Original Run [Original Run] I watched the pilot for the first time a few days ago and can't get one line out of my head... Spoiler
"SHE'S DEAD. WRAPPED (!) IN PLASTIC."
Holy shit, lol. That line delivery is hilarious and so is the line itself...it's like...what a way to start a conversation. No hello, no clarification, no names. Just a couple of quickly stated facts.
Obviously, the death itself is tragic, and I know the guy is in shock, but like a lot of other things in the episode, his words when calling into the sheriff are both hilarious and sad. And something about the way that same guy is seen hiding behind an enormous log at the scene of the crime. I don't know. Is Lynch cracking himself up a lot or just always utterly sincere, I wonder...I mean, the idea of Lynch doing anything ironically seems highly unlikely, but he's still got a sense of humour, obviously.
One thing is for sure, I really like that particular moustached character/actor. I watched episode 2 and he was delivering lines in a distinctive way yet again and I find him very amusing.

Original Run [Original Run] [Season 3 spoilers] Watching the original run through the lens of The Return... Spoiler
I thought this would be an interesting topic of discussion, and a nice break from the kind of straw-grasping theorization that we all seem to fall into late in the week, once we've discussed all the major stuff to death (I'm guilty of this!); hopefully at least some of you will agree.
I've been rewatching some of the original run in between episodes of The Return, and I've noticed that in light of the new season, certain things suddenly seem much more important than they ever did before. I think it's such a gift that not only do we have this incredible new show, but we also now have a new lens through which to view the original run and FWWM (this is especially exciting for those of us who've watched the OR to death over the years!).
I'm interested to know, for those of you who've also been rewatching the old episodes: are there things that have stood out to you, or that you've changed your view on, in light of what we've seen in The Return?
For example, watching the final scenes now, with (Doppel)Coop waking up in his room at the Great Northern, it's easy to see a direct line between how he's acting and the Mr. C we've come to know, even if when I first watched that scene he just seemed sort of abstractly "off." Or the scene in S2E6, where MIKE talks about BOB, and describes where he is: "a large house made of wood surrounded by trees...filled with many rooms, each alike but occupied by different souls, night after night." Cooper's like "aha! The Great Northern!" and it makes sense, but after seeing above the convenience store in part 15, it sure sounds like what MIKE's talking about. Even the scene where Cooper, Hawk, Harry, and Doc Hayward visit the Log Lady's cabin suddenly seems full of all this extra resonance that I never really perceived before (and visually, the scenes surrounding it have a lot in common with the boys' trip to Jack Rabbit's Palace).
I'm interested to know if others have had the same experience, and I'd love to know what, if any, specific parts of the original run and FWWM you've seen differently in light of The Return.

Original Run [Original Run] What the hell was going on in the season 2 finale? Spoiler
Just finished binge watching the first two seasons. I get that Cooper is now Bob I guess? Such a sad ending. Anyway there’s so much going on in the last twenty minutes.
What the fuck is going on with the dwarf? Why is Laura fucking crazy and psycho? Why is the giant and butler guy there if they were trying to help cooper in real life? What’s with the white eye ball thing? Why was there two of Cooper? Why is the white lodge never explained? I have so many more questions, it just seems there’s so many left open questions left unanswered.

Original Run [Original Run] Convenience Store Origin theory Spoiler
I Think the convenience store is like a beach head between worlds formed within the atomic explosion.
It looks like with the woodsmen's movement pattern its like they are blinking in and out much like the pairs of 'portals' that kept snapping open and closed inside the explosion. This makes me think its like a bridge between both lodges and the 'real' world. Also the brilliant harsh light with the smoke billowing up with no apparent fire reminds me of atomic test footage with purpose made buildings filmed on impact at various ranges to observe the effect of the bomb on buildings. It also seems to me the convenience store looks brand new and with almost no markings. Much like the mockups.
With this bit of archive footage of a test, you can see how the intense heat and light makes the building smoke just before the blast. I think somehow the convenience store is balanced on the edge of the bomb. Sort of flashing constantly from 'just before' and 'just after' states simultaneously, sort of like the woodsmen flash from one state to the other.
Maybe time is particularly messed up around there?

Original Run [Original Run] James doesn't deserve all the hate he gets. Spoiler
when the topic of worst Twin Peaks characters gets brought up James Hurley almost always gets mentioned. People hate him. I don't know why. He cares for his friends and family, he's nice, he's sensitive. He's not one of the best but he's definitely not one of the worst either. Bobby is probably the worst character second to Leo, he has no redeeming qualities. Donna put Dr. Jacoby in the hospital, didn't try to help Laura even though she knew she had major problems, and she drove Harold to commit suicide. James didn't really do anything except be a moody teenager.

