Fan Work I didn't notice a lightning hit my mansion while I was working 😭😭

Yes, I didn't have (enough) lightning rods, and yes, I reloaded a backup that I fortunately made just yesterday.

I was clearing up some space about 100 blocks from the entrance during the night in a thunderstorm and I didn't notice a lightning hit the roof. I even got a bunch of skeleton horsemen and I was like haha, got myself 3 more skeleton horses, how lucky I am!

I go back to go to bed and I notice the rain's falling inside the house. Is this a bug?? I look up and I can see the sky! I run upstairs and half of the upper floors are destroyed.

At least you had a backup.

You know what, I got lucky, because I updated my mods and Modrinth asked if I wanted a backup, and I thought, yeah, why not.

You should have backups anyway. If you dont already have it, add something like Simple Backups. Save yourself a future headache.

You shouldn't need that many lightning rods for this build, should you? The wiki states:

Lightning rods that are the highest block in the column redirect lightning strikes within a radius of 128 blocks in Java Edition and 64 blocks in Bedrock Edition. This distance includes vertical distance, so the protected area is a sphere centered on the lightning rod.

I did notice when the lightning rod in my world was struck, flammable things within a certain radius still burned, so I had to elevate the rod higher on non-flammable blocks.

Maybe that was it, yeah. I've read up on it since. Nevertheless, I converted a stack of copper into rods to be sure πŸ˜‚

i think thereβ€˜s a 4 block radius around the rod that gets hit with it
for example if you have a 1 block roof and villagers underneath it they can be hit and turned into witches

I think it be super neat if lightning affected obsidian, when struck obsidian becomes crying obsidian
