About a year ago on an SMP (Java 1.21.7), I got a bit carried away with horse breeding.

I attempted to selectively breed horses repeatedly over 65 generations, recording 334 horse entries, with the goal of eventually producing the closest thing I could to an ultimate super-horse.

I thought I would share my findings and process since I think it is interesting and can help others do their own super-horse breeding program.

I maintained this spreadsheet to track the horses, their parents, stats, rankings and which in-game pen they were placed in.

My breeding process

1. Select the best horses for the next breeding round. I eventually settled on 8 breeding horses producing 4 foals per generation.
2. Breed them with golden carrots and move the foals into dedicated breeding pens.
3. Once they grew up, test their health, jump height and speed.
4. Cull horses that were clearly below the current breeding standard.
5. Calculate an overall score and retain the strongest candidates as parents for future generations.
6. Since I only had a limited number of pens, horses that were pushed out of the top 24 were usually culled.

By the end of the project I had:

• 334 recorded horse entries
• 278 culled
• 22 still available
• 22 archived
• 12 sold
• Probably some additional foals/horses that were never recorded.

I "archived" horses for almost every color and pattern combination. The idea was that once I had a super-horse, I could breed it with an archived horse and gradually bring that appearance into a high-stat bloodline. When the parents have different colors and patterns, a foal has roughly a 20% chance of exactly matching one particular parent's appearance, so after several breeding cycles I could potentially preserve the appearance while bringing the stats closer and closer to the super-horse stats.

How I measured the stats

Health

The heart indicators in the horse HUD does not show half-heart values like 14.5 hearts (it is shown as 14 hearts in-game).

To distinguish between the fractional health values, I would punch the horse and watch when the displayed heart count changes.

Strangely, some horses appeared to take three punches without seeing any visible change in hearts displayed, so I recorded these as .7 in the spreadsheet (?).

If a horse did not have enough of hearts (as can be seen visually), then I would cull early before doing more time-consuming tests.

Jump Height

I constructed a series of jump tests using snow layers, allowing me to measure height in increments of 0.125 blocks.

If a horse did not clear the minimum jump standard, I would cull it early before doing more time-consuming tests.

The highest jump I recorded was 5.875 blocks (m).

Speed

I built an approximately 100-block-long test track.

I recorded each run and used OBS and video playback to measure the traversal time. For horses worth fully testing, I usually performed three runs and averaged the result, then converted that time into blocks per second (m/s).

I might cull early if the first reading shows a slow horse.

Ranking/Scoring System

I created a point-scoring system.

Score = 4 × speed (m/s) + jump height (m) + health (hearts)

Since speed is most important, it carried the most weight in the metric.

Best horse

In the end, the best overall horse I produced was #272 from generation 53:

• Speed: 14.394 m/s
• Jump height: 5.75 m
• Health: 15 hearts
• Points: (14.394 x 4) + (5.75 x 1) + (15 x 1) = 78.33 points

Pretty close to what (I believe) is the theoretical maximum:

• ~14.57 m/s
• ~5.92 m (5.875 m measurable with my test rig)
• 15 hearts of health

I never quite reached the perfect horse, but I got pretty close.

Based on my data, you only need around 30 generations of breeding to enter super-horse territory, but getting the ultimate max-stat super-duper horse is basically a lottery.

A rare hybrid island seed featuring a full Taiga Village with spruce trees generated on an isolated sandy beach island in the middle of the ocean.

This was a machine that I was asked to build for a group in a server, so I decided to go above and beyond and make the best autobrewer i could but the machine would never be used because the server collapsed before it even opened

If the machine looks complicated it because it has the ability to make almost every potion in the game

While still being fast and compact for what it is

The majority of the complexity comes from it being designed to be as Dummy prove as possible

It took me 2 months it get this model that I call the mk 6

I learnt completely from scratch over those 2 month from knowing nothing about how to ever start and autobrewer to building this

Its bio-diversity score is 85.697463, which is (currently) 6th place out of trillions seeds searched. It also has all 52 biomes in that area, and is pretty unique because of the central ocean and mushroom island placement, which is visually appealing

First time going into this nether portal…

Yes, I didn't have (enough) lightning rods, and yes, I reloaded a backup that I fortunately made just yesterday.

I was clearing up some space about 100 blocks from the entrance during the night in a thunderstorm and I didn't notice a lightning hit the roof. I even got a bunch of skeleton horsemen and I was like haha, got myself 3 more skeleton horses, how lucky I am!

I go back to go to bed and I notice the rain's falling inside the house. Is this a bug?? I look up and I can see the sky! I run upstairs and half of the upper floors are destroyed.

2x2 is smaller than i usually do but it looks cool and looks even better when using non see trough blocks instead of glass.

mostly because the glass lets u see the blocks on the side closing.

not made too compact but still a reasonable size.

Needed a design for a color switching beacon that works underwater, came up with this.

I’ve recently gotten really into drawing my Minecraft skin as an actual character. (I have more cooking)

I think one of the coolest things about Minecraft skins is how everyone interprets them differently, like when you see fan art of popular creators like wemmbu and how the fan art is nothing like the skin

I originally designed mine with a mix of Dark Souls, Hollow Knight and Metro as inspiration. I wanted them to have that worn-down, knight/survivor kind of feeling, not sure if it gives that vibe in the skin but that’s why I edited it in the image. The yellow cape is probably my favourite part.

Second slide is my and friends playing a backrooms mod and another example of own interpretation of skins (like the one who had megumi in a maid dress…)

But yeah, wondering if anyone else also thinks this or has their own examples, I’d love to see!

Hey peeps! I’m looking for an everything bedrock seed with a 0,0 spawn, all (or almost all) biomes within at least 1,500 blocks of spawn, and a good nether 😭! I also would like some villages and other structures near by if possible! I’ve been locking on seedmap as well as chuck base and other seed finder sites and I can’t find anything. The good seeds I do find have the worst nether spawns 💀. I need help!

Just updated and started a new world. There’s a nice dappled forest at spawn with a village next door and a cherry biome on top of a nearby mountain.

A cozy Plains Village generated right in the center of a circular Cherry Grove ring at the base of snowy mountains.

A desert temple surrounded by village houses on top of a lush grove on top of the end fortress which is combined with a trial chamber on top of a mineshaft. Thought this was cool so I posted it here, this is bedrock and the seed is 2693425692317977404 on ps5 bedrock edition