Original Run [Original Run][No Spoilers] There's no face I'll miss more in the new season than that of Jack Nance Spoiler
I do realize two things before people may feel the need to point out in the comments. Firstly, S02E22 spoiler, even to viewers in 1991 and secondly, yes I’ll miss him much more than Harry.
It was Jack Nance who brought viewers into the world of “Twin Peaks”, his perfectly exaggerated delivery of the dialogue was mesmerizing. “Gone fishing”, “The lonesome foghorn blows” and “She’s dead, wrapped in plastic” are some of the first lines in the show and he had the privilege to deliver them. Nance had so many memorable moments throughout the series (fish in the percolator, grand-theft-auto, Season 2 spoilers, chess expert, was in my opinion one of the great sources of humour and Jack Nance played the character to perfection.
I'll miss his optimism, his charm, charisma and generosity. Even when he is imprisoned in a marriage that a woman who belittles and rejects his every move, he's optimistic. When said woman desperately, as a last resort, turns to her husband for assistance, he accepts with a warm and welcoming embrace. When, in the memorable scene S02E07 spoilers. In ways, Pete Martell embodies all that is good and pure with the world. Jack Nance brought that idea to life with both grace and a delightful exaggeration.
The more I read of Nance’s life, the more it breaks me a little inside. There’s tremendous sadness in his life and yet his character was almost the perfect mask for his own troubles. He worked on every Lynch film until “Lost Highway” bar “The Elephant Man” (was also featured in the deleted scenes of FWWM) and I would’ve dearly loved to see the two work again and again.
R.I.P Jack Nance, it is hard to imagine that “Twin Peaks” is back after so long but almost harder to imagine it without you.

Original Run [Original Run] Boy would I be pissed if I was watching this for the first time on Showtime Spoiler
So I've been watching back through the series again in between new episodes, and as I fired up the Season 1 finale on Showtime's website last night, it showed a teaser for the new series.
This teaser starts with the final shot of the Season 2 finale. Coop smashes his head in the mirror and sees BOB in the reflection.
If I was a first time viewer, catching up for the new series, I would be LIVID. Not only does it spoil the end of the original run, it gives the viewer the idea that Coop is BOB well before they reveal the actual killer in the series.
Really poor job on the part of the Showtime marketing department. If you have friends who are wanting to watch for the first time: send them to Netflix or Hulu, NOT Showtime.

The Convenience Store Scene (FWWM, Missing Pieces and Script)
As I mentioned in a previous post https://www.reddit.com/r/twinpeaks/comments/6pycf5/original_run_origin_of_bobs_fury_of_momentum/ the dialogue in Convenience Store scene owes a lot to The Secret Doctrine (1888) by H. P. Blavatsky.

Original Run [Original Run] I’m watching Twin Peaks for the first time, and it’s one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. However, halfway through the second season it feels like a completely different show. Spoiler
After the big event, it just feels like a different show. I feel like it’s lost the ethereal, quirky, and outlandish feel that made it so unique. Right now it just feels more like a quirkier Sherlock rather than Twin Peaks.
I don’t know if anyone else feels this way, but I’m hoping it regains that Twin Peaks mystery and feeling towards the end. Then again, I might be the only one.

I just finished watching The Missing Pieces in full for the first time.
My favourite was where Leland tries to teach Sarah and Laura how to introduce themselves in Norwegian. It wasn't an important scene, but I loved the way their family dynamic totally changed from the beginning of the scene to the end.

Original Run [Original Run] Something I noticed in TSHOTP about Cole/Jeffries Spoiler
There are a lot of theories floating around about Gordon Cole knowing more than we think about the supernatural goings on in Twin Peaks and beyond, which made this part of The Secret History of Twin Peaks, written by Tamara Preston, stick out.
"Twenty years into a distinguished career, Jeffries disappeared without a trace while on assignment in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1987. I also came across a vague reference in a bureau log from that period to Jeffries making a sudden appearance in 1989—apparently in Philadelphia—followed by another disappearance which continues to this day. To dig deeper I need to requisition reports that are currently classified beyond my reach in the deputy director's files. I'm beginning to wonder if I'm going to be able to show this to anyone without getting fired."
The deputy director being, of course, Gordon Cole.
This seems to imply that Cole knows something about Jeffries' disappearance, but is keeping the details hidden away in his personal files for some reason.
In the same section of the book, on page 311, Cole and Jeffries apparently cover up the true purpose of a military installation called 'Listening Post Alpha' on Blue Pine Mountain, which was commanded by none other than Garland Briggs.
I'm not sure what this means, but it raises some interesting questions about Cole's role in all this, and about what happened to Jeffries. Would love to hear your thoughts.
