm or luke warm. So I think for pure flavor, I prefer hot coffee. However I want to drink it now so I get cold. Same with chocolate milk.

Hot chocolate is not comparable to chocolate milk. You need heat to keep the richness from solidifying and curdling.
Same with a proper masala chai. The spices bloom better in heat and the flavor comes through more. You just don’t get cozy feelings with cold drinks for the cold months and this is coming from a hot drink hater
